>>55609010 here, honestly just learn more about directors than just films. By your list, you're pretty pleb, and that's fine because you'll see more films and your taste will grow. But do more research into directors, and even cinematographers. Take all the films you don't know, and add to your watchlist or whatever. Start to see the interconnectivity of film: oh this person was inspired by this person so I should check them out

>>

Yeah, not that big on Godard either. By reading and researching a director, you would probably find their masters. (imo, I know there will be disagreements) but a good into of directors who have good accessibility would be: Robert Bresson (Diary of a Country Priest, Au hasard Balthazar, A Man Escaped),
Kurosawa (Seven Samurai, Ikiru, The Hidden Fortress, which inspired Lucas' Star Wars and you'll see plenty of similarities)
Bergman (Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, he has a bunch)
Tarkovsky (Solaris, Stalker, Zerkalo)
And idk, Welles, Ozu, Renoir, Tati, Antonioni, Mizoguchi, Fellini. Just do your research

Damn it, was thinking just to put movies I rated highest on IMDb, but after all these years I don't know if I would watch them again would they keep those high grades. And another thing, what to rate higher: a movie that is artistically better (in my own opinion, of course) or the one which glued to me the most even though it is objectively mediocre in craftsmanship.

120 replies and only one person said the Matrix. I saw this when I was young and it blew the shit out of me. It is the most influential movie I've ever soth, both in my life and in the realm of science fiction. Pity the directors went down the drain in their last movie...

Lrn into cinema, niggers.

You have at least 4 anime movies, two of which are the same fuckin thing, an entire trilogy, and 3 movies that have come out in the the last god damn year.
Having 1-2 anime movies on your top ten is alright but god man, you need to watch a few more pieces from farther back than 2003 that isn't anime.
>>55621532
either you're a full blown weeb, 10 year old, or this
>>
some of you guys need to cool your jets, there's more movies to watch from the last 15 years than any of you will ever have time to see, having a list limited to newer stuff is nothing to be ashamed of.

Also I'm saving this thread and watching every single movie I haven't heard of that is either on what appears to me to be a relatively obscure list or that has a few movies I think are top ten worthy so I can be patrician like you guys

>You have at least 4 anime movies, two of which are the same fuckin thing,

End of Evangelion and Rebuild 2.22 aren't the same at all. And they are the best shit ever.

> an entire trilogy

Ok, I only added the Matrix trilogy to free up a space- I didn't want to list the 1st 2 matrix movies without the 3rd especially when the films are so very closely tied.

>3 movies that have come out in the the last god damn year.

Man of Steel is amazing- easily my favorite capeshit.
After watching Edge of Tomorrow I actually went back and read the light novel it was based on- turns out that the light novel was shit and the director/writers were able to use a very simple premise to create a rather splendid film.
Interstellar is a marvel...its unique draw between gravity, love, space exploration, and relativity were exceptional and nolan brought them all together well.

Perfect Blue, Ninja Scroll, and Ghost in the Shell all represent the best of their respective genre. They are all great films.

This is why top 10 movie lists are so problematic- there are many that share in quality, some that aren't comparable, and others that deserves mentioning. Alien, Terminator, Blade Runner, No Country for Old Men, Old Boy, Rush Hour, Austin Powers: the Spy Who Shagged Me, a japanese film called Shiki-Jitsu (The Ritual) are all great films deserving to be on my top 10. However, they cannot fit into those slots.

To be honest, I ranked all these movies based on how many times I've endeavored to watch them over their artistic merits. These are the films I have most enjoyed watching.
