The dog alien is probably the best they have made so far. I like the AvP figures well enough but I hate the designs and the movie.
So my GoHastings order arrived on Friday. I only now really had a chance to play with it. Jesus fucking Christ, you really don't know what you're getting into when you buy these big figures till you have them in hand, you know?

Mine's the "lips" version, and you know what? I love that. I was kinda wanting the other version at first, thinking it'd look better and alla that, but this one just really hits me right. Plus, and I don't know if anyone's brought it up...but this version has a closed inner-mouth too!
So it's different, and I like that. All my other aliens have opened mouths and all that shit, so this one actually being unique makes it feel worth it moreso. To me, anyway. I still have the old NECA 1/4th Chap, and crap is this one an improvement in every way. The paint's so much nicer, too. Really happy with this purchase.
Only cons are a slightly loose right knee joint, but that hasn't been an issue, so I'm not worried about it. And the left tube needs to be repositioned with a bit of heat perhaps, but that's a super minor nit.
So, what's the story with the Lootcrate Alien box? I don't buy into the stupid subscription boxes at all, but I might have to get just this one....Is the figure unique to the box, or will it eventually be available everywhere, or what do we know yet?

The Kenner Predators were meant to be integrated in with the movie lines, though. I mean, colors-wise they stand out, but they gave them more realistic weapons and armor and stuff so they can stand alongside the other figures and not look too out of place.
For the Blade Fighter, like the whole point is the big claw on the front, and the "missile" is like, half the vehicle.
I really don't have an answer as to why they didn't just make the claw a none-firing part, but come on. You know NECA doesn't generally do spring-loaded weapons or gimmicky weapons in their toylines, usually.
The Blade Fighter, and Horizon Brave from the PacRim lines are the only toys I can even think of that NECA gave spring loaded launchers to.

I have "Shadow of Diablo" (the blue one). For $25 I was super happy with it. It has really nice details. You can't really put it an action poses because it's so big but you don't really need to because of his size.

The novels are mostly based off of the original Dark Horse comics. I read the original novels back in the early 90s as a kid. Light, fluffy reading, I liked some of the changes they did to fit around Alien 3's story. A collection of the first 3 books came out a few months ago, I'd say that's worth getting.
I didn't like the Predator novels as much. Again, based on the DH comics, but closer to what Predator 2 was like.
The AVP novels, again based on the comics. The first AVP novel was the first book to do anything from a Predator's POV, so a lot of what became fanon for Predator culture is from the first book. It's a great read, and really what the first AVP movie should have been. Same authors as the first Alien trilogy novels, so same easy fluff reading.

I am halfway through the original AVP novel (Prey) and it's pretty good. Lots of great dumb Predator culture worldbuilding, not a whole lot of Alien so far beyond what we see in the films. The plot is, again, just a retelling of the original AVP Dark Horse books with Machiko and Broken Tusk. You also obviously aren't going to get the massive tension that you get from a Chricton or King novel but I doubt you're expecting that. It's fun and all but not very deep.
