I always liked the dragons can talk to you in your head idea, that was pretty neat. Like they can't read your thoughts or anything, but they're magical and can't talk, so mind-conversation is the best alternative.
So human intelligence, or better due to being alive for a long time, with thought-talk.
I have a strong preference towards intelligent, but as long as they are designed well enough, I don't really mind.

Even 50 could be considered a baby by dragon standards. You might be swinging swords and such before baby dragons could, but developmentally, it could easily just place you at the age of dragon you'd be at your age.

That said, I never got around to completing the original game. In one playthrough I beat Biggie Smalls solo and got the Lordvessel and stopped around there, and in another I rolled Pyromancer and blazed through the first bit of the game, I think that one should be up to Sen's Fortress or Anal Rodeo? God I hated the sheer amount of players who invaded, can't go through it without someone popping up
Went with that Chaos covenant in both for the sake of saving Solaire later, though I do owe myself to getting into the dragon one sometime.

If you do it right you don't need them to save him. Something about not talking to him, I did it once by accident. You leave him earlier in the game, Anor Londo or sooner w/o talking to him and go kill the bugs, then go back. I don't know exactly but a quick google shows other people have done it.
Knowing where to find every dragon scale will seriously reduce the annoying farming though.

In both situations, we'll assume we're talking about a feral-like dragon who passes the Harkness test, and that the species is determined by the mother. Going by this chart, both parties are totally compatible. If the dragon is anthropomorphic, then these scenarios become much more mundane. But at least genitalia sizes won't be as much of a problem.
If you want to impregnate a dragon, that means your children will also have human genes so take that as you will. If you're in marriage, you'll probably want a pretty good job to help pay expenses. She's probably a big spender.
If instead you get impregnated by a dragon, that assumes you've turned into a female or even transformed into a dragoness. If the former, you'll likely give birth to children with superior genes, and it'll be extremely painful during that. If the latter, you'll be laying and sitting on eggs for a while. But at least you have someone to look after you while you do.
Honestly, getting impregnated doesn't sound too bad as you also get to experience a female orgasm yourself. That's kinda hot.
