New Friday the 13th thread to continue general discussion of the series.

Also if the anon who was dumping the Friday the 13th comic could post more that'd be great.
>>
>>71257664
why do people like this series? all it is is stupid characters wandering around for half the movie until some block of wood jumps out and kills them

rinse, repeat
>>
>>71258041
There's a certain kind of charm to them.

The kills are creative and gory and there's a lot of nudity, which are the main selling points. The filler scenes with the random teenage usually have funny dialogue and situations.

It's a series that kind of epitomizes the "relic of the past" thing. It's not for everybody, I can see why some people aren't into it, but there's a certain unique kind of appeal to them. Also a lot of people would've grown up with these movies and may have been their introduction to horror movies, so thy have a soft spot for them.

Then again I'm posting on /tv/ on a Saturday night so what do i know.

Am I the only one who liked part 8? It is so severely underrated.
>>
>>71259111
8 is a neat idea, but ultimately was handicapped with the budget. Filming in NYC is expensive and they didn't get all the landmarks they wanted.

I wish he'd looked like this for a whole movie as opposed to do what they did with him JGTH even though I actually love that one

>>71259111
It's one of the lesser entries but it's got good kills and a fun concept, and when they actually get to New York it's great.

Rate hate or commentate I like the idea of Jason embracing the campy nature, keep the kills gory as fuck but have a bit of fun with the settings and character.

>>71259371
It seemed they were keeping 8 in canon. Looks like that's what the toxic waste did to his skin

Was jason ever a living human being in any of the movies?

The Final Chapter was the best one, Part 2 follows. Part 6 is a meme, the only good part about that movie was Jason's getup/equipment.

I bet you think X is "DA BEST XD DAT SLEEPING BAG KILL THO"
>>
>>71260094
It's kinda debatable, really.
Officially, he was a regular man, albeit retarded with incredible strength, until his death in 4, and from 6 he became a zombie. Part 9 implies he might have been a Deadite and it's never clearly established whether not he even drowned in the first place.

>>71259388
It's a cool idea, but what happens with the chick he saves? Would they team up? I don't think I'd like that to be honest.

>>71260094
In the first four it was left ambiguous as to whether or not he survived drowning as a child or not, basically in form with your standard "campfire story" logic (he dies, but then grows up and lives out in the woods waiting for teenagers to slaughter). In some respect, he was sort of like Ygor from Universal's "Frankenstein" films; he could be hanged, shot, or whatever, but without any explanation he'd be able to walk it off to star in the next sequel.

But that's only one interpretation. It was either that, or by some unexplained supernatural force, he was physically resuscitated after his mother's death (or possibly before that?), and she really WAS hearing his voice telling her to kill camp counselors to avenge him (even though he never actually spoke on-screen, I guess he could talk as a ghost?)

>>71258233
Was that the guy from part 5?
>>
>>71260283

For what it's worth, I can't ever see him sparing bitches and whores but a deformed/mentally challenged kid doesn't seem so bad. He would see himself in that after all. Something similiar happened in one of the books.

And now to shift the subjects. Do you guys like the idea of these monsters having nemesis?

Jason and Tommy
Freddy and Nancy
Michael and Laurie

Do constant enemies deserve a place in the horror genre, characters who show up to be the thorn in the main attractions side every time? Or should more horror movies end with the monsters winning?

Yeah Based Roy killed everyone after his son died
except for the guy who killed his son

>>71262984
I like the idea of a nemesis, but not in every movie. With the series you gave examples of they're long running, so it works. The villain can win most of the time but every now and then that old face from the past rises again.

Basically I like a balance version of what you're saying so that you can get both. But it's harder to make a series long-running nowadays so it may not happen in modern horror movies as much.
>>
>>71263246
Roy seems like a bit of an idiot. Part 5 is great fun though.
>>
>>71263334
Agreed, such an underrated entry with one of the highest body counts and the non-horror scenes are among the funniest in the series.

Most qt grils in the series too.
>>
>>71263504
Friday the 13th has for me always been about having fun as opposed to being scary. Part 5 is probably one of the most stupid/fun movies in the series and was a blast to watch through.

The only bad films are 9, FvJ and the remake.

>>71265478
the amount of hate this game is getting before it's even come out is absurd. Like, I understand the frustration of wanting a single player campaign, but the thing is, the creators went into this project with a multiplayer game in mind. They haven't thought up concepts for a single player campaign. And any single player campaign they create will simply be tacked on and be a shitty version of the multiplayer with annoying AI. A single player campaign to be good would have to be different from the multiplayer to be good. Games with campaigns where the single player is basically the multiplayer but with AI always suck.
>>
>>71265221

i wouldnt consider it canon and the comic is pretty shit
>>
>>71265699
I had a mixed feeling from what I saw. I liked the nudity and the murders were cool, but the dialogue and characters were some of the worst I'd ever seen

I burst out laughing when the girls walked in on the two gay dudes I honestly didn't the comic to through me for such a loop like that.
>>
>>71265863
*honestly didn't expect the comic to throw me for such a loop like that.
>>
>>71265863

ehh i gave the whole thing a read, really sucked imo and I would have lived a happier life without knowing of this cancerous "shaman" origin story.

Characters like Jason are so much better without shitty tryhard "origins", him coming back mysteriously as an unstoppable killing machine works fine.

Funnily enough i own some of the earlier comics, and they are actually pretty good.
>>
>>71266049
Are there any particular ones you'd recommend? I'm thinking about getting into the comics and novels based on the series.

There are a few by Avatar Press, they're all pretty awesome, have nice art, great nudity and gore.

Still remember jerking off to the nudity like 11 years ago when i first bought them in high school.

Ahh those were the days 2bh.

Part 3 mask iconic introduction.
>>
>>71263246

This is true. Saw pretty much kept deconstructing this trope by killing off anyone who may have had a semblance of heroic lead. I do like the idea of people who show up, maybe go missing, and then appear later on in the series though so that can also be a good story to tie threads and characters to, but like you said.

There aren't many horror films doing that any longer.
>>
>>71259111
Maybe, I know for a fact I'm the only guy that liked the remake though.
>them vietnam tunnels
>them archery trophies foreshadowing
>Jason sprinting after people
>sleeping bag kill v2
>>
>>71267293
The remake is bretty alright. The problem is most Friday characters are likable as fuck. Every character in the remake are fucking asshole faggots
>>
>>71267293
I liked the remake. I really liked the approach they took to Jason, making him a hunter/trapper with traps, tunnels and efficient kills. Derek Mears gave a great performance.

The nudity was also the best in the series and the direction was solid if not a little bland.
>>
>>71267528
That's a positive for me. Jason is actually the person you're supposed to be rooting for for once. The brother and sister and maybe the Asian dude are the only characters somewhat likeable; its fantastic seeing all the other smug little rich kids getting gored. Its not like that poor wheelchair kid in the one movie where you have some sympathy
>>
so we all agree that X was the best jasonkino, right?

Parts 4 and 6 were the best of the series.
>>
>>71267987
What ones were those? People assume I remember everything that happened in part X or Y
>>
>>71268369
4 is the final chapter, 6 is Jason lives
>>
>>71268432
Yeah but like what happens in them homie? Give me a kill or two to jog my memory. They're all blended as one its been so long. The first is his mother and no mask, 2 is him in a bed sheet and there's a run down cabin he lives in, 3 he gets the mask, after that its a blur. One they're on a boat or something then somehow in new York from a lake. One has his heart turning people in to Jason or some weird shit . One has the telekinetic girl and then all the tommy ones. Maybe I should just marathon them all again
>>
>>71268885
Part 4 is where he wakes up in the hospital and then gets killed by a kid

6 is where he gets struck by lightning Frankenstein style
>>
>>71269082
Ah ok so 4 is where the tommy arc starts, that one was pretty rad if I recall. What's the one with the telekinetic girl? That shit was bizarre

You just described it.

I actually hated slashers until I saw Child's Play and realized, "Oh, it's not supposed to have rhyme or reason. There's a doll killing people basically because he can and that's quirky."
Sure there are a few actually good movies in the genre, but it's mostly just for zoning out to. It gets old if you watch five in a row, but it's fun every once in awhile.

I haven't seen all, but I'll rate what I know.
VIII(when watched as a comedy)>original>Michael Bay>VII>VI>Freddy vs Jason>IV(seriously, HOW do people enjoy this one?)
I realize that's different from what most people say, but I don't care. It should be noted that I did not see all of JGTH, but liked what I did see of it.

TV series far outdoes any of the movies in terms of actual quality.

>>
>>71270209
That one had my favorite characters, but it failed to be my favorite because of that unbelievably stupid ending with the father and the fact that they followed the Friday formula exactly (main girl makes it out, love interest either makes it out or dies last, hated character who doesn't believe in Jason dies last or second to last).
>>
>>71270471
New movie is gonna be a origin movie.
>>
>>71270540
>implying Candyman isn't already in my top five horror movies
One of the few films I think is better on repeat viewings. The first half had to go through so much exposition to set up an urban-legendesque villain. Interesting, but very slow. The second half is where it's at and the movie's better when you can enjoy that without having to pay a ton of attention to the first half.
