Hey /trv/.

So I've spent the last 4-ish months in Mexico teaching kids english. I have to leave the country to renew my US tourist visa and get another 6 months of permitted time in Mexico.

I need to leave early july, and can only get a few (4-5) days off teaching. Having a hard time finding round trip flights to my home state (Indiana) for less than $375-400. This seems rather steeper than normal.

Anyone recommend some search tools or strategies to get cheaper flights? I am willing to deal with ridiculously early flight departures/arrivals.

tl;dr OP wants yer strategies for finding cheap flights.

Maybe look at getting to a Delta hub out of Mexico with their gazillion dailies, and then connecting with a cheapo like Allegiant to/from IN.

WTF working on a tourist visa in Mexico? Sounds a bit too dangerous.

how so? I'd describe it more as "sketchy". The school I'm at doesnt care and technically theres some sort of loophole so apparently La Migra doesnt give a fuck that we dont have work visas, as long as our tourist/resident visas are in order (hence my need to make the journey). What makes you think it'd be dangerous?

How easy is it to find work teaching English there?

If you're a native speaker (especially british, they think the accent is more "professional"), then very easy.

If you're a native speaker with any form of TEFL cert, even easier.

If you're a non-native but fluent speaker with cert and/or experience, p damn easy too.

Just wondering OP what makes you opt for teaching on a tourist visa rather than the official one? You're supposed to be able to get a work visa with as little as a TEFL cert and after you renew it so many times I hear you automatically qualify for permanent residency.

In considering doing the same as you so it'd be nice to hear from someone with experience

Also San Antonio has several flights to and from Mexico city a day so it's one of the cheapest places to fly there from if you can nab a cheap flight from Indiana to SA it might be your best bet

gross is that one of those dog porn vids?

Which part of México? ? Have you considered going to Belice for a few days that'll be way cheaper

The work visa process in Mexico is kind of a bitch these days, you have to have a "sponsorship" from an employer, then leave the country to start the process in your home country. If I were planning on staying here long term itd be worth the trouble but I'm not going to be working here past the end of the year so it's really not a priority for me.

I'm in Puebla, was looking at flights to Belize and Guatemala and honestly it's not really any cheaper than flying into Dallas or San Antonio. The main reason I want to go home for a few days is to pick up stuff I need for traveling and bring back things my roommates want to order online. And to relax for a few days and eat American food I've been missing. If I'm not going to go home I'll just do a one-day round trip to Dallas or something and renew my visa that way, it's the cheapest option
