>Gideon Grey was working the counter at his pastry shop, not that anyone was coming in
>Rain had a way of doing that
>Travis was out buying ingredients, from the Hopps farm no doubt. He would probably be gone for a couple of hours.
>Gideon sighed as he wiped down the counter for the 12th time in the last hour. It wasn't dirty, he was just really bored.
>He usually enjoyed rainy days at work, they were comfy.
>However, it had been raining for a week, and a lot of his delicious pies were beginning to get stale.
>It really broke Gideon's heart to throw away food that nobody bought, especially in bulk.
>He went into the back kitchen. Might as well check inventory.
>As he was beginning to count granny smith apples, the bell on the front door rang.
>He perked up, and grinned. Finally, he had a customer.

Spiderwolf, Spiderwolf,
Does whatever a spider would
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiderwolf.
Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread
Take a look overhead
Hey, there
There goes the Spiderwolf.
In the chill of night
At the scene of a crime
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time.
Spiderwolf, Spiderwolf
Friendly neighborhood Spiderwolf
Wealth and fame
He's ignored
Action is his reward.
To him, life is a great big bang up
Wherever there's a hang up
You'll find the Spider wolf.
It requires a surprisingly little amount of changes

There's some new content as well as some technical changes that I think really improve the overall tone and flow of the story, and I think it's worth a re-read. If you have read it before, lemme know if you think it's better or worse than before. If you haven't, I hope you enjoy it.
Also a quick shill for Mead, who made me this fantastic art and got me a pretty ludicrous amount of traffic by shilling me on his tumblr. Go look at his stuff and give him notes or something. Those are like (You)s, right? http://mistermead.tumblr.com/

The more I think about Martin/Martina the sadder it gets.
I don't think this is about being gay or some sort of trans. I think this is just really shitty ideas of gender roles. Because of how he was brought up, Martin thinks men are brash and loud and argumentative and violent, and women are soft and kind and reasonable and peacemakers. So he thinks that there's no way for him to express his softer side without betraying his gender identity, so he invented Martina to express those feelings through.

>It's a beautiful Sunday afternoon over Zootopia
>the sky is pink and orange, the breeze is cool, and everyone is relaxing at home
>Everyone that is, except for two meddlesome foxes, who had elected to spend it in the back of their van.
>Nick and Finnick had left the back doors open to let air in, because they didn't want to use the AC
>Finnick was nursing a very large cigar, and Nick was shuffling a deck of cards; the kind of cards with naked fox ladies on them.
>Both of them had had a few beers each
>"Ey Finn, you want to do anything today?" asked Nick half-assedly
>"Nah, not really" replied Finnick in a puff of tobacco smoke.
>"Ah c'mon, why not?"
>"I just don't"
>"Aw, c'mon man I'm hungry. Let's go get something to eat. You hungry?
>"No"
>"I'm really in the mood for a bugga burga, how bout chu?"
>"I said I'm not hungry Nick"
>"Let's go get some burgas"
>Nick was crawling towards the driver's seat and reaching for the keys in the ignition
>"Dammit Nick I said NO" shouted Finnick as he hopped to his feet and jumped on Nick's back, collapsing him to the floor
>"Ugh fine, you're no fun little dude" protested Nick
>"I really just feel like staying here and doing nothing. You ever done that Nick? Nothing? You should try it sometime, like right now"
>"Finny, buddy, c'mon, we've been doing nothing all weekend."
>"So?"
>"Soooo, let's do something, anything. Hey! I know, let's pack a bowl! Let's get toasted!"
>"We're all out of bud, dumbass. SOMEbody smoked it all" Finnick blew a cloud of smoke in Nick's face.
>"How about swimming? It's a hot day, it'd feel real niiiice!" Nick made some swimming motions with his arms.
>"Look, I'd really rather just sit here and talk. Is that enough for you? Just talking?"
>"Well what do you wanna talk about?"
>"How bout that girl of yours, what's her name again?"
>"Oh...Judy, she's not my girl, I just work with her is all."

>Anything in particular got you sunk?
Nah, I just have a lot of ideas bouncing around in my head and none of them are turning out the way I want them to.
I think it's all a lot of mental stuff. The thread's been on a huge kick about "good contenfags" versus "bad contentfags" (or at least a few shitters have been) so I think I'm just mentally comparing myself to writers I admire within this fandom instead of having my own agency.
AKA reasons why I tried to avoid reading other writers' work.

>Gideon retied his apron and readjusted his bangs as he walked back into the dining area.
>His customer was a very large cheetah in a police uniform. He was soaking wet.
>"Bad weather huh?" said Gideon
>"Ugh, yeeup. You can say that again" replied the cheetah.
>"What can I do for ya today"
>"Well I was just driving through town when I was suddenly hit by a massive snack attack"
>"You came to the right place! What can I get for you?"
>"Hmmmm, what have you got that's good?"
>"Oh it's all very good! We have pies and cakes and donuts and eclairs and bear claws and...."
>"Did you say donuts?" interrupted the cheetah excitedly.
>"Oh...why yes, we have a wide selection of donuts here. Would you like to see a menu?"
>"Would I ever!!!"
>Gideon reached under the counter and grabbed a copy of the menu, then handed it to his eager customer.
>This could be really good. This guy looked like he could eat just about everything in the shop and still ask for seconds. Perhaps he wouldn't have to throw away anything after all.
>"So what's your name friend" asked Gideon kindly.
>"Me? I'm officer Benjamin Clawhauser"
>"You work for the ZPD?"
>"That's right!"
>"What are you doing all the way out here?"
>"Oh, there was some sort of special case out here that they wanted me to look into. I'm not really sure why they sent me and not someone like Officer Hopps. I mean she's actually from around here."
>"I know her!" said Gideon with a spark in his voice "We sort of....grew up together"
>O M Goodness isn't that something! Isn't she just the best?!"
>"Yeah she's....she's great" Gideon once again felt great remorse for his childhood.
>"So, you see anything on that menu that catchers your eye friend?"

That sounds really, really rough-- making content creation a contest would really dampen a lot of people's spirits to contribute.
Have you been reading stuff outside of these threads? Might be a good way to find ideas and inspiration beyond what people are doing now.

Hey, Comic.
I got something I hesitate to call Chapter Three done of Savage. I dunno whether it's my general self-loathing, the recent bitchfight over creators, or the subject matter, but something about this doesn't feel right.

Don't worry. Post your stuff, if it's good, people will praise it; if it's bad, people will try and fix it; if it doesn't hit their fetishes or ideas, people will ignore it.

I'm not comic
but I am erect.
The way it ends makes me think there's going to be more to it, or a chapter 4. is that correct?
>>3730401
I think it was based on the 22 Jump Street scene parody.
>>3730510
There is indeed. One of my big hangups is whether I should leave the chapter break where it is, or push it further back to explain why he's suddenly acting out of character.
>mfw an 800 word short I threw together in less than 2 hours gets more praise than the 20,000+ word story I actually put serious time, thought and effort into
I mean, hey, that's great that folks dug the short and all, but for me it was the equivalent of a microwave hotpocket, while the other one was an actual meal I worked hard to prepare.
>>3730533
That depends on how long you plan to make us wait for another chapter.
I am glad to hear you do have an explanation for why he's OOC. You might want to explain that before the chapter break just so it doesn't reflect poorly on your writing, imo.
>>3730547
>impatient and lazy people run to a short story and read it instead of actually investing time in longer stories

>>3730547
Investing the time into reading a 20k word fic is something a lot of people just won't do. Short fics are also much less of a gamble - if they do suck, they're over that much faster. I'm sure the people who did read through the longer fic appreciated the "meal," but most people just want snacks.

Protip: Just because you spent more time working on it doesn't mean it's inherently better.
(haven't read either, but you know, as a general rule)
>>3730663
Bite the bullet, Anon. Don't think of it as wanting attention, think of it as raising awareness. You can't get better if you don't get feedback, and you can't get feedback if no one reads it.
>>3730639
You're just becoming self-aware.
This is a good thing.

How did you--
I'm gonna start checking my apartment for peep-holes, anon...
But yes-ish. I was more thinking of To Be Gentle, the other one I whipped up yesterday.
And while the kudos are snazzy, I was kinda hoping it'd draw some new readers to consider my serious stuff.
I think what really put me in a weird funk about it was the fact that the FFN posting of it actually got this really sincere review that had me going "Wow, this guy not only likes it, but had something interesting to say about why it works", which is great and all,but I wish it was directed at the fic that I felt that counted more in the end.

Explain as in using writer's notes? I always felt that was sorta tacky.
And extending it would mean tacking a third lewd scene into the chapter, as well as shifting the focus of the piece too much to my liking. It's already kinda fractured.
>>3730835
I do hope that the audiobook version opens Stoutwell up to a larger audience-- it really, really is super fun and well written.
Leaving to go back home tomorrow, and chapter two is on the top of my list!
>>3730109
More?
>>3730872
I say keep it. The shock of him acting out of character is part of the fun.
Why are they acting this way? What's caused the change. That's something that'll keep them hooked for chapter 4.
Will draw stuff you requested. It won't be good, but hey, it will be stuff you requested

>"I dunno Finn"
>"Nick this isn't some grand theft heist we're talkin about here. We're talkin about love! The worst that could happen for trying is she says no, and that's that, nothing ventured, nothing gained."
>"Nothing ventured? Are you serious? It could ruin our friendship, that's what it could do."
>"Nicky, you're being crazy, that won't happen"
>"Yes it will"
>"No it won't"
>"YES IT WILL, now can we just drop it? Please?"
>"Not until you call her"
>"WHAT? WHY?"
>"Just call her."
>"No, fuck off"
>"If you don't I will"
>"What is that supposed to mean?"
>"It means this" Finnick held up Nick's phone.
>"How did you get that? Give me that!" Nick lunged at Finnick, who hopped out of the way and opened Judy's contact. He selected voice call.
>"DON"T YOU DARE"
>"I already aaaaammm"
>Nick lunged again, but Finnick was too quick.
>"HI, you've reached the voicemail of Judy Hopps! I can't pick up right now but if you leave your name and number I'll be glad to call you back! Thanks!"
>"Hey bunnygirl, It's Finnick, I just wanted to call and tell you that Nick has the hots for you"
>"I"LL FUCKING KILL YOU YOU LITTLE SHIT!!" shouted Nick.
>"OOOh she's gonna hear tha.." Finnick's last word was cut off by a swift motion of Nick's paw to his face.
>The phone fell to the van's floor and Nick grabbed at it in desperation. It was too late, the message was over and sent.
>Nick looked at Finnick and yelled "I'LL KILL YOOOOU"
>The van rocked back and forth as Nick tried to make grabs for Finnicks neck
>Finnick only laughed
>Camera angle backs out of the van and showcases the setting sun.

>That's something that'll keep them hooked for chapter 4.
Not if they're warded off before then
You have to hint that something happened from the very first chapter but never actually show what did happen
It's easy to simply make characters act OoC, and just as easy to dismiss a "twist" story as being that.

>Clawhauser was stuffing the pastries in his mouth faster than he could chew them, and he was making a mess.
>Gideon really didn't mind, he paid for them and he could eat them however he wanted.
>Seeing as he had nothing better to do, he walked over to Clawhauser and asked "You're still awful wet, would you like a towel?"
>"Yeth Pleethh" said Clawhauser through a mouthful of crumbs.
>Gideon pulled out a long handtowel that was hanging from his back pocket and handed in to Clawhauser.
>"Fnnnk You"
>"No problem buddy, just let me know if you need anything else"
>"Well actually..." started Clawhauser
>"Yeah?"

I regret not calling the original short comic with July getting parking duty "the first day", which would make this one seem that much more clever. Back then it was just intended as a oneshot, but this fucking AU keeps giving me a new comic idea every time I go for a run outdoors.
