So what are your thoughts on this? I thought it was surprisingly bad, considering that it was the same director and writers (except one new guy) that made Skyfall, which was much better. I would give it a 4/10; it was even worse than the man from uncle
>>
Skyfall wasn't that good to begin with.
Skyfall looked fucking amazing and that masked a lot of the flaws. People can enjoy any visually appealing display as long a doesn't offend their intelligence.
>>
God I hate to agree, but this was nigh unwatchable. What was Mendes even needed for? After the first shot, everything is listless and haggard. Constant shot reverse-shot, the easiest and laziest way of shooting.

Christ this was bad.
>>
>>62647318
it was just a plain disappointment, main issues being unnecessarily connecting all the previous movies, shitty bond girl and way too many locations
I felt like the movie lacked an emotional center and went back to the smarmy killing machine bond from the old bonds instead of portraying bond as an actual human bean
mexico scene was great but the rest of the action just felt repetitive and way too over the top
>>
Just copying my post from the other thread.

>shit theme
>jarring tonal changes
>crappy script
>Cool action sequences
>crappy villain, somehow
It's just a by-the-numbers Bond movie. I'd put it on the same level as Skyfall, above Quantum and below Casino.

I did like the tempus fugit line.

Call it 6/10.

I hope that Waltz and Craig come back for the next one, but it needs one writer and a new director, like Von Donnersmarck or someone.

It just doesn't have the intrigue necessary for a spy franchise.
>>
>>62647859
Nolan wants to do one and was going to do Spectre if Mendes didn't want to come back.
I'd be fine with this.

My problem with Spectre was that it was nothing new.
A Nolan Bond film might not be good, but at least it would be different.

It would be interesting to have Waltz playing Blofeld in a Nolan movie. The Dark Knight wasn't full of crazy stunts but it had interesting monologues.
>>
>>62648179
>A Nolan Bond film might not be good, but at least it would be different.
I don't know, the Mendes films already seem pretty Nolan inspired, especially Skyfall.
>>
>>62648179

This is the eternal problem with Bond, it is a franchise with so many films, so much history that everyone has an opinion what it should be. People bitched about Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall and how they weren't "fun" and how they were too "dark and grim" and blah blah blah.

And they made Spectre, which is classic Bond, it has all the trademark Bond elements from gadgets to henchmen, and now people are bitching about it being too formulaic and similar to what came before.

People just can't decide.
>>
>>62648348
>People just can't decide.
I think it's more that they just can't satisfy everyone.

It's a bit of a cop-out to see that your movie isn't doing well and just say "Well it's not my fault, the people don't even know what they want".
It's the job of the film-makers to know what people want.
>>
>>62648348
I'm personally more on the side that new bond movies should actually be new and different and set themselves apart from the old ones. Spectre was a step back in the old direction.
>>
>>62648348
This is like saying "this clam chowder's got all the right ingredients, there's just some rat feces in it". None of the elements were used or developed properly. I saw all the old Connery and Moore before this just to give it every possible chance... It's just terrible.
>>
I actually dozed off for 20min in the theater it was so boring
>>
Just saw it. I almost fucking walked out of the theatre. I didnt like skyfall much, but this was surprisingly worse. Much fucking worse.
The uneven tone, somehow insanely boring action aside from first 10 minutes and one fight on the train, somehow they made a non substantial boring villain, aimless globethroting, fucked up pacing, le connection of all craig bond films because puppetmaster evil brother... Christ, I might even say that this is probably one of the worst movies I'vw saw this year.
>>
Why did they choose Mexico?

They could have made a less expensive version of Bond in the south of France, or Barcelona, rather than trying to glam him up in Mexico.
>>
>>62648997
The random guy next to me fell asleep and two guys two rows in front of me walked out just after the torture scene while the facility was exploding.
>>
>>62647318
It was good fun but the script was really fucking stupid at times:

>Literally lets girl wander off as he goes for a final showdown with criminal organisation that kills all the girls he liked
>"I built the greatest criminal org in history and took over the whole world...because I'm angry you took daddy from me and decided just fucking torturing and killing you wasnt convolutedenough"
>Why on earth did they send Jinx for another attack attempt on the train even though he wnated Bond to arrive at the base?
>Why didn't the base exploding impede the surveillance plan at all if it was all "information".
>Goes to sniper a guy, blows up a building and then nearly drives a helicopter through a mass of citizens. Is told "you just chill here naughty boy".

Apart from that though, really witty, charming thrilling and I had a great time.
>>
>>62649129
>Why did they choose Mexico?
>literally the best intro to any bond movie
pleb
>>
I liked it. The writers shat themselves while writing Madeleine so it sinks the movie a bit. They try to weave it with the other Craig ones, which is fine but they go over it waaay too fast. Should have spent more time showing the MI6 crew play connect the dots instead of Bond renovating the room. Also wondered if they were not afraid the movie would not stand on its own.

More MI6 crew is a very good thing.

Skyfall and Casino Royale were both better, this is still much better than Quantum of Solace. I thought Christoph Waltz was wasted in this role and his motivation was ludicrous. Batista did fine in his role as Oddjob 2.0 but I wish they didn't have Oddjob 2.0

I still enjoyed it, I just wish they had a little less fan service and a little more new stuff. Bond with Daniel Craig has always had this slightly jarring contrast between traditional Bond stuff on the one hand

>girl
>gadgets
>car
>quips
>glamorous locations with rich people

and on the other hand, the grittier things they have tried to put in. Bond murdering a ton of people in Mexico in this one for instance, or the fact that Casino Royale opens with him beating a guy to death in a bathroom

I mean look at that car chase after Bond infiltrates the Spectre meeting, was it meant to be funny and lighthearted or thrilling or what?
>>
Was Batista good in it?

He said like 1 word of dialogue

he said "shit" when Bond through him out of a moving train after Batista had been tracking him across the world
>>
>>62647318
What surprised me the most was the music. I absolutely loved Skyfall's music and Thomas Newman made music for this one as well, which is practically identical to Skyfall. Every single track has a pair that's only mildly different. But how it was used in film was just weird. Not that I'm an expert on this but the use of music did not feel well done whatsoever.

>>
>>62650527
Wasn't it only supposed erase Bond's memory of her -- not Bond's memory as a whole? Because Blofeld was basically Elliot Rodgers. After the escape, Bond never alludes to earlier activities with her. During the escape, Bond is constantly looking at her like he's confused.
>>
Question to those who have watched it - what the fuck was up with the drill?
It was supposed to fuck with his eyes, his ears, his facial recognition.

Like... did it just not work?

I was supposed to make him unable to recognize faces at all, not just hers. It's pretty clear the procedure failed.

They tried to go back to the old style of campy fun, but with the same grimdark theme as craigs previous movies.

I like craig's bond, but he cant do fun.

Overall, it was enjoyable, but a disappointment.
Waltz was fucking GOAT for the whole 5 minutes he was in the film though
>>
>>62650646
Bond is indestructible.
Also, Blofeld said something about "IF the drill hits the right spot". Apparently, it failed to do so both times. Bond fidgeted in the seat when the needle went in for the second time thogh, he might have tried to throw it off course.
>>
>>62650646
thats what I thought. Me and my gf were like, soooo did he turned into a vegetable with no facial recognition because of a fucking drill in his head?... oh wait, the power of plot armor and love

god this movie was terrible
>>
>>62650646
It was drilling into his skull and Blofeld was trying to hit a specific part of his brain and by damaging it make him unable to recognize faces. Not sure what exactly would be the point of that, considering he would have probably just kill him shortly after had they not escape.

Because

James Bond was raised alongside Blofeld's. Blofeld has always been jealous, and even killed his own father. Since then, Blofeld has set out to make Bond's life a living hell. The drill scene was a form of torture. Blofield was going to make him forget all the women he had slept with. Then make fun of him. And then Blofeld was going to make him outright blind and mute, but he was stopped when the watch exploded. But he should have killed Blofeld, because Blofeld becomes pic related/spoiler]

>I thought Christoph Waltz was wasted in this role and his motivation was ludicrous

I did think his motivation was ridiculous (like the idea that another anon mentioned that it should have been set up so that everything Bond had done in CR and QoS actually helped Spectre), but I don't think this was so much a waste as it was an appetizer. I'm holding out hope that another full film of Waltz will see a much greater role for him.
>>
"What sound does a peacock make?"

Seriously what did he mean by that?
>>
Fuck it I'm still gonna call him Oberhauser. That's his real name anyway.
Also fuck he survived. I was hoping they would close this chapter already.
>>
>>62651302
Waltz will return. Craig's Bond is a part of the "Rebooted Timeline" which Warner Bros already acknowledged, to give Bond some more character and to create a better story. Waltz eventually becomes the main villain. I'm guessing WB is going to do a reboot of From Russia With Love or Thunderball next.

I don't want Bond films to aspire to being independently "excellent" or "proper" cinema, I want a certain Bond style and have come to expect certain Bond tropes. I have to say as much as I enjoyed the other Craig films, I'm glad the tendency towards grittyness or groundedness has halted.

I love Spectre because it was an unashamed Bond film CR, QoS, and to some extant Skyfall tried to hard to reinvent the wheel.

what I did not like about Spectre is they're reusing all the same exotic locals as the last three films,Desert Hotel, fortified bunker in the middle of no where, streets of Rome, ultra modern office building, hopefully Bond 25 in 2017 mixes it up a tad.
