You're missing the point. No cycle is perfect, there's always some loss, all systems tend towards maximum entropy, etc. Humans will just take longer to fuck things up for good. But the Gems are the only one of the two that COULD theoretically keep on going forever because they've been shown to essentially generate energy.
If Gems keep killing each other, they'll eventually die off. If humans keep killing each other, they'll also die off but take longer. If humans stop killing each other they'll still die off. If Gems stop killing each other, they can actually live forever. They are objectively more efficient as a species.
