If you want a decent Horror version of Deliverance, watch The Rituals. It was made around the same time -- of course, following in Deliverance's footsteps.
Underrated and fairly obscure.

I didn't like how cheap it was; it's a movie based entirely on the universal pull of gay panic. But it was as level-headed about that as possible and had enough motifs to come across as valid film. But it's still not great or essential viewing.
It played upon the fear and arrogance of an urbanizing populace which considered anyone living in the countryside as inbred animals.
It's utter fantasy, because most of the "country" people are in fact very conservative and religious.
It came to symbolize the fear of the leftist establishment when confronted with rural traditionalist white people, and painting them as mutant rapists, paving the way to portray low-income white people as the villains or butt of jokes in every movie and TV show since.
