UPDATED CASTING CALL FOR THE /who/ AUDIO PRODUCTION OF "Foreman"

1.01 - 'Nirvi'
Scripts here: http://doctorwhogeneral.wikia.com/wiki/Foreman#The_Leaked_Scripts

Most of the audio has been recorded, but before we can get to mixing the episodes we need 2 more big-ish roles filled. If you want a small and quick easy part, there are still a few of those left as well. Believe in yourself

= MAJOR PARTS WE STILL NEED =

>NIRVI CHANDRATREYA
A "brittle" independent feminist biracial former-Muslim atheist politics student, who wishes to find a sense of belonging in the world.
>"I was attacked by a tentacle monster and saved by an alien who looks like a lanky white boy. Can’t get shocked after a night like that."

>ALEX STARLING
A "fiery" young man, he is disorganised and hopeless but a sexually ravenous party animal. Had a difficult past. Nirvi's 'emotional rock'.
>"Three-hundred year old space alien with razor cheekbones AND he makes a killer sandwich? You hold onto this one, Nirvi."

= MINOR PARTS STILL AVAILABLE =

>Grace Butterworth, an 'oldish white woman' who gives lectures (4 lines in Ep. 1)
"So we can take it as read that suffrage was an essential aspect of the political landscape in the following century. As soon as women entered the game --"

>Second Student, who the Doctor finds high as balls and experiencing 'extreme cognition' from the effects of the Axons' drug (11 lines in Ep. 3)
"Axis XYZ... W is time. Look at it, right? You can’t see time."

>UNIT Guardsmen 1 and 2 (1 line each in Ep. 4)
"You hear he’s Major Scobie’s boy?" "Really? What a waste."

To volunteer for a part, just post in the thread and/or email [email protected] and get recording.
Quality not required.
Any other type of contribution (eg sound design) is also welcome.

Watch the Special Edition if you can. It has updated CGI effects that are actually much better than the aired version.

Ok. Watchin' Kinda instead.

Think I'd prefer the old FX. Part of why I like old Who is seeing the wires.

Fair enough. I like seeing the old effects too.

Yeah, that's the archive I'm pulling from.

Was gonna see Battlefield but one or two wouldn't load / DL.

Spielberg said after Peter Jackson does a secret project for him they're gonna do Tintin which would be just in time when Moffat's leaving. We'll he go back to write the next one?
>>
>>71559081
Bit of a disappointment tbqh. A meeting between the Daleks and the Cybermen should have been GOAT but instead we got a few catty remarks and some pretty pedestrian battle scenes.
>>
>>71560059
I don't think it's that likely, apparently he dropped out of Tintin relatively early on in order to take over Doctor Who so he probably wasn't a massive part of the final script. But they might get him back, who nose.

His name is the first listed on the writing credits. Dunno if that means anything though.
But yeah you're probably right. He might not want to go back anyways.

The girl Girly Letters harassed to have filming info has passed away today. This makes me sick that she had to put up with GL's shit when it should have been her own privileged moment. Rest in peace.
>>
>>71562399
Not defending GL, but it's in extremely poor taste to pretend you give the slightest fuck about the dead girl when you only see her as an excuse to shitpost about GL and feel morally justified.
Do you have it on personal testimony from this girl that she gave a shit about the time GL asked her annoying Doctor Who questions on Twitter? How long ago was that anyway, last year?
And yet you write a post telling her to rest in peace, but spend almost half of it outraged at some stupid fucker who was totally irrelevant to her life. It's very clear where your real interest lies.
>>
>>71559268
They were running around for 4 episodes and then crashed the freighter with no survivors. I guess it was fun, but out of classics I watched, this one was not actually memorable.
>>
>>71562577
I think its a bit overrated because of Adric's death. It's not an awful episode though.
>>
>>71562523
Fuck off mong anon.
>>
>>71562523
Absolutely not, that poor girl deserved to live way longer than she did and I think I have the same age as her so it hurts me even more. And it doesn't matter that she gave a shit about GL's intrusion in her life is simply bad form and irrespective to ask her such petty details about filming, the girl had a wish and it was supposed to be her day. I really wish the girl to rest in peace, regardless of Girly Letters and what I think of what she did to her. Sorry if I came across as "he's using that girl to shit on GL" that was not the intent, it's just that we only really did know about her because of GL's actions.
>>
Are you ordering?
>>

>>
>>71563007
It's ironic because the guy who plays Strax has been voicing Classic Sontarans in audios for a while now. So it will even sound the same.
From the description it sounds like they're basically doing 'Sontarans trying to join the Time War' and that's their justification.
>>
>>71563027
Apparently it has to do with the Time War. And this guy? http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Jask

https://www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/classic-doctors-new-monsters-volume-01-1315?range=113

>The final story is The Sontaran Ordeal by Andrew Smith. Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor do battle with his old enemies the Sontarans – but this time in a new and deadly form, ready for a War they must never take part in!

>>
>>71563104
Well it's not entirely unpossible, probably won't be decided for sure until they see how Pearl's received
>>
>>71563355
Well, he almost quit after the divergent arc because he basically thought that the storylines were bullshit. So he does not have the insane devotion to the show that, let's say, Colin has. But it's an easy job for ok cash.
>>

Yeah. Without taking Moffat's hastily written audition-sketch-clip too much to heart, it seems like they are going for a bit of an Ace like innocent punk character, except with an afro twist. Which is a welcome change from the prim sharpness of Clara or the moody sweetness of Amy. It's also a much bigger contrast with the incumbent Doctor than 11/Amy, 11/Clara or 12/Clara were. There is a clear unlikely mentor dynamic at work, again a bit like 7/Ace, with the companion's curiosity and silliness undercutting the Doctor's grandiosity. It will be fine.
>>

What about The Shakespeare Code, Mark? At least Gareth had the balls to make it historically accurate by including the genuine attitudes towards black people during the time it was set - unlike Moffat who adheres to leftist fantasy.

I'm not Gareth, although I wish I was, but I assume he has not come back to Doctor Who because it is beneath him now. I imagine he's probably penning the screenplay for the latest deeply political Hollywood blockbuster.

Yeah right, Gareth, it's not very nice to lie on the Internet you know. You mean the one you're making in your basement with puppets? How are you choosing the subject, hmm? Throwing darts at pictures of Moffat or Peter? If it falls on Moffat it'll be about the Jews, if it's Peter it'll be about cutting old people's pensions? Is that how you're doing it? Because it seems like your behaviour has got you ERASED from TV and cinema altogether.

Have a story set in a black community, and for once the Doctor is the odd one out, with all the interesting nuances that incorporates. We've had stories touching on a companion's blackness but never one on the Doctor's whiteness.

Nah its gonna be a mess. Everyone will want to do their own thing with the Doctor and the companion and it will be all over the place because Chibnall doesn't have what it takes to save the scripts. We'll see but I'm not confident.

>>71566577
Hopefully it works a bit like the VNA writer community where everyone would bounce ideas back and forth, Cornell inspiring Orman who went on to cowrite with Aaronovitch etc. And it might kill ideas like "scary eyebooger man" before they get started.

Just having Chibnall in as opposed to Moff will make that easier, it seems like no one wants to say anything about his ideas when he's running the Beeb's two biggest franchises. Which can be a good thing - it gave him the ability to say "no, screw the marketers, I'm casting a wizened old Scottish dude" - but also brought us endless scenes of Clara leaving and returning.

That's a convenient idea but at the end of the day things like Clara's 2 false exits were a result of having to write the show as they went along and not being certain if Jenna was leaving or staying, not some crazy game plan by Moffat. I'm talking about things like "now let's put in a cat man and a sequence where they have to hide behind some furniture" or "the sleep dust can see" or "random Tivolian", no-one would have been scared to raise issues with any of that. The insularity of the script process and collective desperation/madness of the people involved is what leads to this folly.

So is Capaldi going to become the Valeyard? Or is there going to be an asspull so that the writers can pander to their teenage audience who doesn't even know who Colin Baker is?
>>
>>71569058
The answer is that there is no obligation for the Valeyard to be addressed in the show, nor has there ever been such an obligation, and it is highly unlikely that anyone will ever bother unless they have an idea so spectacularly good it justifies resurrecting a shit villain from a shit era of the show.
>>

Never really understood why people wanted a Valeyard "explanation". The original story doesn't really feel suitable or compatible with further explanations.
>>
>>71570250
The original story isn't even compatible with itself. The final episode was cobbled together by Pip and Jane when Holmes' plan was thrown out. Whatever sane explanation for the Valeyard we might have got was replaced by their inept shit.
>>
>>71570312
So Holmes didn't actually intend him to be the Doctor?

Wikipedia::
>Robert Holmes was originally commissioned to write the two episodes. However, he died from a chronic liver ailment after completing a draft of the first and left nothing beyond a plot outline of the second. The series script editor Eric Saward resigned around this time due to disagreements with the producer, John Nathan-Turner, but agreed to write the final episode based on Holmes' outline, and also rewrite Holmes' draft to tie the two together, for which he was credited as Script Editor. The original ending to this segment (and, indeed, the whole Trial story and possibly the series) would have seen the Doctor and the Valeyard in an inconclusive cliffhanger, both (seemingly) plunging into a void to their deaths as an extra "hook". However, Nathan-Turner felt this was too downbeat[6] and believed that it was important that the season did not end on an inconclusive note since it was important after the hiatus to prove the series was back in business. Saward refused to change the ending and withdrew permission to use his script very late in the day, by which point the production team had been assembled and the segment was entering rehearsals.

>John Nathan-Turner commissioned Pip and Jane Baker to write a replacement final episode. For copyright reasons they could not be told anything of the content of Saward's script (and there were lawyers observing all commissioning meetings).

TARDIS wiki:
>An earlier draft of The Ultimate Foe made it clear that the Doctor would definitely, at some stage, turn into the Valeyard, desperate to extend his life after his remaining regenerations had run out — a situation not dissimilar to the one earlier faced by the Master. Nathan-Turner did not favour the dark nature of these and other developments in the script, and felt this plot point would allow cancellation of the series for bookending the Doctor's future destiny.
