There are some truly awful later episodes where they ratchet up his assholishness to 11 like The Saint and The Society, but there are some good ones. I liked The Upgrade which was basically him helping Bobert just because they're friends and The Shell is pretty good for what it is. The show was always extremely hit or miss. Televised shows nowadays rarely have fluid animation, only because of the mass produced nature of it (even the Irish animators of Gumball were 4 episodes short by deadline, hence 36 instead of 40 episodes and getting sacked). There are many individual animators who can make animation better than Gumball, but not on that scale with those restraints.

The Curse, The Goons, The Secret, The Picnic, The Helmet, The Genius, The Club, The Gi...the comics are about as bad, though not canon.
The only time it was done well was in The Meddler.

There's rarely continuity episode to episode, not a great argument.

Yeah, I wrote that poorly. I meant that in those other examples of extreme slapstick, the characters are not sympathetic or likable (except maybe Tom, and look at all the hate Jerry gets). Gumball in season one was not an unlikable character, yet got a lot of garbo dumped on him. I didn't find it funny at all.
Later when he was more jerky the occasional slapstick sequence didn't feel out of place. Even something like >>4064662 is balanced off by Gumball previously smashing Anais's face to a bruised pulp in the previous scene, so makes it less "everybody shits on Gumball" and more "this is a slapstick-y show where everybody gives and takes," which improves the humor imo.
I still like Gumball in seasons 3 and 4. The shell, burden, upgrade, comic, fan, parasite...I'm going to list them all, but he's not always a screaming asshole like in the worst later episodes (the fucking society, or saint, for example)

I see that in the show, but I see it more as a "cycle of violence" effect; I would call S2 Gumball a bad person, even if it's a justified mental progression. I simply don't enjoy watching the main character just being a dick to people.

I knew the song straight off, but the cannons still caught me by surprise. Fucking gold.
So I watched one episode of this show like a year or two ago, should I try to watch the rest? What could I look forward too besides milf catmom?

Depends what you enjoy. Note that Season 1 is drastically different from the rest.
S1: Optimisitic but silly Blueballs and Legfish go on adventures. Yay! Gumball tends to get hurt or fail a lot; British slapstick humour. Lots of cute family moments.
S2 onward: Gumball is now a teenager who doesn't take shit from anybody! Almost a reversal of the first season; downgraded animation but better plot writing. Everyone gets a backstory. More American humor, with pop culture $wagfag references.
I personally only enjoy the first season, but I am the minority. Someone else might give a better summary of the rest of the show.

I remember being impressed that, at the end when everything was fucked in a post apocalypse, there was a joke about a pizza being 900 dollars because of inflation and the worthlessness of currency because of said apocalypse. I thought that was a very intelligent joke for a kid's show. Other then that I remember nothing.

I get a feeling people who would come into a Gumball abuse thread are a different sort than who'd go into the Nicole fap thread, which acted like a containment thread for this one.
Just going from the little I know of people who are willing to draw or discuss the "Gumbuse" stuff, they're usually older (Gara is in his mid 30s I think, there've been posters who compare gumbuse to their past childhood experience years ago) and the topic isn't as fapbaity as typical Gumball threads (unless you have an abuse fetish).
