Sorry, Peng. You did try.
Peng uncharacteristically is not putting up much fuss about following your commands. Your weapon snaps into your hand and you grip it, the edge lighting with what you learned offscreen is the color of your aura and you're surprised you haven't mentioned it before.
Anyway, the light blue glow helps your eyes further adjust to the darkness, giving the beast an outline of light as it circles you. It charges into its demise a moment later as you yourself thrust forward, driving Peng directly in the center of the beast's mask. It immediately stops, grabbing your arms, keeping you from moving the blade.
...This might not be good.

You contort your arms around one another, it turns out the Beowolf stopped pressing and was merely stuck in position. You fall to the ground with a soft thud, staring at the creature. It isn't looking at you, hell, it doesn't seem to be there at all.
You snap your fingers in front of it, kick its legs, tug its tail. Nobody home. It should be dissolving if it's dead, right? So what's the deal?
You climb up atop it and withdraw Peng. The grimm's body immediately explodes into smoke around you, causing you to fall on your rump.

'Oh. It's you.' Peng greets you quietly.

We need to ask her what happened and see if she's okay. This seems like a potentially useful weapon against the Grimm, but it might be bad for us and/or Peng in the long run. In any case I think we should see if we can get a hold of a second weapon for non-Peng situations, perhaps something that would compliment P3-N1

You look up to see the ursa you bumped and its... Very large posse.
It slowly looks down at you, shooing you aside like one might move a stray dog.
None of the beasts are acknowledging you for more than a moment. Penny is dead silent as well.
You are now in the middle of a throbbing mass of grimm that you can only assume are encircling the camp.

You hear the scrambling of boots and dirt, hushed voices and then the sounds of weapons being drawn.
"Well... Here we go again." Naise sounds irritable rather than worried.
Well it sounds like they're fine, but you are definitely in a bad spot. You don't even know what you could do to get out from this.
One thing you do know is that if you look deeper into the forest, the sensation in your head grows stronger.

'What are we going to-' You come face to face with a white mask, it's vaguely oval shaped, it even has a nose. The eyes yellow instead of red. It has no real... Head to speak of, the mask is attached to a long neck that bends and loops more like a snake.
Penny finally says something "Don't speak."
The yellow eyes light up for a moment. "Don't speak." It repeats, it heard Penny through your helmet. "Don't speak." It repeats again, the tone now exactly her voice.

"Don't! Don't!" It starts screaming, as if Penny herself were crying from its mask.
The creature snaps back towards you, examining your closed helmet for any kind of expression. It isn't attacking though.
'What. Are. You.' You hear in your head. It sounds like one might give a voice to a shadow. There is no cadence to it. You know it's asking a question, but it doesn't use human mannerisms. At least not here... Wherever here is in your head.

You snap your arm in one motion, stabbing at the grimm's head. A long pointed tendril wraps around your weapon. The head tilts as it grabs hold only to have its tendril suddenly fall off in neat slices.
It lets out a horrible screech. You hear it, the tromping of feet stopping and coming in the opposite direction. The grimm horde is after you now. You know it.
A part of you desperate, another part possibly insane, you rush the grim, swinging as precisely as you can muster at the beast that is scrambling away from you. Despite its size, it doesn't seem confident in a fight since it could not hold your weapon with one of its tendrils. Another one fires out of its body, piercing your armor clear through. Your aura closes the wound for now, you can feel the crackle of energy. You need to watch your head though, your aura can't seem to stop it, only heal what it's done already. This proves to be difficult to do. You feel one of the tendrils that seem to spring from random spots on its body pierce your cheek before you cut it off.
Escape seems impossible knowing what's behind you. Forward equally dangerous, one of those tendrils could hit your head. You're pushing your luck either way and honestly... You don't have time to decide. Another tendril slices across the outside of your head, you feel it cut your ear. Your helmet springing open, the screen destroyed. If it gets a clean shot to the head, you're finished and there's nothing you can do. You can't turn around, you can't stop attacking, it'd be suicide either way.

You don't have an indicator, but healing and attacking at the same time is draining you. You feel it.
If you had to guess, at this rate, you'll gas out in another two minutes. You've gotten enough of a hang of it to slip the tendrils going for your head, but it's still striking the rest of your body with those pin points of tendrils. You guess you're thankful it's not poisonous. Each time it hits your legs, you slow down just enough for it to pull further away. You can't catch it. Every time you get close, it aims for your legs. You know the horde is gaining from behind. You're surely out of range of Brass' help by now. You don't even know how far away you are anymore.
