Former movie theater manager here. The reason that snacks and drinks are so expensive is that we barely make money off of the movies themselves. For every $10 you spend on a ticket, the theater only keeps about $1 of that sale. In order to pay employees and stock the inventory, the markup on concessions has to be huge.

It was when they started charging extra for seasonings that I got pissed.
I only ever buy popcorn at theaters so eh. I always bring in my own snacks cause fuck if i'm gonna pay $4.50 for a box of zours when I get a bag 8 times the size for $1 at dollar tree. Fuck that noise.
I'm willing to deal with expensive popcorn.
