Who's your favorite filmmakers? Favorite films?
Are there more interesting Taiwanese filmmakers?
Why is Qi Shu so sexy?
Do you find this trend of post-Ozu flicks comfy or boring?

can anyone tell me the trick of getting deeper into Ming-liang's movies? I've only seen The River and Stray Dogs and while I had a deep admiration for the craft involved (particularly that of Stray Dogs) I wasn't able to get all that emotionally invested in what I was watching. They both had incredible technical components but I couldn't bring myself to feel too strongly for what I was watching. What am I missing?
I love Edward Yang's stuff though. I've only seen Yi Yi and Brighter Summer Day but they're both incredible. I think I prefer Ozu significantly to everyone you posted though.
Hu sure can compose a shot

need to finish Touch of Zen, I will say though Hu chooses some odd places in combat scenes to NOT have sfx.

Try watching Goodbye Dragon Inn on a rainy evening (preferably after midnight). TML's films work best if you're in the right environment so make sure you're not too excitable before you watch it

GDI is one of the more overrated Ming liang films. He should watch Vive L'Amour and the hole instead
