I'm surprised by how low it is. I mean it was fairly mediocre but that doesn't usually stop a hyped blockbuster from getting good reviews. Average rating of 6.4 is fairly accurate.
>>
>>62709551
One, which is probably why they didn't kill Blofeld.
>>
>>62709567
People expect a lot from a Bond film; if it's mediocre, it is more or less is a failure.
>>
>>62710376
Skyfall was only slightly above mediocre and that got almost perfect reviews.
>>
>>62709536
He has to. They've spent 4 movies setting up the Daniel Craig storyline.

Otherwise there would be no point in introducing Blofeld, having him barely be used in the movie, and then ending with Bond deciding not to kill him.

You've got a pretty low bar for quality if all you need for a film to be great is a storyline that is comprehensible and a villian that is given a motivation. The cinematography was the one part of Skyfall worth a damn. The rest is "competent" at best. They didn't shit the bed but it certainly wasn't good.

kind of puzzled by the spectre hate/general dislike, it's a much better film than most are giving it credit for. it's a genuinely moving film i think. others have touched on this, but the ending, where bond doesn't kill not by happenstance (as seems to be the case every other time) but by choice, and then goes to lea seydoux is very genuine and heartfelt. lea seydoux was easily the best part of this, the way she stares at craig is magnificent, the exchange of glances and looks (which are nearly brushed past by the relentless forward motion) become more and more touching the less they are focused on. when craig says "i would recognize you anywhere," it nearly brought a tear to my eyes.

of course, this also ignores the style of the film, which is not above coming off as silly and strange, like so many other, lesser films (see: nolan's filmography in general, and skyfall as well (which takes a lot from the nolan batman films i think)). the scene where waltz's character is introduced is both kind of chilling and hilarious at the same time. that every shot of him (until he looks directly at craig) is framed/lit so he is shrouded in shadow is amazing (flashes of early lang certainly, especially the two early mabuse films and some of the early american ones as well), and yet the idea of it is kind of silly. but this is where a lot of the pleasure is derived i think (similarly to some of the earlier bonds, which didn't place so much stock in seriousness or logic), from the shifting (and sometimes jarring swings) of tones, and the (often very funny) humor (quick note: ben whishaw is very good)

all this being said, i guess i can understand why this movie didn't please so many viewers; but i still think it's much better than many of the blockbusters of today (and most of the other bond films as well). and we can only hope for more bond women like seydoux and olga kurylenko (apologies to monica bellucci).
>>
>>62712899
They tried to false advertise into people thinking that.
But in the movie the old woman only has 5 minutes of scene.

He's not brand new in Casino Royale. He's just a new 00. Presumably MI6 agents promoted to 00 have already spent significant time on missions in other capacities. 00s are given broad authority on how to carry out a mission, so presumably you don't become one on your first day as a secret agent.
>>
>>62708774
Sony killed Spiderman and Bond.
>>
>>62713405
I like the theory of how 00 agents are promoted.

They're basically the loose cannons the other agencies don't want because they're way too dangerous to themselves and others.

So they only send 00 agents on borderline suicide missions because they don't give a shit about their own safety and the mission is too high stake to care about collateral damage.

>Spectre nudges Danial Craig's rebooted Bond closer to the glorious, action-driven spectacle of earlier entries, although it's admittedly reliant on established 007 formula.

The fuck does that even mean? Do you want it to be like the older movies and use the formula or be like the recent movies which pretty much abandon typical bond, but utilize pieces that make Bond who he is?

It was really bad. This isn't to say that there weren't some things done well, but the other things were pretty awful.

The main problem with Spectre is that it wastes its really talented cast, particularly all of the carry-overs besides Bond himself. Spectre's M has Ralph Fiennes (Ralph fucking Fiennes, who most recently carried the shit out of Grand Budapest Hotel) do nothing except advance the plot. Compare this to Skyfall's M, which has Judi Dench actually have an interesting thematic role as the mother figure of the 00 program.

And you can pretty much go on with the rest of the characters.

Bond himself is...eh. He's always been meant to be a badass -- someone who (to paraphrase Ebert) is meant to appeal to young boys. But I didn't get that from this film. Spectre's Bond is just a boring sap. A lot of his personality could have been fixed by letting him interact with MI6 more, but for whatever reason, they made the large majority of his time be spent with the Bond girl.

Don't even get me started on Blofeld or the Bond girl.

When you get down to it, Spectre's failure is that it's a mediocre/below-average Bond film and a terrible film by regular standards. Mendes and van Hoytema had some moments of great stuff, but it all goes to the wayside with the movie's terrible plot and characterization.

One of the reasons a lot of reviewers dissed it was because it wasn't as "deep or emotionally moving as Skyfall"

Shit in Bond movies is always borderline unbelievable, but people seem to have forgotten that. Spectre was pretty good. I wouldn't put it in my top Bond films but it was enjoyable.
Well no fucking shit. Skyfall was a good movie but it wasn't James Bond. The entire Craig saga takes itself way too fucking seriously, when James Bond used to be schlocky spy thrillers.

Though the movie deserves some marks against it for referencing Quantum of Solace, which was a bad movie AND a bad "Bond Film"

Which made perfect sense in the context of the movie.

People on here are twisting it to mean that the guy was targeting Bond for years, and build SPECTRE to ruin Bond.

Where in reality the reason he says that is because Bond has been meddling in SPECTRE affairs for a long time, and everytime he does he seems to lose someone he loves (Specifically Vesper and M)
>>
>>62718355
How was Skyfall a good movie? Bond's actions toward the end got M killed and he somehow kept his job in the fallout, how? What about the stupid trope about the villain getting caught and it being part of his plan? And then escaping and doing whatever the hell he wanted with impunity in London of all places?

Your mind has been clouded by '90s nostalgia. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
>>
>>62719801
Blofeld said that the torture would eventually kill him. The second probe takes out his ability to recognize people/ presumably some other stuff, and he begins fantasizing about escaping as further probes continue to damage his brain. That's why he's able to, for example, walk directly towards well armed and trained henchmen, without cover, and easily kill them without even being shot at. That's why he's able to shoot down a helicopter with a 9mm pistol from 100+ meters away. It's not because the movie has lost all touch with reality, it's because it's the sad, dying fantasy of a once seemingly infallible superspy. Since reviewwers were too stupid to notice, they greenlit another Craig film, but the intention was to kill James Bond, something no Bond film has ever done before.
