good point. my brother is a MSTie so whenever he brings over some MST3K DVDs to watch we always skip over the host/puppet segments to get/back to the actual movie/riffing.
that said, IIRC the host/puppet/mad segments/storylines were only there to fill up time so each episode of the show could neatly fit into a 2/3 hour programming block, and now with this coming back via kickstarter and undoubtedly being offered on some sort of internet/streaming format as opposed to being on traditional tv, there's a chance that these host/puppet segments change up a bit and perhaps have more focus/purpose in the new show seeing as they're now an institution/hallmark of the show and literally not just filler to pad out the episode length.
