Depends on whether or not the male in question is of the human-like egg group. If so, then yes, the child will be the same species as the mother, most likely because the "egg" is being developed within the female. Works the other way around too, so if a male human breeds with a female human-like egg group Pokemon, the child will be the same species as the mother.
If the Pokemon is not from the human-like egg group, no child will be produced, much like when a dog breeds with a cat. They simply do not have the same number of chromosomes which can result in fertilization.
