Nic Cage should have been in the Hobbit films.
Could have made them watchable.
Liam Neeson could have pulled of Boromir, but the rest are awful.
Jake Gyllenhaal might have worked, though Elijah is obviously the better pick.
David Bowie as Elrond could have been interesting. IDK, maybe not, but I don't think Hugo Weaving was anything spectacular.

David Bowie as Elrond would have been interesting, and Bruce Willis would have probably given a better performance as Boromir, but both would have hurt the movie overall just by being too big a name for the character they'd be playing. Frodo is the only character I always felt was kinda miscast, but I don't think Gyllenhaal would've been a huge improvement.
This made me realize it's pretty hard to imagine other castings for the LotR movies.

That's the part that most people don't realise, because of the films. There were actually 17 years between Bilbo leaving the Shire and Frodo leaving the Shire. When he leaves, he's nearly 50.
