What's the most dangerous thug that has happened to you or just by you when abroad?

Afraid I don't have anything to share, not sure if I'm lucky or just inexperienced, but I do enjoy reading other people's stories.

In Marrakech with my girlfriend. We got lost and someone pretended to guide us but led us to a deeper part a souk and tried to get money from us. Someone else intervened and helped us find our way.

He probably wouldn't have done anything, but considering how lecherous 90% of men there were over my girlfriend, I do wonder what could have happened.
>>
>>1094408

That happened to me as well. Me and my father were looking for the palace gardens in Marrakesch and everybody said they were closed.
Some guy said they were open and asked us to follow him.
When I realised we were going through empty alleys I got suspicious and faked stomach ache so we went back
I'm so sure we would've been robbed.

So maybe I should've written it down in the OP but since nothing happened I can't say for sure if it was a dangerous situation or not.

Not 'dangerous' per se, but two kids (one gypsy, one Bosnian) tried to rob me in Sarajevo. I greentexted it in another thread a while back, but I can't be arsed to do it again. It's shitposting, I know, but I'm pretty tired.

That's honestly what's keeping me from travelling to countries like Colombia. It might just be an exaggeration but I've got the feeling that a mugging isn't just a mugging down there, they don't care if you live or die and might kill you just for giggles after they've had your stuff.
>>
>>1094544
My impression from a native Colombian was that they're building it up as a western tour destination now. They're basically killing all the homeless and white skin is as desirable as gold, so I don't think you'd have anything to worry about unless you're involving yourself in some questionable activities eliciting that kind of behavior.

im visiting sarajevo in a month and a half, how was it when you were there? I remember reading the story, you defused the situation by just heading back to your hostel, right?
>>
>>1094856
It was raining and pretty cold, all four days I was there. But it's still a very beatiful city. There are some traces of the war still visible, but overall it's very orderly and pretty. That's part of why I was so surprised by two kids trying to mug me. I didn't have that in Croatia or Serbia.
And that was indeed what I did.

After fucking a hooker, some gangsters/pimps tried to rob/extort me with the story that my friend stole a bottle of wine from their hotel and I had to pay $1000.

Maybe they were trying to pretend that they thought their pimp was my friend or something, it was really just a robbery. They weren't armed though, just using threats of being arrested and then claiming that they'd bribe police to frame me. There was a really small one who spoke English and a big fat strong one who didn't. Eventually I got pissed off enough to beat up the tiny one while the big guy just got out of my way and wouldn't come near enough for me to fight him too. I trashed the place a bit, smashed a glass door and stormed out. Then I got paranoid and spent an hour running down dark alleys and making hard turns and double-backs in case they decided to follow me.

It's kind of a scam. They get you lost and ask you for money to get you out of the souk. If you don't give them something they will let you there. I guess if they are in the mood, they could eventually rob you tho.

Why would you even go to Marrakesch anyway? This city is filled with tourists traps. They even try to scam other Moroccans.

Nothing really has ever happened to me. Hung out with a gang of boxers in Nepal during holy, they then brought me and my gf down and alley way random thinking, "great, I'm,going to get beat to fuck by 8 guys and they will run train on my gf" looking around and I found a metal rod, then the one says "we're here, and offered local alcohol and weed in an area that just happened to be near a major square, the alley was a legit shortcut. That was probably the only thing that got me worried.

In Thailand a bunch of 20 something's got mad at me, they parked their motorcycles next to my friend's and mine. Then some drunken tourists came down and was hitting bikes and cars with some sort of frond/leaf. I mentioned them to be drunk tourist trash and walked on. The kids start yelling at me and a ruk tuk driver told US to run. My friend and I had no idea what was up. We grabbed a beer and headed back. Kids got in my face, talking about my friends touching their bike. I told them to calm the fuck down and told them that they touched my bike too (and jesus, it was a tap with a leaf, but Thai guys and face...) then told them if I couldn't speak Thai they would have jumped 2 innocent guys, it became all "I'm sorry older brother etc etc" and we all,had some beers

My best story didn't happen to me. In Hanoi many people at the hostel we're getting robbed by mototaxis. Ride into an alley and demand money or stole cell phones etc. I saw one guy from my hostel all amped up and winded. He told me a mototaxi tried to pull a knife on him and he just reacted. Punched the guy in the face, putting him on the ground. He then grabbed the keys out of the bike, knocked it over and threw the keys down a drain and ran.

All the actually bad stuff that has happened to me has been home in the states. Everything overseas has been close calls/ general sketchiness.

Most terrified I've been was in a cab in the West Bank, Palestine during the end of the Third Intifada. I was getting a ride to an Israeli checkpoint through a (well known) bad area. The cab driver slowed down and started beeping his horn, I thought it was all over, that a bunch of Hamas were going to come out and drag me out of the car. Turns out he was just about to turn around a blind corner and almost hit someone head on while doing so, even with him honking. Westerners were getting kidnapped and executed around this time so it was the only thing running through my head. Pic related, was near where it happened

Kind of silly, but it really caught me off guard how so many people in Tokyo ride their bikes on the sidewalk. I've had so many close calls of people just barely missing me by inches, passing me from behind or whatever. I've also saw quite a few other pedestrians nearly get run over by cyclists. They seriously need some bike lanes over there.

Was in Barcelona, spent the night sick inside hotel room. Family gets back from their night, were outside with the crowd cheering after a FCBarcelone victory. People everywhere on Las Ramblas, going crazy. Wanna at least be a little part of it. Go outside with friend. Suddenly, people running in every ways. Just around the corner of my hotel door. See armoured police. Two are coming our way. Don't react (I'm a french Canadian, think police is here to protect)... Well shit, they are coming right at us and fast (WTF?!)... They start hitting me and friend with their fuckin club... Staff from hotel see us, take us inside, yelling at the coppers that we are just stupid tourist kids. That was the day my canadian fantasy bubble was burst...
>>

I once had a man offering me and my girlfriend a ride home from a bar in upcountry Thailand drive us down the wrong dark alley and pull a gun--but it seems he was just either crazy or drunk, or possibly both, because he put the gun away apologetically after a moment and drove us to the right place without doing anything. Other than that weird but ultimately harmless experience, I've been very lucky. Had my obligatory motorcycle accident (every foreigner resident in Thailand who's driven a motorbike that I have ever known has had at least one), but it wasn't that serious--just some stitches, scrapes, and bruises.

Really, driving a scooter down Thai highways, unlicensed, unqualified, and on at least a couple of occasions drunk, was the most dangerous thing I experienced, and I was very lucky.
>>
>>1095988
Those Thai highways and streets... never seen anything like it... I love Thailand so much but everytime I have to go on those streets, even with a driver, my life flashes before my eyes constantly until we get to our destination.

If people could learn how to fucking drive there it really would be paradise.
>>
>>1095994
Amazingly, Thailand isn't even the scariest traffic I've experienced, but it is without question scary. And legitimately dangerous--didn't even occur to me to mention that I've witnessed multiple very serious traffic accidents, at least one possibly fatal.

Number 2 in the world for road deaths. Seen lots of dead people in my years riding there. I haven't crashed there yet, but people are stupid for not wearing proper gear there. A lot of that is to blame on taxes making decent gear too pricey though. Even would get my girlfriends proper gear from the states. It's a hit and run mentality too, truckers might also decide to back over you as well. Then if it's not the other drivers it's the animals. Nothing will ruin your day like a stray dog at 160kph. Despite the danger the riding in Nan and Phayao, ever phetchabun, is great.

What were you intending to shoot? Coke? Speed? Seems a bit silly that you wouldn't know.

>I have not one but two separate friends who have accidentally purchased when seeking other drugs--both wound up smoking it with the rationale that, "Well, I paid for it..."

I wasn't going to shoot anything. I was in Voodoo Fest '12 and was drinking and doing coke. I was out of coke, knowing I needed more. I found a guy who took me to the house where I was supposed to get it. They told me they can get some in a few hours, in the meantime would I like to shoot some heroin to take the edge off.

Wasn't in my best judgement at that time so it just kinda happened.

What in God's name were you doing in a fucking favela in Rio in the first place?
>>
>>1096110
Yep, deadly roads are a big lower-middle-income country problem--enough cash and commerce for lots of vehicles large and small, but still developing-country enough to guarantee limited attention to licenses or rules, combined with a corrupt police force. I taught at a university briefly, and in an informal survey of a class of roughly 30 students, all but one had motorcycles and none had a license.

Anyway, I guess serious motorcyclists are exempt from my 'every farang expat has at least one accident' rule--I was thinking mostly of idiots like me who live in cities and buy scooters without really knowing how to drive them, then plunge into commuting before they really get how urban Thai traffic works.

And as for the hit-and-run thing, most truckers (like most other drivers) are uninsured, and many are unlicensed, so they would wind up being liable out of pocket for damages caused in accidents. That's why nearly every accident report in the papers refers to drivers 'fleeing the scene.' And I guess if you're dead, you can't be a witness against him.
>>
>>1096533
Oh, and I was going to mention that the driver who knocked me off my motorbike did not stop. She probably should have--the crash was my fault. I was a shitty driver at the time. But I was too busy bleeding from my face to wait for the cops.

I've just arrived to tokyo, staying temporary at a hostel in roppongi while searching for an apartment. First weekend I go out drinking with people from my embassay in shibuya, get completely shitfaced at an Izakaya --> bar trip.

Start dozing off at the bar in shibuya, and my friends decide to put me in a taxi, they don't know where i live to they just tell the driver to head to roppongi (I'm sure you can guess how that works out)

Once on the streets i get hanked in by one of the nigerian touts and escorted into a small bar where I get served more beer while a SE Asian girl is chatting me up, it's an hostess bar. I get even more shitfaced, and they ask me to pay for what i had been drinking so far, which i do with my bank card (never fucking bring your bank card to roppongi).

Since i already payed once for a few beers, they now know my code. So this is the part where i doze off again, after watching security tapes at the police station we estimated it to 5 hours (yay, i got rape drugged). They know I don't got any more cash on my card since they already emptied it (could see on transaction log later that they systematically tried to charge 1k usd, 1k usd denied, 500 usd, 500 usd denied, 250 usd...). They threaten me to get them what I owe them, they know where i work due to business cards and promise to show up there. Then i get escorted out.

I don't scare, first thing i do the following morning is to inform my friends at the embassy and my coworkers so everyone knew what had happened, then I went to Azabu police station.

To start with I got told that they couldn't help me, until they saw my visa and realized that I were going to stay there for a full year, it was as if the entire office exploded in a torrent of activity. Within 5 minutes I was pointing out the guys from a folder they already had.

1/2
>>
>>1096909
Next week i got recognised on the street while walking home from work, in the middle of roppongi crossing, that was a really bad idea on my part. The big guy in charge insisted i owed them more money and, once again, insisted i followed him up to his office so we could settle. Meanwhile i see other nigerians surrounding me in my peripheral sight.

I have no qualms about bolting there and then, these guys are known for stabbing people. Thankfully Azabu station is really close.

Fast forward a few weeks, get called down to station and get to see pictures from the raid on the club. Got to see a picture of the big nigerian guy with his head in his lap looking like his entire world was falling appart. Got told that him and the rest of the croonies were i jail already and being fastracked for deportation, truly there can be justice!

The detective i had been talking with asked me to help them with other cases, like shutting down chinese massage studios, busting weed dealers/buyers and taking down other nigerians. Sadly nothing came off it, but I would have done my part :P

Anyways, a few months later i got told that the owner of the club, who had fled the country, had been apprehended at Narita while trying to reenter the country. Got to meet a state prosecutor at the justice department and gave a new testimony for the case he was building against the owner.

That's a short brief about my incident in roppongi, not even a full week into my year long stay

>Coolest i saw
while walking home from a night out in shibuya I saw a middle aged japanese taxi driver and middle aged passenger exiting the cab, folding their jackets then fistfighting in the streets

Not at all dangerous, in retrospect, but possibly amusing.

>dicking about Paris doing street photography and urban field recordings
>end of a long day, alighting the funicular at the base of Sacre Coeur in the evening
>oh shit look at all these perfectly upstanding Nigerian gentlemen hawking friendship bracelets and the like
>Steel myself for general touting, walk in the general direction of my next destination
>Hear commotion behind me, friendship bracelet peddlers audibly agitated, headed my way
>oh fuck
>walk faster
>nothing happens

I checked my gear when I got back to my hotel and I'd lost my microphone's wind muff. I think they were trying to return it to me.

Almost guaranteed he was Nigerian. The Nigerians are all over Tokyo. They moved in after the police got tough on Triads and kicked most of them out for their expired tourist visas. They have some agreement with the Yakuza in Tokyo where they get to run their garbage fake hip-hop shops in peace. Some of them are fresh off the plane, straight from "the bush". I got to know a couple of them when I lived on Takeshita street for a year.
>>

Why did you go there? What do you think about Hamas?
>>
>>1097172
I'm not who you're replying to, but I was also there about the same time. It's interesting and the Palestinians I met were all super nice and cool with me (I'm a white American guy).

Seems to me Hamas doesn't represent their people well as everyone I talked to just wanted shit to stop on all sides. They didn't want to live with the IDF checkpoints, spent shell casings around IDF guard towers, barbed wire preventing them from going into the "Jewish" parts of their cities, etc.

The only people who were hostile to me were Israeli settlers in Hebron because I told them I wasn't Jewish. Judging by their reaction, I might as well have said I fuck little kids for sport. They basically told me to GTFO because I wasn't one of them.
>>
>>1096286
I love the mustard scam, they did it to me as well, but as they tried to pick my pockets they got nothing since I keep my cel and money in my cashbelt under my shirt.

They got a handful of receipts and like a couple of loose coins.

The reason I love it is because it seems like a scam from like the 1950s, it's so innocuous.
>>
Why do you guys love SEA so much?

Hamas don't care about Westerners per se. I met some in Jordan at a hotel (they admitted later they were Hamas members in town for a 'meeting', kek). Their beef is with Israel, although I'm sure they don't view secular capitalist degenerate sexualized whiteys like me as the highest of moral fibre. Of course they complained about Jews, Israel and George Satan Bush (prez at the time), and it was a bit tiring listening to their skewed history and conspiracy theories... apart from that, fairly innocuous guys though. Granted they were in their 40s, some kind of banking/finance types. 19-year old suicide bombers are probably unpleasant company.

It's pretty safe. The only religious bigots you're likely to meet are the settlers, not Palestinians. Israelis always tell people it's so dangerous I think a) because it is to THEM because they're Israeli b) they don't want outsiders to actually see how fucked up the settlers are in the West Bank and how in places like Hebron they've basically recreated a European Jewish ghetto from the 40s for the Palestinians to live in.

got guns pulled on my in turkey for wandering onto a bridge that you wern't meant to walk on

thought some czech guy was trying to mug me, turns out he was trying to sell me a gun

actually a lot of crazy shit in czechland, homeless knife fights, some guy got into a post box to steal letters and this old guy caught his legs in it so he was stuck upsidown and started hitting the mailbox with this guy in it

got really lost in some kind of hood in hungary, hoods gave me directions, turnedoutok.jpg

niggers in paris fronting on me trying to get cash, but it was broad daylight so I told the guys to get fucked (in the internatioal language)

Most of them know they're conspicuous as shit in Tokyo so they try to keep everything as low key as possible. It's not like the Yakuza where they're part of the culture and an establishment entity and there's an unspoken agreement between them and the police to tolerate certain things. The Nigerians know the police will not hesitate to kick them out of Japan if they fuck up badly in plain sight.

I saw cops fighting these big black nigs in Paris at 3AM, me and my brother thought it was a good idea apparently to walk around at night in paris. They pepper sprayed the black guys and cuffed them up.

Then we had a women run at us crying and told us she got mugged, wanted help, could have been a scam who knows. Hate paris, hate blacks, hate muslims.

Friend and I "scamed" a shell gamer in Berlin. We asked him if he can change a 500 euro bill in order to play with him, then we wanted to undo it, but kept a lot of the 50 euro bills. He soon noticed it and screamed some shit while trying to chase us but the fat gypsy pig was just way to slow. Feels pretty good.

Probably while working a stint on Corsica

>3AM at the beach
>drinking beer and talking shit with a coworker
>some guy with only shorts on comes up to us
>tattooed all over the body, several tattoos marking him as one of the Independence Fighters
For those of you who don't know, these guys are NOT to be fucked with. Muslims and gypsies can go the fuck home, you DON'T mess with a Corsican Independence Fighters.
>he asks us for cash
>tells him we don't have any
>offers him a beer
>he seems okay with that
>sits down a drinks for a while
>informs us of this party "just down the beach" that we should check out
>can see no lights or hear no music down there
>no thanks brah
>he says okay and continues down towards where he pointed
>me and friend sit still for 5 minutes making sure he's gone before bolting back to the resort

Thank god I'm out of that shithole.

not me, but my friend got attacked by two wild dogs in thailand. He ended up getting a rabies shot.

That's your fault for being a dumbass and not securing the price BEFORE you get in the taxi.

You don't just jump in a cab and say, "yo home to Bel-Air!" and expect it's going to be a reasonable fee when you get there, especially if they don't have a meter on and running.

Technically when I was in the army, got into a few firefights

But when it comes to traveling abroad for pleasure I don't have much to tell. I think the most dangerous situation I was in was when I was hanging out with 2 girls at some backpacker club and they wanted me to play bodyguard with them for the night- basically just dance with them and keep other guys off/away from them. At one point we were kind of surrounded by a bunch of drunken locals and I had to get firm with one who kept trying to rub up against one of the girls, but nothing came of it and I managed to kind of dance us out of the circle. It was kind of cool to be the "protector" or whatever for the night though, I made 2 friends and it was flattering that they wanted to dance with me only and have me keep other men away. I didn't get laid or anything but I still had a good time.

I was traveling last year with a group of missionaries in various countries and ended up in Mexico City where we went into the inner-city areas in order to minister to prostitutes and sex slaves. We were warned ahead of time that dirty police officers will arrest us if they thought we were interrupting the business and to try and avoid pimps at all costs.
Well, anyway, at some point or another me and one other are talking with a group of two women, one of whom is acting strangely. It takes us a minute to figure out that this unusual women is a pimp, so we head on out of there quick as we can. But by that time, other guys had already been told about us and we were literally chased down by two guys in this crowded MC market. We lost them by darting around a corner and doubling back.
That's probably the most dangerous thing that's happened to me. Missionary work tends to get dodgy.

I got lost in rural western Zambia with my pastors cousin's cousin and we ended up staying there without our buddies knowing we hadn't left for Malawi for a week.

In was some of the chillest time I've spent on the earth trying to speak Lozi and watching mud huts being built

Me and my girlfriend had a 2 day, 1 night tour of Jordan; we had the option of either staying in a Bedouin camp of go to a hotel. Out of our group my girlfriend was the only one who wanted to stay in a hotel, so I have to go with her.

I thought it would've been our driver who took us but some random Bedouin guy took us in some beat-up jeep with no seat belts. We drove 45 minutes on a bumpy as fuck road in the Jordanian desert at 1 in the morning. The driver was speaking in Arabic on the phone which was also very unnerving. I just thought my gf was going to getting raped and both killed and buried in the desert; I looked at my gf and she was just smiling away like that this wasn't a stupid thing to do.

We got there alright in the end though.

I met several people who got mugged in Colombia. The general impression I get is that they leave as soon as they get your stuff, but won't hesitate to kill you if you try resisting. They're professional criminals or drug addicts, mostly, not Clockwork Orange-tier murderers - they want to be in and out as quickly as possible.
>>
>>1102291
Not in my experience.
>>
>>1102395
Most muggers the world over are like that, which is why every martial artist will tell you that if you're getting mugged, just give your shit up. Even if you're a super quadruple diamond edition blackbelt in every martial art today, you should still just give your shit up. A wallet and a phone is not worth risking your life over.

Arab or not, if taking a drive in the night with some unknown guy in an unknown country with your girlfriend with you doesn't unnerve you, you're either incredibly naive or should get away from behind your keyboard.
>>
>that feel when you're the most dangerous thug abroad
I went to France for eight months when I was in university to improve my French. I was staying in Trets, in Provence (very close to Marseille). While I didn't straight up rob anybody, I did "intimidate" a couple of french faggots into buying me a free meal.

>Arab or not, if taking a drive in the night with some unknown guy in an unknown country with your girlfriend with you doesn't unnerve you, you're either incredibly naive or should get away from behind your keyboard.

You mean like any taxi ride in another country? Yeah, soooo scary.

I've been in the exact situation you were in and it's 100% fine. Literally the exact same situation. In Jordan, jeep with no doors, driving through Wadi Rum, guy calling people while driving. I wasn't going to a hotel, but otherwise the same. It's very obviously completely fine ESPECIALLY if this is someone tasked with bringing you to your hotel.

You were unnerved that an Arab guy was speaking Arabic on the phone in an Arab country.

Honestly man, you seem extremely sheltered.

>Hitchhike from Bastia to Corte (was planning to take a bus from Corte to Vizzavona after)

>They don't say a thing
>Walking away doesn't seem like a good idea
>S-start talking to them in Italian
>Wide grins
>Start slowly talking in Corsican to me
>Get into their car
>They're supposed to go to their village, 40 kms away from Corte
>"Where are you going, anon?"
>"Corte, I'm taking a bus to Vizzavona there"
>"Oh, we'll drive you to Vizzavona, it isn't that far"
>imokaywiththat.jpg
>Driving along a winding mountain road
>They pull into a small, very steep, unhardened mountain street, seemingly leading nowhere
>"Don't worry anon, we're just taking a small detour"
>ohshit
>We stop at a T-crossing, there's fuck-all to see or do here
>Driver stops the engine, his pal clicks open the dashboard
>Pulls out a gun
>Jesus, Mary and mine, I'm not ready to die
>Gets out of the car
>Wait for him to turn around and point it at my face
>He walks up to the road signs at the crossing
>Unloads a couple of blasts into the French names on the signs
>Gets back into the car like nothing happened
>They laugh when they see I've whitened up a bit
>Buy them a couple of beers in Vizzavona when we get there

Nothing happened, but a friend of mine got beat up pretty badly by two of them when he was partying on a beach somewhere.

I wasn't the guy you were responding to, but I almost got robbed in a situation like that. So I tend to be careful in a car driven by a stranger.

One of my travel guidelines is always be able to either throttle the taxi driver with his seat belt or punch him in the throat.
