I haven't watched the second half of season 4 yet--when my landlord canceled my apartment's wifi over a personal dispute, it sort of put a damper on my Netflix bingeing--and haven't seen any of season 5, but S4 was markedly improved over season 3. I think so. The only time that it really lapsed in quality was season 3. I feel that some of the new episodes have been some of the best in the series so far, but they will never have the nostalgic value that season 1 has for me.

Hard to say. I feel that it's general dynamic has shifted, but the rose-tinted glasses effect is definitely in full force here. I wouldn't say it has gotten worse, but it has changed. The focus of the board has shifted from miscellaneous threads to being comprised almost entirely of fanfiction and generals. This makes it harder for the average poster to become involved, which many users view as a problem. There are very few threads that you can just drop by and post in without having to read several pages of greentext. It makes some posters feel distant. This is why /trash/ has an old /mlp/ vibe to it, it's easy to just stop by and post, or take in small pieces of content instead of forcing the user to be engrossed in the development of lengthy greentext stories. I've really been enjoying being able to contribute to small topics like this on a regular basis, instead of refreshing the page waiting for the story I'm following to update.
EQG never needed to grow on me, i always liked it.

Not that I'm begging for the return of daily IWTCIRD threads shitting things up, but I got a little tired of the place around the beginning of this year, to the point where the only posts I made were to trash-talk shortskirtsandexplosions in the FiMfiction thread and smug anime girl bait for people who bought into the EqG hate meme. It appears to be improving though. Might have just been a particularly bad break between seasons.

However, more than half have any interest in equestria girls- this one is interesting because the current /mlp/ seems to be overwhelming positive about equestria girls

.....Yeah, actually. Its still got its moments and I still can enjoy it despite anything I have against Twicorn. The other characters (Rarity/Dash in particular) are actually showing more graceful progression towards their own dreams and goals and there are still good moral lessons there.

S1 = lets take it easy and ease the viewers into the world and the characters
S2 = lets have our mane cast interact with the towns folk and show more of how Equestria works
S3 = this is the final season, so lets throw a bunch of stuff at the viewers and hope it sticks
S4 = well shit, we have to do more eps now, but no real clue what to do with Twilicorn
S5 = lets get back to basics and follow the formulas of the first two seasons
