I think that's more Hasbro's calling than IDW. For example, Bumblebee was intended to die back when IDW had that soft-reboot just after All Hail Megatron, the one with the really shitty robot designs, Hasbro gave them a no to that. So Ironhide ended up being wounded. But they at least seem to be loosening and opening up, as Bumblebee was killed off during that one event.
I've never had any version of this mold before, but I won and ebay lot with both hotspots in it. It's actually pretty solid. I like the way all his panels fold up all nice and tidy. His torso's a little thin/shallow, but overall I dig it.

No one cares, but I did some swapping around and I declare this Pyro "good enough".
He can still transform with the forearms swapped, but now his hands work with the mold reversed. The cannon gets in the way of bending his arm, but I'll trim down the back of it to lessen the interference. Now he has kind of a Galvatron-y cannon instead of underslung.

Like mp ironhide they missassembled his shoulders, they look ok in robot mode apart from a slight shift in positioning compared to past seekers, but it won't tab in properly when going into jet mode.
Aside from the odd paint flaw a small section of the wings, like the shoulders is incorrect (what should be left is right), its mostly cosmetic with the only physical problem being when the wings are being handled it may make "crack" sounds.

Decided to mod my CW Blast Off straight outta the box. Shaved and sanded the nose/mouth to make it look like a mouthplate, and used a sharpie paint pen to repaint the black paint that got sanded off. Might paint the "crest" bit black, too to differentiate it more from Slingshot's head.

They've pointed out in the shows and comics before that to a transformer, that's just as natural as us walking and that they do get tired of driving/flying/whatever and get cramped in their altmodes if used for long periods of time. Except a Headmaster little robot turn into head for the big robot. They're not just an accessory for the main robot, they are a vital component of it. Targetmasters get weapons that can be used by the robot that came with, but with any other figure that has the ports to hold them, and the more ports they have the more you can plug onto them.
By comparison, a Powermaster is basically just a Planet key with a robot mode. It's an accessory that has no function beyond unlocking whatever gimmick the actual figure has. It's not as vital to the main robot as the Headmaster, nor does it have the play value of Targetmasters. It's a little dude who doesn't turn into a head, or a gun, or even a little car you can roll around when it's not needed, it turns into a block that you either set off to the side and ignore until you need it or keep it plugged into the figure like a giant robo-tumor.

Since they don't transform the core figure would have a lower parts count and could adhere to the same budget as your average voyager/leader. Maybe it could have a face-change gimmick where you can load up 5 or so titanmasters and rotate between them like Animated Blitzwing?

and as others have pointed out, Krok is an action master, Fulcrum turns in to a bomb and was never meant to survive past transforming in to a bomb the first time and then exploding, and one of the other Scavengers has a phobia of transforming.

I mean, I see where the idea came from, what with him having three modes, but that doesn't really make much sense if you actually think about it for more than a second. Every other Transformer has two modes, but they don't have two personalities, do they? So why does the guy with one extra mode have two extra personalities?
I think Animated Blitzwing should have only had two personalities, losing the "random" one, or keep the random one but give him a fourth alt mode that is just a jumbled clusterfuck.

According to the Almanac it has something to do with Blackarachnia modifying him and it made him insane, he wasn't always a triple changer nor dealing with multiple personalities. Maybe to cope with the 2 faces that never agreed on anything, the 3rd one spawned. (As it did resolve a couple of debates in the series, like how he was arguing whether to be the jet or tank, the insane one chose both.)
Apparently being a triple changer in Animated meant you were going to be driven to insanity. Which bums me out, because that would have been really cool to see on Megatron going insane like Galvatron in the cancelled season where he would be a triple changer.
