Would any of these casting choices have been an improvement on who they ended up choosing?

Jake Gyllenhaal as Frodo
Sean Connery or Patrick Stewart as Gandalf
Nicolas Cage, Vin Diesel, Stuart Townsend or Russell Crowe as Aragorn
Helena Bonham Carter as Arwen
David Bowie as Elrond
Bruce Willis or Liam Neeson as Boromir

Nic Cage should have been in the Hobbit films.
Could have made them watchable.
>>
Liam Neeson could have pulled of Boromir, but the rest are awful.
>>
Jake Gyllenhaal might have worked, though Elijah is obviously the better pick.
David Bowie as Elrond could have been interesting. IDK, maybe not, but I don't think Hugo Weaving was anything spectacular.

Wasn't Frodo Baggins like 50 years old?
Elijah Wood is a good actor but he looked way to young and baby faced. Frodo was older than Samwise right?
>>
>>62741815
David Bowie as Elrond would have been interesting, and Bruce Willis would have probably given a better performance as Boromir, but both would have hurt the movie overall just by being too big a name for the character they'd be playing. Frodo is the only character I always felt was kinda miscast, but I don't think Gyllenhaal would've been a huge improvement.
>>
This made me realize it's pretty hard to imagine other castings for the LotR movies.
>>
>>62742118

Yes he was. Hobbits age slower than humans.

I think 50 to a Hobbit is like 30 to a Man.
>>
Gyllenhaal might have been a good frodo otherwise no to the rest.

What about Bale as Aragon?
Natalie Portman as Arwyn?
Tom Cruise as Legolas?
Daniel Day Lewis as Gandalf?
>>
>>62741815
>Christopher Lee was a major fan of the book, and read it once a year.
>He had also met J. R. R. Tolkien.
>He originally auditioned for Gandalf, but was judged too old.
Interesting

Yes Christopher Lee had wanted to be Gandalf for decades before the movie was made and I thought he'd be a better Gandalf too.

>We will never have a campy lighthearted The Hobbit movie starring Jack Black as Bilbo
>>

>Jake Gyllenhaal as Frodo
Absofuckinglutely not.

>Sean Connery as Gandalf
>YOU SHALL NOT PARSH!
No.

Patrick Stewart as Gandalf
No better or worse than McKellen.

>Nicolas Cage, Vin Diesel, Stuart Townsend or Russell Crowe as Aragorn
No to all.

>Helena Bonham Carter as Arwen
Fuck off.

>David Bowie as Elrond
Meh. No better or worse.

>Bruce Willis or Liam Neeson as Boromir
No to Bruce, Neeson would be no better or worse than Bean.
>>
>>62742193
He still looked too young regardless. I always pictured them looking like somewhat hairy middle aged men not fresh faced teenagers.
>>
>>62742258
by the time they get to the council of Elrond in Rivendell I believe he was 50.
>>
>>62742193
From memory hobbits die at around 130 and become adults at 33. The second part is definitely correct.
>>
>>62741815
>Nic Cage as Aragorn.

Daily reminder that Peter Jackson actually considered this.
>>
>>62742205
>Tom Cruise as Legolas
They'd have to CGI him to be taller, otherwise you'd have an elf smaller than a dwarf.
>Daniel Day Lewis as Gandalf
He would have lived as a wizard for a year to prepare for the role and learned actual spells.
>>
>>62742367

Bilbo was 111 and was considered to be uncommonly old. Not enough to make people weirded out, but enough that it was rare. He wasnt the oldest hobbit ever tho.
>>
>>62742450
>>Tom Cruise as Legolas
>They'd have to CGI him to be taller, otherwise you'd have an elf smaller than a dwarf.

I know you're trying to be funny, but realize that's exactly what they did with Jonathan Rhys Davies so he was shorter than most of the cast.

This is all it takes for a bucket and a chain to fall down a well into the depths of Moria. waking goblins that has the intent to rob and kill you.

The last meme you danked is the only one to protect you. How fucked are you /tv/?
>>
>>62742484
I don't think he was uncommonly old, just looked great for his age. It's like the equivalent of a seventy-year-old looking forty.
>>
>>62742511
Yes, I know, and they also CGI'd the hobbits to be shorter. I thought the irony made my joke funnier somehow. Guess not. Maybe it should've been something like
>they should have cast him as Frodo, wouldn't even need the CGI
Now I wish I'd have thought of that earlier...
>>
>>62741815
Yes to Gyllenhaal, David Bowie. Maybe to Bruce Willis

Nevermind, you're right. 17 years elapse between Bilbo leaving Hobbiton and Frodo leaving

The cast is GOAT.. but one casting is always accepted. and its Sean Connery as the other wizard

Frodo was born on 22 September 2968TA
Frodo turns 33 and comes of age on 22 September 3001TA
Bilbo turns 111 and leaves the Shire on the same day. 22 September 3001TA.
Gandalf returns to the shire and tells Frodo about the ring on 12 April 3018TA.

That's the part that most people don't realise, because of the films. There were actually 17 years between Bilbo leaving the Shire and Frodo leaving the Shire. When he leaves, he's nearly 50.

Liam Neeson could have worked. Helena would have been than Liv Tyler. Other than that, these are pretty awful casting choices.
