Haha, naw; I don't have a Tumblr, and from the beginning I've been aiming to keep this story to be about the stuff going on in its own setting, rather than using it as an analogue for modern day sociopolitical messages.
The society the comic takes place in isn't aware that lead is a bad thing to make dinnerware out of, have pretty much no concept of womens'/workers'/human/etc rights, still toil under monarchies and such. But the story's not about that, so rather than being about recognizing and advancing social rights/issues, everyone just goes "welp, that's life," and focuses on day to day life.
And the yinglets are more of a "lookit these weird dumb little things," definitely not "They're so much better than humans, right guys??" They're actually kind of an attempt to remind the readers how nice it is to be a human.

But in the chapter where Poppy meets Kit, Kit finds the vial of God's Blood in her vault. She needs that to further her research for a cure.
Some time between this and the most recent chapter, Arthur the mafia boss has obviously contacted Kit and made deals with her to give her a supply of God's Blood - such as him being made Prime Minister.
The fact that she allowed the bell to be turned off right as the dragon with the glove was coming is suspicious. The fact that Valente and Octopussy happened to be 'close by', close enough to arrive before the actual dragon hunters were able to engage, is even more suspicious.
TL;DR
Kit needs God's Blood. Bird Mafia offers to supply it, but makes demands. Bell turned off was one of those demands.

And it's OK. The art is thoroughly mediocre for modern webcomic standards, though the creature design is up to snuff. Landscapes, humans, etc. not so much. Most people are probably in it for the writing and the characters, both of which are better than you'd expect for a comic like this. And so far almost every page has had a point of some sort. I'm a stickler for pacing in webcomics, so part of the draw for me is having a new webcomic that's actually FUCKING GOING SOMEWHERE.
One of the last comics I read that didn't have a big backlog managed to make its last update the one where the story was finally getting started. Spent all its run on the main cast bumbling about on a space station. Which sucks, because it had two things I value immensely in webcomics: Great art, and a sexy catgirl.
When you get down to it, OOP has a lot of funny character interaction between cute monsterpeople, and that's its main draw. And it works for me.
