I didn't know the Pacific and the Western front were the entire war. There are other series which cover other aspects of the war.

Band of brothers except for the last episode skipped the pacific entirely and had very little in the way of showing horrors of war besides Buck dropping his helmet and giving a theater performance in the middle of a forest.
I juxtaposed the Pacific because in a lot of ways, it had BoB moments but it showed a lot of why those guys hated the fucking war. I felt like BoB made people want to sign up to fight bs and was told in a manner that was very spielberg.
I'm sorry, if your story is being told right, you should not want to fight in a war.

Yeah, at least for war miniseries. GK actually confronted the horrors of war but kept them in stride and even managed to have a black sense of humor about it, like "yeah a bunch of people just got killed due to sheer incompetence that was entirely preventable if one vector of communication hadn't failed but fuck it the sun's gonna rise tomorrow like it always does".
That and the wonderful quoteables that make up at least a quarter of every hour long episode.

if watch the jump on d-day and want to join up to be a paratrooper that's the fault of the audience, not the show.
i would much rather prefer combat be portrayed accurately and as realistic as possible rather than have "horrors of war" cliches shoved into the camera at every moment. i.e. the pacific and fury
