Anyway, his problems with the movie are idiotic, especially the main one (it has a bad message). No it does not, Simba has to deal with his past, which he does when he decide to go back. The reason the lions aren't helping him is because they think he's a traitor who killed their king, nostalgic critic takes this to mean that the "movie" it self somehow is against the main character and that the message that comes across is that Simba deserved to die until it turned out he didn't kill his father. This, he claims, is a "SERIUZ flaw" what the fuck are you talking about you fucking retard. He confronts his past when he decides to go back, he even ADMITS killing mofasa in front of everyone, it's just that Scar has better rhetoric than him, it's the villain tearing him down trying to defeat him 'The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it.'

They released it too late, in an awkward time-frame in the middle of December. The Blind Side and Twilight: New Moon were allowed to steal all the $$$ it could have gotten, a couple weeks earlier (at Thanksgiving). Moms took their kids/families to see the Blind Side. I remember wanting to see TP&TF for years(I'm a total Disney Princess loser), like 2005 talking, before it was even released. And unless you had been following it, you would have had no idea it was being released - outside of the "FIRST BLACK PRINCES!!!!" thing.
I don't even remember Oprah promoting the film, despite her having apart of it. She was doing busy whoring out The Blind Side, and promoting Precious as Oscar bait. Oprah's reach was at it's peak. Anything she promoted was gold, and her cult fans would see/buy/do it without question.
And while I liked Anika Noni Rose, I think she didn't bring the "star-power" the film needed. She was only cast because of all the attention Dreamgirls got. But for all the hype that film had, nobody was checking for Anika (it was all about Jennifer Hudson, and then Beyonce.)
Alicia Keys wanted to voice Tiana (being vocal about this yrs before Anika was even cast/considered). And I think if they gave her the role, it would've made the film massive - regardless of release date. She was just coming off a single that sold 10 million worldwide a year before, and another that was selling 15 million that year alone. She was at her career peak!

First it was a traditional 2D animated film that came out at a time were 3D animated film were all the rage.
Even now studios don't take chances on 2D films. Take for example The Peanuts Movie. The world / style of Peanuts totally lends itself to 2D yet they made it 3D and gave it a 2D look but at the end of the day it's still a take no risks CGI flick.
Second for a film that prides itself for having THE FIRST BLACK DISNEY PRINCESS you don't really get to see much of her in the film.
Even Whoopi Goldberg made this point on the view. You see her for about 10mins at the start of the film and than she spends 80% of the films running time as a frog when in the original story only the prince turns into a frog. She also went on bitching about how Disney didn't have the balls to give the world the first Black Disney prince because her love interest was latin but thats besides the point.
I think the animation was amazing! The songs good but not early 90s 2D films good. People in the 90s came out singing "Under the sea" , "Be our guest" and "circle of life" but non of the songs were magical / catchy enough to have people or kids singing them on the way out of the theater.

Last it's just the story.This movie suffers in part from the same thing Pocahontas did which was that they didn't really know what story they wanted to tell so they gave us a little of everything. It doesn't wrap up with that cozy Disney bow at the end. True Pocahontas is worse do to them not even ending it with the traditional "Happily ever after" and instead of a kiss they just wave goodbye to each other.
The black princess didn't care about having a prince /man in her life even tho thats what her mother wanted. All she cared about was MONEY MONEY MONEY so she could go into business as a strong independent woman and open up a restaurant.
Even when the villain was tempting her at the end he wasn't tempting her with a prince like Ursula but with the promise of a restaurant.

Saw Tarzan in theaters and I walked out feeling just as I did when I walked out of Atlantis: The Lost Empire which was sad. Felt like Disney 2D films are truly dying / dead.

DESU though, Tangled didn't focus on this too much either but it did great. She was more about self discovery, moving out of your comfort zone, and taking risks.
