I thought it was a really interesting point for them to make with that one girl being praised for her tampon in a tea cup and Enid ridiculed for her found art piece of a Coon's Chicken poster. The tampon cup says nothing but is an intriguing mashup of objects associated with women's gender roles so people respond well to it because if they don't understand they can smile and nod and pretend that they do. The Coon's Chicken poster reveals the ugliness of racial prejudice in the US and confronts the viewer with the startling notion that the country they live in has a very ugly foundation. It's a much more potent message than the tampon cup but everyone hates it because the criticism isn't of some nebulous idea of the patriarchy, the criticism is of the viewer. It holds a mirror up to the past and says "This is where you live. This is who you come from: the artist who drew this racial caricature, the man who commissioned it, the patrons who all saw it and never gave pause or protest; this is who you are."
The world wasn't ready for Enid Coleslaw.

I think you misunderstood. Enid's "art" was supposed to be just as bad as the tampon girl's art. She just brought it in to be shocking, and when pressed about what it actually meant she just made it up on the spot.
