Yeah, visiting stuff like Machu Picchu, doing a 3 day little hike on the Inca trail. I'll be there for 3 weeks total.

I was in Peru with my girlfriends family last June. Her family is in Lima and at first the culture shock was overpowering. I'm a Marine war veteran and an avid backpacker and I wet the bed my first night. Nobody found out and I couldn't tell if it was because of the damp weather or the what (it's never happened to me before). After some time in Lima i calmed down and took it easy, but it was hard trying to enjoy myself when every single person tells you to watch out for thieves. No solace until in the comfort of their home.

Machu Picchu is amazing, --MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A TICKET TO CLIMB **Huayna Picchu**-- it's extremely limited and you will regret not doing it.

Be careful in Cusco.

Make sure to see the town of Ica, south of Lima to try the Pisco and visit huacachina.

Drink the beer in lima and cusco. it's german and great. Drink Pisco sour's in lima and Ica.

Eat ceviche, aji de gallina, and lomo saltado.

Stay the fuck away from the Chicha unless you get it in the sacred valley. if you drink the chicha in cusco or lima, you will get sick. only drink bottled water. stay away from any milk drinks.

>Be careful in Cusco.
Bullshit. Cusco is safe even far from the plaza, it is patrolled by hot policewomen with dual revolvers.

Lima is full of thieves and drug addicts, and if you are by the beach transvestites.

I lived in Florida a while and the spiders, at least, didn't seem way off from New England. That said, I didn't even get to see cool wildlife while stationed in Iraq, excepting mujj.
