Bump limit on the previous thread reached and nearly archived.

I like the head of the Saurornitholestes, but I don't enjoy the paint.

I'll probably go for the Velociraptor and Balaur. Those seem like the two best looking to me.

Tsaagan and Atrociraptor don't really look that good, paint-wise. Especially the weird, sudden brown on Tsaagan.

The guy just announced that there'll be a kickstarter exclusive figure being revealed later this week, that'll be neat.

I'm super happy the Kickstarter is pressing towards success regardless of this, but the line should've considered a gimmick option as one of the KS exclusives like 4H do, or the ninja KS sorta did. If there really was something offbeat like a flamingo raptor or something similarly crazy (that didn't require new tooling), it could do wonders to boost numbers, in much the same way Minotaur the Duck or MURRICA bird did, or the old 4H exclusives of lines past like the cow or pink elephant did. Of course, maybe one of the unrevealed designs is already along these lines.

Still undecided on which raptor I want to get to add-on Saurornitholestes later, only ruled out Tsaagan as an option so far.
>>
>>5649823
>implying this line isn't already a gimmick with offbeat and crazy by giving dinosaurs feathers

>>5649823
the gimmick one will be a featherless version to appease the scaleys

dinosaurs have feathers! XD
>>
>>5649823
We might very well see a fun gimmicky one. They're announcing a kickstarter exclusive next week. An exclusive is a perfect figure to have fun with.

I would absolutely buy at least Jurassic park inspired raptors I'd that's what the exclusive was (although I don't think that would happen), but I'm just glad feathered dinos are getting represented as toys. I'm going to tell myself that the fact that the guy actually works in the business means that companies might notice, but I'm not optimistic.
>>
>>5649965
*at least 3

I'd need a whole pack.
>>
>>5649965
>>5649969
A scaled JP raptor would be an utterly new sculpt, not to mention liable for lawsuit if he scoots too close to JP design. It'll balloon the manufacturing price even more. So far, each raptors only getting one or two brand new body parts, and everything else is a reuse. I highly doubt there will be a scaled raptor. Down the line maybe if David convinces NECA that collector grade dino toys do sell.
>>
>>5649989
That's more what I was thinking.

Realistically I'm just hoping for a fun, colorful exclusive. Maybe like a macaw colored one. That would be neat,
>>
Does anyone really care about science? I just think the feathers look cool compared to the Jurassic Park stuff. At least on the raptors, they'd probably look dumb on a T-Rex.
>>
>>5649989
Beat me to it. The only thing that might convince Randy is the cash, if the KS reaches at least a couple stretch goals I can see neca pulling a papo.
>>
>>5650196
Not really, I'm fine either way, just that with scalies at least you have the kenner raptors to go back to for 1/12th scale, but not feathered raptor so it's a good welcome.

However, there wouldn't be that many variant of scaled raptors and you wouldn't get as much excuse as using real bird color palette or having raptor with double sickle claws. I'm gonna pose the feathered raptor probably next to bunch of ninjas, aliens, MGS figures, anime girls and spiderman anyway so there goes "scientific accuracy"
>>
>>5649989
>>5650399
While it would be nice to have a major company make good Dino toys, I'm kinda like "No, fuck you!" At this point.

Dino toys are relatively cheap, and unless you go after the JP license, there's no extra fees. And companies saying that Dino toys don't sell is about as rediculous as saying girls don't buy dolls.

At this point, fuck the real companies. The people who are making what we've been asking for, like this KS, deserve the money and success.
>>
>>5650450
You could get away with the raptors, but remember dinosaurs are really big. I don't particularly care about 1/40th dinosaur figures, I want big T-rex or T-rex equivalent that can swallow and crush other humanoid toys. Same deal with Triceratops or Ankylosaurus or whatever.

These guys would be akin to NECA's Deluxe figure line and it's kind of hard to Kickstart due to necessity of different sculpts for each dinos. So you do really need big company backing
>>
>>5650581
Different anon, but to make just a 1/12 Allosaurus at the mean size (~28ft long) you'd basically be making another JP Bull T-Rex in terms of overall dimensions. And at the scale of Marvel Legends it'd be around 32" long (which coincidentally is also 1/12 the length of the largest confirmed Allosaurus assuming Epanterias isn't just a really large Allosaurus).

I'd seriously be happy with a 1/12 allosaurus with Kenner raptor-level of articulation.
>>
Pledged for all three, can't wait for next year ~_~

>>5650608
Yeah actually I don't even think you need to go nuts with the "celebrity" dinosaurs like Allosaurus, T.rex or the big long neck.

There are a lot of Ceratopsians and Ankylosaurs that are reasonable in sizes. In fact most of them are very reasonable in size and most of the medium size dinosaurs are more interesting in features compared to the big celebrity ones.

For example, Amargasaurus with the sail neck is way cooler than your standard long neck and only the size of an elephant IRL. Same deal with Carnotaurus, Diabloceratops, etc. These mid tier dinosaurs all have unique features with lot's of educational values not found in their bigger counterpart and it'll be great to have a somewhat high quality articulated version of them. I don't even mind a hollow plastic figure as long as the sculpt and articulation are there

How would you like your Triceratops senpai?
I want to be able to open giant beer can
Say no more!

Joking aside though, I always wonder how easy it is to reuse mold but alter the scale. The upcoming ceratopsian line assuming this raptor line is a success might need to have various different scales, but all the ceratopsians technically have reusable body-parts. You just need to sculpt new head and readjust the scale of the body
>>
>>5650636
Uh, unless they're 3D printing everything different scales might as sell be different sculpts altogether. Tooling molds for injection molding is the most expensive part of the production process.
>>
>>5650196
Honestly? Feathered dinosaurs look more badass to me. They're more 'designed' looking. I dont care if theyre the wrong kinds of feathers, the look neat.
>>
It'd be hilariously impractical, but a 1:12 scale, fully articulated sauropod would be awesome.
>>
>>5650735
That'd be as big if not bigger than a large breed of dog, lol.

If the raptors are a success, and the ceratopsians also become a success, the logical step would be to build up re-issues and repainted/minor modified figures' profits to secure the resources to make something big and unique like a larger Dino.
>>
>>5650663

Oh come the fuck off it. There couldn't be a more pathetic attempt at pushing the feather bullshit than this.

>>
>>5650936
They're your best bet for detailed scales and JP replica for sure, but the lack of articulation kind of kills it for many anons here. Also we need a truly big dinosaurs, and Papo's stuff are not really too scale. Finally, they only do popular dinosaurs, most of them being theropods and only basic sauropods/ceratopsians. I'd be nice if some of the more obscure dinos get recognition and figure too

KS exclusive is the "same genus" as the one we have seen, which means probably just a straight up recolor. Kinda lame desu, the point of being KS exclusive is that we need something crazy to boost the KS. The double clawed raptor would've been a perfect KS exclusive.
>>
>>5650936
I'll give Papo the compliment of being well detailed.
However, unarticulated and most look like they were modeled after the dinosaur's possible shitting stance.

No, that's not true. Microraptor (tiny raptor with wings on its feet) has been confirmed to be raven black. Anchiornis the first dinosaur feather color to be studied was found to be black and white with red crest. Archaeopteryx the classic bird-reptile missing link also had dark coloration

Maybe but that's like selling a constantly battle damaged ironman. The unpainted/grey painted feathers also show up in the concept art, >>5653616 so I guess it is by design. IDK, I'm not really buying it, the coloration change from blue head to grey splotch neck to quick blue to another grey back doesn't translates well to the action figure, it looks like a lazy hasbro job of forgetting to paint certain detail and cannot be bothered with it. This is the first raptor in which I am meh. Gonna get one because it is a KS exclusive, but depending on how it looks in hand probably just gonna scalp it in the aftermarket

I'm not sure how much of a full reboot it was, more like a rewrite of the first few books to better click with the current generation of that age group. Basically replacing a lot of the pop culture references, that sort of thing iirc.

And speaking of the pop culture references when I read the whole series again five years ago, I was shocked at how much of a time capsule the books felt like.

-Velociraptor = Most famous raptor

Balaur Bondoc is unlocked.

As stretch goals are hit, the amount of money gonna exponentially increase. This is the nature of toy based KS like the Mythic Legions and Ninja KS. It's not that they're attracting new backers, as the amount of backer rarely increases, it's just manchildren backer doubling down and tripling down to get the stretch goal. Now that double clawed raptor is unlocked, we might catch up to 155k and unlock Adasaurus too

That is exactly what it was. Pretty much a 'modern' rewrite replacing all the pop culture. The covers had a 'holographic' transformation image instead of the series of morphs like the old ones. Only eight were released due to the poor sales.

She really ought to have done something aimed at the original audience of animorphs and not attempt to appeal to the same age group in this day and age. I don't want to pull the usual 'kids this days don't do books' card, I just think the kinds of book series animorphs are don't appeal to the kids of today. But now that this was a wash I doubt she would be able to do a series aimed at us again even if she really wanted to, a real shame.

For someone who wants all these raptors, this is way too fucking expensive to get in one transaction for me.

This whole thing is going to be $425 worth of raptors by the time it ends.

$115 (Original 3)
$30 (KS EX)
$280 (8 Stretch goals)

Is there going to be a way to get these after the campaign is over?
>>
>>5664821
I think there will be a public preorder open through his website. Maybe a KS backer exclusive preorder window first, just like the Mythic Legion line. But yeah this thing is skyrocketing out of control. I trust the creator and everything, but honestly I don't feel like splurging $400 on an unproven KS toy line. I want to get the raptor in hand first, and see how they're build, and how closely does the mass produced paint job matches the artist paint job.
>>
>>5664749
He answered this in the updates. You need to pledge for one raptor, then up your pledge.
>>
>>5664859

>>

>>5664859

I'm sorry, I fucked up. Remembered wrong, it was just an example given.

>So with Kickstarter, you are only allowed to pledge for one reward. Anything past that will be considered an 'add-on', even another tiers. (as stated before, I would not suggest adding-on the 'print tier' as it is limited and you could miss out). For add-on items, simply add the funds you need to your existing pledge. For example, if your pledge level is for the 'Raptor Pack' and you want the Velociraptor osmolskae, add $30 to your existing pledge (or $32 for international.) Or, once the stretch goals are unlocked *fingers crossed*, you'll simply add $35 for each figure ($37 for international.) Any amount can be added at anytime- you can adjust your pledge as much as you'd like during the campaign. Also, you won't see a button for the add-ons, so don't worry when you can't find one. And please keep in mind, no money is collected until the campaign is over and funded.

Hasbro's JW line really pissed off collectors more than they realized, and I think even David probably wasn't entirely sure this much would be pledged so soon. Right now it divides out to basically $108 per person in this campaign.
>>
Since all the stretch shit will be met, is he going to have an all in for one of each reward, just to forgo all the add on hooplah?
>>
>>5667778
Yes, he said he will have an all in with an "incentive discount"
>>
Retarded newfag to kickstarter with stupid question here.

I ordered one of the raptors before the stretch goals were met, and I'm interested in one or two of the stretch goals, but I kind of want to see a prototype first instead of a drawing to see how the colors work out on it. Do I have to put an order/pledge towards them now before the kickstarter closes in 2 weeks or since it's funded is there some sort of ordering grace period for stretch goals afterwards?
>>
>>5668184
From what David said in the comments a little further down from the top, you'll be able to add onto your original pledge after the campaign ends through the BackerKit survey.
>>
>>5668184
And also unfortunately he won't be able to do prototypes for all of them. Hopefully he'll get through a few more before the backer kit closes though.
>>
>>5668184
No, you're not gonna be able to see the prototype before putting your pledge down. I asked David and there won't even be a KS backer pre-order exclusive session like the 4H Mythic Legion line. He's gonna sell the rest of the KS overstock for the public on his site.

That's the risk of Kickstarter I guess. You're going blind trusting someone based on their "pitch." But then again, you know the kind of articulation and sculpt quality these figures gonna have. The big black box is whether David could find a decent enough factory for the paintjob (his was impeccable, but as we know rarely mass produced toy paintjob matches the promotional prototype) and the build quality of the figure (some NECA aliens had QC issues, mostly due to the joint manufacturing)

So wait, let me get this straight: say that out of the first three proposed dinos, I only want the orange Velociraptor. In light of this, I would prefer to get the stretch goal figures of Balaur and Dromeosaurus. Then, is it possible for me to just pledge for the Velociraptor for now and then later add the Balaur and Dromeosaurus through the Backerkit survey after the Kickstarter has already ended?

I was nervous because I thought that I had to pay for all three at once after the Kickstarter ends on May which would kind of suck. I know that normally they do tend to put out a survey so people can add the stretch goal figures onto their pledge but David made it almost seem as if we had to pay them all at once.

I'm just wondering because I can only pay for the latter two come the first few weeks of June so it would be better if there was a bit of a buffer time for me before I paid for the Balaur and Dromeosaurus figures.
>>
>>5652305
It's bizarre because it's one thing to believe that the world was created six thousand years ago and that the dinosaur bones and everything else above that age was planted by Satan. That's absurd, but it's at least consistent. But when you try to incorporate actual science into it, and make statements like "no really St. George fought a Baryonix", it's absurd because it's trying to acknowledge science exists while also denying everything it actually says.

It's like the difference between somebody who hates rap, and somebody who says they love rap and their favorite rapper is Shaquille O'Neal.
>>
>>5656744
Muh dick. I was on the fence on velociraptor (preferred the build) or atrociraptor (preferred the color) and now there's a velociraptor build with the color I want.

>This is an incentive add-on and is available to be added to your existing pledge level of at least $35 (those only pledging for the print level, please add shipping of $10 of US and $25 for International). After the campaign ends you'll be able to select rewards such as this, with the BackerKit survey.

I don't understand this description though. I don't see a reward on the right side of the screen for this particular raptor, so is it saying I have to make a general $35 pledge for anything first (plus $25 for my international shipping), then once this KS campaign ends I can go ahead and change my reward to this one?
>>
>>5669700
I think you'll have to pledge for SOMETHING (literally anything) but the only way to get this particular raptor is if you add it onto your existing pledge with the BackerKit survey.

So which raptor do you guys think is the best for "army build"? I want to get 3 pack of the same, and probably skip on the rest except for Balaur and the KS exclusive.

Any real dino expert/hobbyist here? Which species is the pack hunter?
>>
>>5674543
Hard to tell. There's very little evidence to go off of and the ones listed on KS are already obscure enough as it is. Sadly the closest one isn't even there which Deinonychus (since it's too big) but scientists have made similar assumptions towards Velociraptor even though there's no immediate concrete evidence that they hunt in packs (rather there's only evidence of there being a group Velociraptors traveling).
>>
>>5674543
>pack hunter
That's something I haven't read any real evidence for. Modern-day birds rarely display anything close to pack-mentality, and crocodilians will only converge onto a carcass with minimal tolerance of one another. The general consensus seems to be that pack-hunting was not a dinosaur behavior, and if anything is a behavior only in certain groups of mammals like carnivorans and cetaceans.

tsaagan or saurornitholestes? one white one
