I'm surprised there isn't more of a play on having pokemon characters TFed via the evolution thing. There's even mention in the show that evolution can lead to personality changes (like Ash's charmander). I mean... that's got the potential for lots of fetish-fuel.

The merging of the pilot and suit only occurs if they're not wearing protective gear, from the sounds of it. None of the suits are directly intended to be permanent, they're just built in such a way that it's very easy for it to happen by "accident" or, in the case of the draft model, as a result of prolonged usage.

The setting that's detailed so far has a lot of room for cyberpunk-ish stories of people getting screwed by a system that, at best, is indifferent to the individual and, at worst, is actively designed to keep the average joe under control and the well-connected elite at the top, and then trying to find some personal fulfilment/revenge/redemption in the aftermath.
Or just people being forced into suits that transform them and/or mess with their minds in a sexy manner.

I like to think the suit's programming isn't really hard mind wiping or brainwashing. The transformee still has their personality but they are inclined to act in certain ways. Also I don't think that transformed people have any issue returning to their normal life after merging with the suit. It seems like transforming common occurrence so people are probably accustomed to having pilot friends return from work as their suits.
