I still like her, but all the shit really does pile up on her hard.
It almost feels like she could have been two separate characters. There's the awkward lesbian scientist, and then there's the amoral whackjob doing experiments in the true lab.
And then, one of the characters got cut from the story, and all their stuff fell to Alphys.
Isn't it sad?

Alphys is just anxious as fuck, the pile up of negative results and cringe scenes is a great way to explain her character as those are the types of things that she let's happen to her.
As with all the characters, they're explained in ways that best fit their personalities.
