some of the stuff from the 80's and 90's makes me sad, because it hints at a world that I'll never be able to experience

Meh.

I prefer today's world over the crap that they used to make back then, even if there's a rare gem that's literally over one in a million.

The plastic was better back then though. Articulation was shit unfortunately.

I thought it'd be the other way around. I have a couple g1 transformers, and they're pretty shit quality compared to now.

Are you are retarded 16 y/o with KIDS THESE DAYS AMIRRITE XD?
90s toys had better quality over nowadays shit.
It's alright if you collect anime lolis with no pants i guess - we didn't had japanese toy/figure market back then.

But overall Action Figures had a major level down in quality.

Back in the 90s Jurassic Park toy line had badass bunch of realistic rubber dinosaurs. Nowadays Hasbro shits bad quality Happy Meal toys and happy meal toys stopped being as detailed and complicated as they were few years ago.
And there are many examples like that.

Current year is good for quality collectables and weeb-stuff.
Overall action figures and toys are shit because economy crysis, plastic cost and other society problems.

80s transformers G1 was a first line when that seires just started to exist. During 90s transformers got better.
Also it was a crazy time for toys of all kinds and quality because again - market and cost was different.
Stuff like StreetSharks can survive a tornado and live up to this day still looking shiny and clean.

Sad but true, while the high-end collector's/import market has exploded in output and quality in the last decade, the quality of 'toy' toys has fallen through the fucking floor.

i think only 00s toys are better than 10s toys, but 80s was shit.
90s was a mixed bag.

The only real good thing going for 90s and 80s toys was there was a lot of selection, but who the fuck buys shit like this anymore? Aside from nostalgiafags.

Nah
>90s was a mixed bag.
Like most of decades except 10s that went downhill. 80s was the start of many lines so young lines were not very good at first. However exclusive independed toys that werent a "huge line" were great. 90s was a toy heaven because companies were spending whatever amount of money they wanted on any toy idea they wanted.
>The only real good thing going for 90s and 80s toys was there was a lot of selection, but who the fuck buys shit like this anymore? Aside from nostalgiafags.

Everything i liked from the 80s and 90s was fully realized in the 00s and 10s.
Sure, the selection isn't as high, but it's better than having a mediocre toy and wishing it were better. There's nothing i miss and instead i look forward to future products.

I'm just saying toys today are much better than what they used to produce.
I get that some of you guys like your kitschy shit and I'll call you nostalgiafags over it, but it's just opinions.

Saying things like
>90s toys had better quality over nowadays shit.
Is just crazy, especially when the toys are more durable, more detailed, have more articulation, and more paint apps.

That Big Boa is kind of a bad example of an update resulting in a superior figure..

if you wanna use gi joes old Air Tight vs modern Air Tight is a better example of the new fig blowing the old one out of the water. That new Big Boa looks just as doofy as the old one.

This has nothing to do with why Micro Machines aren't popular anymore. Lots of toys come with smaller objects all the time. The restrictions mostly come from toys made for ages 3 and under.
And like i said, you just had more selection back in the 80s and 90s. The toys aren't anymore quality though... and are actually less.

>>5674457
I sorta agree, but i think it's because it's harder to find those cool gimmicky shit in stores now. Almost all the cool shit now is found on thinkgeek and other online stores.
Of course, most of us look down on them, same way most of us looked down on Tim's toys back in the day.

They're gimmicky trinkets.

Without a doubt, some oldfag will be reviewing lootcrates 50 years from now and kids from then will be looking be saying how cool shit used to be back in the day.

>I wish I could have seen the world before the internet magnified human neuroticism by three thousand degrees
Man, even back in the mid-00s i could only find stuff at conventions that i never heard about online. Nowadays even foreign websites are google-translated to make hard to find toys easier to get.

You can't be serious. Maybe KIDS toys today are more lower quality, especially because there's so much focus on digital stuff now, but fine art action figures and Japanese super poseable stuff.. That's LEAGUES better than any 80's or 90's shit. Even things like Lego have come a long way since the 90's in terms up better and more pieces.

I dunno, some of the new stuff I see is pretty good, though mostly the expensive collector stuff..

Is it even toys if it's over 100$ and made by an action figure company? At that point it becomes manchild fuel (high quality but expensive)

I went to Japan a while ago and got like a shit ton of action figures, they were good quality and price. But if you had a bunch of cash to spare they had some premium shit.

Over all, jap stuff is better.

Although I personally collect toys that are just recreations of characters from fiction I like rather than original toys with gimmicks, it's great to see an old man so genuinely full of wonder and whimsy at the clever things people make and the marvels of human ingenuity in things that most people just dismiss as "simple toys".
