It is pretty pointless. But someone collected a mass of reviews from different sites that thought the show might touch on a crush on Peridot's part or even romance. That ascertains the teasing was pretty damn heavy and not just shipper imagination, only reason I know about this

Because they've already shown us a budding (and not necessarily romantic) Peridot/Amethyst relationship even past Too Far, they can afford to make an episode that doesn't involve teasing without implying that there will never be anything between them again
And it's not like we even know what Too Short to Ride will be about, we just know Peridot and Amethyst will be in it. It could easily be about Peridot's relationship with Steven, or whichever other characters will appear in the episode

This isn't how other gems act, Pearl and Garnet very clearly felt love. Real love.
Hell, her lines in Lion 3: Straight to Video combined with the lyrics of Love Like You imply she basically created Steven Because she wanted to be able to experience the feeling of love by being a permanent part of someone who could.
I mean, she commited suicide by pregnancy knowing fully well her son, her husband and her team would suffer. You can't really say she doesn't have empathy issues
