Has anyone here tried one of these free volunteer type programs such as Workaway? I'm considering a gap year after graduation and it seems like an enjoyable way to try out life abroad.

How is it?

Not anymore. How about we keep on going here?

I've been looking at the hosts and stuff and it really seems like now is the time to start asking for positions for the summer. Anybody here has any personal experiences to share, any tips on when to ask for and what kind of hosts to ask? Any information really would be nice.

What I'm planning for now is to go to South Korea for at least a month in the summer, working at a hostel propably. Seems like a nice way to spend a bit more time for less money in a country.

I was thinking about volunteering through this site too but I was wondering how much I should budget for a long term trip. Would I be paying the host for the opportunity to volunteer at whatever their establishment is or would they give me something to live off of as long as I'm there? I'm sure it would vary from opportunity to opportunity but I wanted to know the general rule for this type of thing.

So it's a complete scam then, not just kind of.

I think they mean you have to pay to sign up to the website.

The most shitty type of volunteering is where you need to pay for that, like what the fuck? They want me to pay AND work for free ?
If you want one ask in church, may sounds funny but catholic volunteering actually dont want any money from you, pay for your tickets AND pay you a small amount of money for small things.
