So who else forgot about this?
Mondo's Iron Giant toy they made for anniversary or whatever.
Let's open it up!
>>5591167
lets see it mate
>no ankle tilts
Shits inexcusable for the price they charge and how long it took for them to make this.
>>5591167
This is what you find after peeling open the box's wrap around flap and removing the tissue. Nice foam bound presentation.
>>5591178
And moving the giant out of the way you can see all the accessories.
>>5591175
I'll cut them some slack on this being their first-ever attempt at toy-making, but this thing is definitely $50 or more too expensive.
>>5591175
Did he even have it in the movie? He's a shoddy , clunky American robot based on old pulp designs. not a sleek anime mech who does Obari poses.
>>5591180
Very first out of the box thoughts:
Dang this this is light. Zero heft to this guy.
Not fragile though, feels very solid in hand.
>>5591184
I'd agree if the figure didn't have a pretty wide range of outward hip movement. It's got articulation that becomes useless due to the lack of an ankle pivot.
There is no excuse for a figure made in the last two years not to have ankle pivot. None.
>>5591185
Decent upper body articulation. Head has some minor up and down but due the... Unique nature of its connection it's effectively just swivel.
360 rotation at the shoulders with a 90+ degree outward ratchet.
Swivels at the biceps and forearms.
Frustrating 85 degree elbow bend. Why couldn't it be 90? Why!!?
Swivel at the waist and a satisfying as all he'll ab crunch. Forward and side to side.
>>5591206
Fingers bend at all three joints individually. Thumb has one joint and a limiting ball joint at the base. Wrist swivels and hands bend back and forth 180 degrees.
>>5591211
>>5591219
Ball jointed hips only spread this far. They can move further inward than out.
90 degree bend in the knees. Swivels below the knee.
Back and forth tilt in the ankles and a useless little toe joint.
>>5591220
Is that how much this thing was?
>>5591220
>being this autistic over a joint that isn't necessary
I bet this really rankles your booty.
>>5591230
>Is that how much this thing was?
Did you get it for free or something?
Looks boring as hell, but that's mostly due to the childish design. Ankle joints would bring this from a 5/10 to an 8/10. A jaw hinge would bring it up another notch, it would have been easy and would have made the alt head unnecessary.
Making it "realistic" ala Ashley Wood would have been cool.
Definitely not worth the price point.
>>5591264
Did I forget to mention the jaw moves?
>>5591296
Because it's my favourite part.
>>5591299
>NOPE
>>5591296
That's cool.
>>5591299
S attached with a magnet and the gun just plugs into where you ripped the other arm off.
>>5591206
Wait... The neck isn't segmented for better articulation? Nor the torso? With a layered design that completely lends itself to that? Jesus Christ, $9 gunpla have had articulated segmented body parts for plural decades.
>>5591239
Damn, it looks really screen accurate. Kind of wish I bought one now, even if it is overpriced.
Can you put the S on his chest and do a superman-style flight pose as well as pic related?
>>5591475
Dang, if you had a Fleischer style Superman figure I'd ask if you could pose the Iron Giant with him.
>>5591475
would buy if it wasn't overpriced as fuck now.
Good shit OP.
This is the oldest toy I've held onto from my childhood.
>>5591537
When was it ever not overpriced?
Could you be any more of a dumbass? Not having ankle tilts voids like half of a figures articulation.
> Ankle joints are unnecessary flair especially on a $300+ figure.
The denial is strong in this one.
I think it's a little shitty there are no ankle joints, it doesn't look good if you really focus on the feet not laying flat on the ground, but then again it's not absolutely necessary and the toy can still get poses done without issue.
>>5591804
I'd argue it is absolutely necessary for the pricetag of that figure.
>>5591822
I meant more in the sense the toy can still pose for half a damn without ankle rockers, not for the sake of the price.
>>5591804
such level headedness!
>>5591822
I sorta agree, in that for $300, it better suck your dick too, but is that really necessary? No.
>>5591825
> still pose for half a damn without ankle rockers
You really need to put a muzzle on your autism, because you really haven't shown why it's necessary.
I'm actually surprised it didn't come with a stand, considering so many other figures at this level of collector toys do.
>>5591825
Well, if you mean "can still get poses done without issue" = not moving the legs apart (horizontally) whatsoever, then sure.
Still is very inexcusable for this figure.
>reminder that arguing with Subji-kun is futile
>reminder that Subji-kun's objective views are more correct than your subjective lies and delusions
>>5591837
Ankle rockers are mainly so the pose actually looks good, not just support.
If you need support, you can always get a stand.
I don't know how much rocker play you could expect with those big round hinges in his instep. A degree either way, maybe?
>>5591206
what is the "unique nature" of its head joint?
>bloobloobloo my articulation
why should wanting a toy of this even matte? The idea behind the film is what mattered, not owning a small scale replica you have emotional attachment to via a movie
OP here, what happened to this thread while I was gone?
>>5591929
Subjectautismo saw an opportunity to troll about ankle articulation not being necessary, despite having argued the contrary in the past.
>>5591922
>why should wanting a toy of this even matte? The idea behind the film is what mattered
What in the fuck are you even talking about? This is /toy/. Someone spent 300+ on a toy that is lacking articulation. What are you even doing here?
>>5592145
Im here for toys, not childhood nostalgia driven replicas for adults.
>>5591929
people lost their shit because a toy's feet aren't perfectly parallel with the floor and hate that other people aren't as autistic as to care about that.
>>5592827
But Figuarts Kickhopper has good ankle articulation, just that the photographer can't pose for shit.
Meanwhile, you're screwed with this figure.
>having low standards for an expensive figure
>>5591929
Legacy Thunder Megazord happened
>>5592847
>everyone cares about iron giant
>>5592872
pointyourheadetc.jpg
>>5591167
I think it looks wonderful, OP. I'm sorry your thread turned out the way it did.
>>5592901
I'm sorry OP spent 300 dollary doos on an action collectible figure with no ankle tilts.
There's more to this toy than a fucking ankle pivot, or lack there-of. Its a fantastic representation of the animated version, which probably lacks ankle pivots anyway.
I may buy this, I was waiting to see the first reviews since I didn't trust Mondo due to their inexperience. Nice to see its for the most part, nice quality and well done. I do wish Mondo considers doing half-size version of their things like 3A, it'd mesh well with my other robots better.
>>5592901
>Looks wonderful
Yeah, this. It's a figure made by people who clearly love Iron Giant but have no experience yet making toys.
Be interesting to see where Mondo goes next.
>>5592925
Iron Giant can reassemble itself after being blown up. Can this toy do what such a beloved character from my favorite childhood film do the same as that?
>>5592927
they gonna make superior tmnt toys not even neca can keep up
>>5592927
Except in most aspects of toy enjoyability it seems great. Big, sturdy, just asking to be played with. Great accuracy to the character. But oh no, it lacks ankle tilts, something that have only really been a major thing in the last 10 years, guess that invalidates EVERYTHING.
My knee-jerk reaction is to say it's a weeb thing, but I know that's bullshit because there's plenty of people who collect things like Soul of Chogokin and Macross and others that don't really care about ankle tilts. To say nothing of the people who focus mainly on retro Japanese toys; where a recurring thing about why they collect those is due to tactile feeling;the weight of the diecast, the feel of the figure, etc. There's a ton of other aspects to enjoy about a toy beyond posability. Not to say its an unimportant thing, it's essential for certain figures. But not all of them.
>>5592939
why the fuck are you comparing this product to Japanese collectibles when its an American company and should be much cheaper like most American toys are with better quality and articulaiton???
>>5591917
Goddamn what is this spidey? Need some peter parker in my life.
>>5591920
The head actually softly snaps onto the light bulb for the eyes.
>>5592944
I'm saying that my feeling is that a lot of people complaining about the lack of ankle joints are people who mainly collect 1/12 Japanese lines like Figma or figuarts; which focus on articulation, and comparing this to that.
It may be an American company, but its not Hasbro or Mattel, this is a company that mainly did posters and T-shirts a year ago. this is an ambitious project and I think it turned out well.
>>5592939
>Not to say its an unimportant thing, it's essential for certain figures.
But diecast is detrimental to toys.
ankle rockers are just flair, so it's not really essential. It's akin to having side to side motion from finger articulation.
And you are right that it comes from that side of the board, even though it's not true for all of them. Theyre just part of the whole.
We'll never have a civil thread about this toy, will we? Anytime somebody gives the slightest criticism about it, some sperg jumps out of the woodwork to defend it.
>>5593045
Because this entire thread has descended into criticism over the lack of an articulation point the character is never demonstrated as having. Its just fucking sour grapes.
>>5593045
Criticism is fine.
It's when you have hyperbole with guys saying a toy is bad just because it's missing a joint, you're entering very special territory.
>>5592939
What are you, the design team?
I just complimented your overpriced plastic robot, you thin-skinned moron.
>>5592976
MP-01 Optimus Prime did it 15 years ago. You attach the bottom end of the piston to a ball joint. It's absolutely possible for this figure to have better articulation, and in places other than the ankles too. As I already said, this is Mondo's first-ever attempt at a collector's figure and they did extremely well in other regards. Think about how Hot Toys or Sideshow started and then consider where Mondo might be in five year's time when they really hit their stride.
>>5592948
Hot Toys ASM2 Spider-Man. You can get it pretty cheap at the moment on account of the film sucking and the Civil War design being the new hotness.
Shitty ankles on otherwise decent figures thread?
>>5593052
>oy m8 right pity it doesn't have ankle tilts innit?
>right-o, damn shame considering it cost 300 burgerbucks eh wot
>OMG HOW DARE YOU, I'LL PROVE THIS BASELESS CRITICISM WRONG BY WRITING A 5000 WORD ESSAY ON ENTITLEMENT IN THE TOY COLLECTING COMMUNITY
Yeah man those sour grapes are the problem.
>>5591264
>Looks boring as hell, but that's mostly due to the childish design.
>Making it "realistic" ala Ashley Wood would have been cool.
Ew. The design is fine, it doesn't need a "mature robots for mature collectors like myself" paint job(i.e. rubbing grease and dirt all over it). Its a loving homage to retro pulp style robots. I don't see how that's "childish" unless you're insecure.
>>5593078
le upvote ;^]
>>5592970
How totally fucking odd.
>>5591264
>"realistic"
Man, do you even 50's sci-fi?
>>5591167
I got one too, OP. Glad to see a fellow /toy/soldier took the plunge.
Yeah, it was really fucking expensive. I managed to get a payment plan from Sideshow, so I only paid $50 dollars at a time over the course of 6 months. That definitely helped, the cost up front would have been too steep.
Unfortunately, before this figure, your options for an Iron Giant figure were either:
A) Go fuck yourself, or
B) Eat shit.
So obviously we sort of have to take what we can get, but the figure is actually very good. The lack of ankle tilts is a huge bummer, but it doesn't even come close to ruining the figure.
It looks amazing, feels sturdy, and is very well articulated barring his ankles. The price tag blows if you can't pay in installments, yes. But I paid to FINALLY have a representation of a character that was extremely important to my youth. I had been waiting for this figure for my whole life, so the decision was easy. It may not be easy for everybody.
Are they even taking more orders? The box implies that mine is one of only 600.
>>5593090
It's how all the old Hot Toys Iron Man figures worked...
>>5593156
Did you get the deluxe edition?
Mine is one of 2155.
for 300 dollars they should have included parts to switch him fully to War Mode
>>5593182
why? retarded muh nostalgia fucks like OP would buy it anyway without those.
and im sure they'd buy the war mode pack for another 300 if given the opportunity.
>>5593164
Huh. I guess it's the obvious choice for swappable heads.
>>5593085
Name 10 "pulp robots"
>$300
better be all diecast
>>5593225
Assaultrons, mr handys, protectrons, sentry bots, eyebots, liberty prime
There, that's 6 everyone should be sorta aware of.
Pretty sweet, but now give us a twirl in combat mode.

>>5591264
>Making it "realistic" ala Ashley Wood would have been cool.
Just go buy a Popbot. Their proportions are essentially a love letter to the Iron Giant anyway.
>>5591185
>Dang this this is light. Zero heft to this guy.
The bigger ThreeA bots are surprisingly light too. It's kind of a necessity when toys get large, it creates balance issues and joint loosening/breakages if you make them heavy.
>>5593371
Those are all dirty and greasy though
>>5592558
holy kek
