It's also the sugar and cream, the water used to brew it, the electricity used to heat the water, the amount of coffee that's thrown out because no one bought it after 20 minutes on the heater, and the employee who makes and pours it. Oh, and the lids. The lids are actually more expensive than the cups, and those cardboard sleeves they put around the cups also cost like 10 cents apiece.
The markup is high, but not quite as high as you think. More goes into this stuff than most people care to think about and the prices for the components are higher than you imagine. I will say that coffee does have the highest profit margin of any drink or food in a coffee shop, though, by a lot.
