Pretty much all the Star Fox characters outside of Fox and Peppy are pretty shallow anyways, and any development they receive is from comics and the like. If you don't like that Dinosaur Planet became Adventures, fine, but that doesn't make Krystal any less of a character that exists in the canon of Star Fox. If you think its impossible to do any good with her as a character, we're open to ideas. I don't think you'll be so lucky to get her written out. If you want good characters, you're in the wrong series. SF characters are shallow as hell. It doesn't take much to make good characterization for anyone in SF, but the second you put some serious development into it, you'll run into drama (that thing everyone fucking bitches about in SF) in some form or another.

My ideal Star Fox game would basically be Assault except bigger, better and with online multiplayer. I liked the direction it was going in and I'm disappointed that they didn't follow it up quickly with another Namco developed game in the same vein.
Star Fox is one of the black sheep in Nintendo's flock. They were perfectly content to rehash other series into oblivion like "New" Super Mario Bros, but with Star Fox they don't allow new games to be made unless they can reinvent the series in some way. That unfortunately also means the fandom is very carved up and divided, since none of the games are very similar to each other.
Hell, with F-Zero Miyamoto basically said "F-Zero GX was pretty much perfect so we won't make another one unless we can find a new control gimmick." If it's not a series that prints money like Mario or Pokemon, Nintendo has no interest in doing iterative improvements even if it's to add something fundamental like online play that wasn't in the last version.

It tried to be arcade-y like how the series plays out, but it shoots itself in the foot in that regard. Personally I think it COULD be the perfect SF game, but they need to take another crack at it. I think they should fix the control scheme, maybe go over the shoulder TPS, speed up air combat, add more chaos to fights, make the squadmates worth something, and add more the team SF even if its just guests. Really going to a huge ass battle field with a squad of 4 feels kinda lame to me. 6 or more allies would be my ideal on how large field skirmishes should be.

Let me clarify; I love Nintendo, and I probably never would have played it if it never came to the GameCube, but I would have much preferred had Miyamoto just let Rare do their thing. As a new IP, Dinosaur Planet would have held much more weight as its own original story than it did as a Star Fox title, and probably would have the same nostalgic popularity of Sly Cooper, Sly Bandicoot, and perhaps even Banjo Kazooie.
Then they had to gut the story to suit Nintendo's "rare, make a starfox game pref," and then had to destroy what little gameplay remained so that it could be finished before the Microsoft buyout.
I liked Starfox Adventure, but I feel like Dinosaur Planet would have been much more interesting. Seriously though, look up what Adventures was supposed to be.

These are the things people say in war, again, it's not me looking for edginess, but let's face it, even a goofy game about war like Starfox, is a game that includes the threat of death. Or, at least SHOULD, it makes sense. Not only does it make sense, but it makes the payoff more satisfying for the player. Some fanatical family member of Andross? Axe him. The guy who betrayed your father and attempts to misdirect you with emotions? Axe him. Wolf, someone who truly gave off the feel of threat and is clear has every intention to kill you. Axe him. And Leon is just insane, both games, he's insane lol, kill him b4 he kills u.
They even died better, and what's cool is in the grand scheme of things you never really knew if they survived or not, sure they come back once but after that then what?
Games where there is no real threat feel empty, it feels like you accomplished nothing. You can have edge without it being forced and "edgy" and I believe a warzone obviously has edge to it.

The writing wasn't the best in SF64 or any game at the time, it didn't need to be, it's one piece of the puzzle. I'm not being an asshole here I dropped the schtick lol, I honestly want to help show people why SF64 is forever immortalized as a classic and the lines were memorable even before memes were a thing. Whereas assault, while more new and improved features and dialogue and interaction, feels empty, and the ratings reflect it. Sure, lot of it has to do with opinion, and some of it has to do with nostalgia, but there's a reason the game feels hollow to people.

You know, the average rating from any site that polls including metacritic. Course everything balances out, and it's not cool to hate anything after 64, I'm legit sad no real Star Fox game has followed. Assault was a step in the right direction, but again, it was hollow, lacked tension, the ground portions were buttfucking horrid and broke up the flow of the game, etc.
I wanted it to be the awesome sequel SF64 deserved, but it just wasn't, not a terrible game but it's just average, like Adventures.
