It's literally the same thing. If you aren't autistic and you have a job that nets you money, and you go out and talk to people every once in a while, you realize that owning DVDs or Blu-rays is a common thing that people like to talk about. on a computer watching a movie takes three clicks.

If you have a shelf with all the dvds, you have to go to the shelf, find the movie you want to watch, open the case, put the dvd in your computer/dvd-player and wait being told not to download cars and only then you can actually start watching the thing.

Computer files also don't take physical space so you don't have to make physical room for the dvd's. All media is in your hard drive and if you have an external hard drive, you can take your whole collection and watch any movie from your collection somewhere else.

Skip covers are generally only put on movies for their first pressing. If you're trying to buy them new and you don't see a slip it's a second pressing. For some movies it's a ridiculously small batch. Like the diamond edition of 101 Dalmatians

It's gotten to the point where I need to do this, I know. Just a few months ago I only had 50 or 60 movies. When you get past 100 movie it starts to become time to organize I agree. But as it stands I don't see what's wrong with having digipacks separate from standard releases. Having Disney separate from everything else makes sense too.

Why the fuck do you guys bother collecting DVD's/Blu-ray? Seriously, it's now $20 a pop, takes up a bunch of space, and is a major annoyance, especially if you're only interested in 1 or 2 scenes from a movie. And i'm honestly not autistic enough to give a shit about watching anything more than a 2-3Gb 1080p copy. When I get a 4k display, maybe then I'll start downloading the higher resolution copies. But from where I see it, there's absolutely zero positives to owning the physical media.

>>
>>62789576

as in you're rewatching a couple of favorite scenes from a movie you've seen several times, not saying watching a movie you've never seen before for just 1 scene, that would be...odd.

>>62789613

Not bait, honest opinion. I've seen movie quality in Blu-ray vs your garden variety 1080p torrent. Sure the Blu-ray is better. But I once had to tolerate watching movies with shitty VHS snow interfering with enjoying it. I admit it, after a certain point, I don't give a shit. Same garbage as the FLAC vs MP3 formats. At a certain point after 192kbps on MP3, I no longer care about the faithful recording of brown noise in the 30hz range. I'm perfectly content enjoying both at a level where the technology no longer significantly hampers playback.

>>62789640

Older releases and used market, sure, you can find it cheaper, but new releases are 20+
>>
>>62789526
Blu-ray=1080p video with 25mbps and high resolution surround audio

Downloaded BD-rip=compressed 720p mkv file with 3mbps bitrate and lossy 2-channel AAC audio

Don't get me wrong. I like the instant gratification from a 2-3gb mkv download, but there's nothing wrong in owning your favorites in glorious Blu-ray quality.
>>
>>62790026

>>
>>62790309

I mean I guess I get what you're saying, maybe it's the difference between an audiophile and a guy that listens to music while working/driving/exercising. They both appreciate music but the audiophile wants to "isolate" the experience where the others only requirements is that the audio is reasonably clear, free from distortion or censoring, and doesn't have god damn ads in it! (actually that's my requirement for music and TV)
>>
>>62790026
If you only use your PC monitor and use crappy 200w speakers or headphones then I agree, 720p yifyshit is for you.

If you're like me and have a 55inch tv and 1400w surround sound system and also have steady income to buy new releases ever week, then blu rays make sense. Get a better room with more space if you don't have the space for physical movies. And seriously consider for a moment how much better your favourite movies would look on a big ass tv in glorious surround sound.
>>
>>62790026
>new releases are 20+

I only pay $20 for Criterion. Nothing else. You are exaggerating.
>>
>>62790500

I have an HTPC with 8Tb of hard drive space hooked up to a 52" display. Sony receiver with a pair of floor standing speakers by Samsung, forgot the models on both. I don't know man, all I can say I've seen them on this screen. Ended up deciding I'd rather watch a movie 15 minutes after I had decided I wanted to see it than go out to WorstBuy and pay them for the privilege of having less space in my home.

And seriously man, DVD/Bluray cases are 2nd only to paperback books in most annoying shit to movie between houses.
