I hesitated on the regular version and the transparent leg version and they both sold out,but when the transparent leg version came back on sale I just went for it. Never really had any statues before, but I love the look. It has its flaws, namely that they didn't nail the style of the show quite right and it takes a lot of liberties, she seems more like a cosplayer than anything. I think a lot of us are biased due to our attachment with watching GITS SAC when it first came out, either through download or on Adult Swim in the mid 2000's
But without nostalgia goggles, the mid-2000's digital anime style really hasn't aged well. Just looks really cold and generic. I'm still attached to the look, but I don't think it's the absolute best anymore. The movie look is a bit awkward with its 90's anime nose, but I don't think it's bad at all. It's held up better than most other designs.
I'm also really fond of the Arise look. I understand why it's controversial, but I think it's a great modern cyberpunk look. I think people's nostalgia for the old designs don't let them give it a fair shake.

Well see that's kind of my whole beef with SAC in general. It really feels like the writers of that show where too in love with the character so a lot of the time it just comes off as Major Wank. It's always she's the best this or super perfect that. We finally get the screen time to really flesh out the rest of section 9 and instead it's just so much more Motoko pandering. Saito had one episode and it was him literally going on about how great the Major is even in his specialization. She's a better hacker than Ishikawa and poor Borma still got nothing.
This isn't really a fault of SAC alone, the movie and manga didn't really develop the larger cast beyond the Matoko, Batou, Togusa power trio but it's a bit more understandable when you only have so much time to fill.

My personal recommendation for her figure would be that of her in the combat gear she wears in many of the scenes from the film to include the visor she wears at the climax of the movie, her rifle seen throughout the film and also for the facial expressions to be a calm or otherwise neutral face, as well as a distressed/in combat face.

The shame is, people dragging their feet is going to have the opposite effect that OP wants, that being a smaller supply of fewer figures at higher prices. If these things are going to sit for a year and a half and people are going to pitch a fit about a few bucks over retail, there is zero incentive for shops to order them. I specifically didn't order the Major or the KLK girls because I knew this would happen. You know why more KLK didn't happen? Besides the Nips' stupid never-complete-a-team mindset, they knew retailer orders would be weak after the first two went to clearance. Collectors are their own worst enemy.

Yeah, customs are the highest of the high end, and they're expensive as fuck to put together but there you see the results.
They do put them together themselves sometimes, but Famous Sculpt X makes a batch of Y character head sculpts, Famous tailor Z makes clothes, famous whatever does the paint.

I've watched countless reviews of Black Swordsman Guts and he just doesn't look like ¥12000 worth of Figma. The skin tone is weird, the shouting face looks goofy, and the cape is a straight up piece of shit. I know there's a guide to make a cloth one, but should you really have to make a DIY fix for a 12k figure? I don't think so.

I have the Band of the Hawk version.
It's alright, the joints are pretty loose though, that combined with the really heavy solid plastic cape make him really awkward to pose dynamically. He also has a strangely long neck which is pretty unsightly unless you leave the cape piece on.

Jesus christ, this is one thing I hate about this hobby, especially figmas, they will inevitably have a huge price jump after just less than a year after release and if you're not sure if you will like the figure or not you are still better of buying/pre-ordering it instead of waiting around for several months, indecisive only to watch the price jump and jump and keep jumping until its no longer feasible to buy it for nearly $70 +shipping.
Godamn and that kind of makes you buy first, question later, which still makes you waste your money in a sense.
You can't really be smart about it apart from knowing exactly what it is you want to buy.
And if you want to buy an old figma that has never seen a re-release then you're shit out of luck
As for the figma itself, its nice but I think I would have preferred the new ARISE version that came out, simply because the accessories are better and she has that skin-tight suit that looks so good. If this SAC figma was her in her 2nd Gig or grey skintight suit I would have liked it more but it wasn't. And I don't see Goodsmile making another variant of SAC Motoko ever again, so thats why I rushed to buy this one.
Still happy with her overall though. My only GITS toy ever.
