because to anybody who regularly uses IRC, the fact that it's privately hosted is pertinent information. it means that it's not just a channel on some pre-existing IRC network (which is what's usually the case,) it's its own thing. in other words, it can be assumed that the other sites are on their own private servers due to the nature of them, but with IRC whether or not that's the case is more relevant.
I'm still looking for a better way of wording it though.
