Unfortunately even if that was true, the 99.9% of the world who don't get paid to watch it gave up after the first episode or two.
In the last two years, the AV Club has gone from a staff of some of the best pop culture writers on the web to a group of doctrinaire SJWs whose editors don't even bother to read the absolute shit they submit. Basic factual mistakes, spelling errors, grammar errors... but as long as white men are called out for being evil, that shit will get published IMMEDIATELY. Pathetic.

i like rectify a lot but i watched all of it in three days, one season per day, so i can't really remember if s3 was as good as the others because it's all a scramble to me. but i enjoyed it, that's for sure.
i like leftovers more though.
why the hate for av club? their recommendations have always been at least decent for me, and once or twice I confirmed they were right to pan a movie or show.

I concede that art is subjective. I'm not hyperbolizing or saying that there is a dichotomy, I'm saying taken on their own merits Fargo and The Leftovers are poorly written and just plain bad shows and the fact that they are critically acclaimed means we're in a sad state of affairs for pop culture analysis. I love television and wish there was multiple shows worth sinking my teeth into, but the fact of the matter is that The Knick is the lone beacon of genuine meaningful art in a dark and desolate programming landscape.

I'd say that's close to exactly the case. I'm not sure about the knick being that great show, but the leftovers and fargo are garbage and the only reason they're getting attention is because they're the top of the heap, right now, when nothing else of worth is airing or being shilled heavily.
That said, I respect the fuck out of cinemax for letting the knick be a kind of "sleeper" show. As this aggressive internet marketing for the leftovers and fargo (even if it is just lindelof shilling the leftovers) just puts people into a state of annoyance at the shows not living up to the hype.

To be perfectly fair, the claim of leftovers and fargo being well written has yet to be backed up either. The OP article is just blowing the leftovers, others in this thread are just blowing fargo.
So if you really want to get into burden of proof, it kinda still falls to people claiming those shows aren't terrible.

So you can't argue against the statement that the shows are poorly written unless I give you a specific example? Here's one of the top of my head go nuts. In season one of Fargo the magical super hitman Malvo who is so mysterious he never even gets his face on camera murders four people in an elevator of a casino, one of the most securely monitored establishments that exist, and there are no repercussions at all. We never see how he cleaned the elevator, disposed of the bodies, and dealt with the security cameras all by himself before anyone noticed. It's never brought up again. Explain how that's not bad writing.

I personally liked how both malvo and lester suffered partial frontal lobe disinhibition during the vegas scene so the writers could put them back in fargo for the big finale.
I mean heres lester poking someone he knows is a dangerous cold blooded murderer, which might be excusable, if malvo hadn't suddenly been unable to talk his way out of a situation, something he spent the entire season doing.

Oh give it time. Fargo s1 didn't really start shitting on itself until it needed to actually do something other than rip off the fargo movie by way of having quirky characters acting quirky.
I mean, right now s2 is ripping off basically the entire non-fargo coen library of successful movies. To say it hasn't really done anything yet. One big flaw is how they keep putting lou in "tense" situations, but he's got impenetrable plot armor by virtue of it being his flashback.

Not to mention Malvo goes undercover as a dentist to the point of cleaning random yokels teeth out for six months for a mere $100,000 when he would have made a comparable amount just from the fucking teeth cleaning. The whole show is filled with these inconsistencies, which is fine, but once it starts playing at being a deep and well written show and people fall all over themselves to analyze it and sound smart that's when it becomes a problem.
