Aziz Ansari is a fucking retard
it's largely autobiographical, and so gives some great insight into the minds of a certain subset of 21st century young men. this is the subset that have severely stunted emotional growth in several aspects due to the sheltered existence of the modern american youth. notably, they have a worldview that is largely informed by pop culture rather than life experiences, and as such he runs into friction when those views are put to the test.
he is notably stunted when it comes to engendering and maintaining successful romantic relationships, communicating with his family, and making career decisions. he has no well-defined concept of civic duty, and his formulation of the state of the world around him is informed by hollywood and entertainment news.
you might not like it, but this is a pretty accurate depiction the modern american man. i have a lot of friends like this. they don't really know much beyond what they see on social media networks, and most of them don't really realize that there is something beyond that.
i think that this is probably some of ansari's best comedy, mostly because he has toned down the delivery of usual schtick in favor of a slice of life aesthetic. he adapts some of his more successful comedy routines into actual stories thoughout the series, and i think it works better a lot of the time.
it doesnt ask any hard questions, and it doesnt really give any good answers. its pretty funny, but easy to get annoyed at his immaturity, since it is the root of all of his problems and so it is hard to feel sympathetic unless you have been in a similar situation.
i'd say its worth a watch if you've seen most of the "greats" and are looking for an uncontroversial episodic to watch before you go to sleep or something
