Cruise is part of what ruined the movie for me. He's so fucking old and uncharismatic, and he's playing a PR guy with Emily Blunt as his love interest, who he doesn't really have any chemistry with.
The suits were ugly and clunky. The dialogue was mostly shit. The romantic subplot was unnecessary, and again worsened by Cruise being the lead.
And the movie was too serious, I don't know why, but I feel like the entire thing works better as a comedy.

The first Evil Dead was a full-on horror movie, and a pretty good one at that.
The only funny things about it were Bruce's campy acting and the corny scenes where they were running from the camera. The tree rape wasn't funny, his girlfriend becoming a creepy marionette wasn't funny, and the parts like the girl in the cellar and the pencil-ankle stab were downright horrifying actually. Not to mention the ending where he stuck his thumbs through his friend's eyes and everyone melted into creepy animatronic goo.
