I don't think Jon was ever really happy with how overwhelmingly distracting Game Grumps was and it was probably a factor for why he left.
He was improving for a little bit after, slowly but surely, but then Starcade came and blew a wrecking ball through that.
And, speaking from experience, it can be hard to break scheduling habits like that. But he does seem to be trying.

Arin's prettymuch the polar opposite of Jon in that regard, he's basically given up that stuff in favor of running Game Grumps.
Which must be pretty profitable for him if he's able to live off of it and even provide jobs for his friends off it. They even refer to him as "head of the company" and "boss" from time to time. But he can't even really be called an animator anymore. Ross is more of an animator than him, because you'll still see him draw shit for Game Grumps from time to time.
Arin basically threw out his artistic creativity in favor of business.
I'm pretty impressed by Dan, though. He does Game Grumps, still runs Ninja Sex Party just as frequently as he did before he signed on, and writes the songs for the Star Bomb albums. From what I can grasp from the rest of the grumps talking about him he is just firing on all cylinders 100% of the time, and is apparently a driving force in productivity.
You can even see it in videos, when Arin will want to quit and Dan will keep pressing on him to accomplish or do something.
Dan's a pretty cool guy.
I kinda wish I could see him and Jon collaborate on something. I feel like that could result in something pretty cool.

I have not exactly loved the last couple Jontron videos, the last one I really liked was the bootleg games one. I wish he was still doing something similar to GG, cause I'm pretty much addicted to it.
Don't misunderstand, the gameplay is TERRIBLE 90% of the time, it's just very entertaining background noise for me. Dan is a sweet human being and it's too much fun to hear Arin make a fool of himself and get mad/frustrated to miss it. And I don't mean in a demeaning way or something, Arin Hanson would make a very good clown. It's pretty entertaining.

Those are not really similar at all, though.
One is Jon making up a new companion which is really just a rock with a face drawn on it and the joke is that it's just a rock with a face on it.
The other is a joke about badly ripped-off versions of things.
Though I do notice that there's way more elaborate cutaway/prop jokes now, yes. It's because he's got that Disney money, so he's free to do whatever he wants in terms of props/scenery.

Its more of the same, but more of more of the same, if that makes sense. A while back I recall Jon saying that money he gets from doing the show is being put back into the show, allowing for more propwork and elaborate bits.
Personally I'm not a fan of him branching into movie reviews, and I will say some of his older works feels like he gives a more 'complete' view of a specific game or topic he's covering, but that's my own opinion. I get the feeling Jon still likes doing what he does but I do agree it feels like it might be shifting a bit too far away from what got him his initial fame, what made his older videos stand out.

My problem with recent Jontron has been the fucking abandoned tv studio set he's using now. I guess with that the whole feel of the thing became really off to me. It became a falied Tim&Eric segment than a guy playing games in his house.
