In my experience, in threads like these, the Discord is usually flocked to by the C-List content creators, really lazy writefags who throw out a paragraph and call it a chapter, and a whole group of people who want an identity but don't actually want to put in the work to be worth knowing. They'll swarm the Discord/Skype/IRC, circlejerk about how they're so much more worthy than all the contentfags the thread currently idolizes, and eventually grow such discontent they start taking random/anonymous potshots whenever possible, high-fiving outside the board and praying one day they'll take the place of the pedestal-high drawfags and writefags they hate with such passion.
Sure, some big names will join in, usually because they don't know better and are genuine people, or just like socializing/are that eager about the topic, but most people will be people full of spite and envy, dreaming of recognition.
This is the way of things in every thread I've ever seen an outside chat crop up for.
