I agree from a realistic standpoint, but it's less nonsense because the writers are dumb and made it that way.
i.e. The writers made Pyrrha like Jaune so Arkos is less nonsense self-insert than other Jaune ships, because no one else would be (or is) interested in him. Within the canon Lancaster/White Knight/Knightshade make less sense than Arkos, because those girls weren't written into liking him.
They are all self-insert shit though.
