I'm finding myself more excited about this line than I have been about glyos for a little while. A fantasy injection is apparently what I needed. (Except for TGB's vinyl, I was hyped for that.)

This has been a very bittersweet couple of days here at SMC HQ to be sure. We were overwhelmed and elated at the reception this new line received. Our store interfaces were also overwhelmed. We had a major communications glitch between PayPal and our web store. We unintentionally underestimated the popularity of Battle Tribes by a pretty large margin. We anticipated figures being available throughout the weekend. Never could we have expected a 7 minute sell through or the oversell that followed.
We have been issuing refunds. Some partial and some full. We did our best to try and get something to as many customers as possible. We worked non-stop all weekend to sort and pack and do what we could to make our error as right as we possibly could. The real numbers: about 25 customers received partial refunds and 8 received full refunds. Those aren't numbers that we would normally release in a forum like this. And they most certainly aren't numbers we are proud of.
Making toys is a very risky endeavor and based on the popularity and sales of our previous Glyos lines we did order conservatively for this inaugural drop. We will be upping the quantities considerably for the coming waves.
We have heard and listened. Traditionally once a color way is sold through it is gone. The demand for these is so great that the first thing we are doing is putting two of the most popular figures from this first wave back into production along with their unpainted counterparts. They will be available alongside all new color ways for wave two. More on that soon.

When the new figures arrive you will be given the first opportunity at the re-issues before they are made available in the store. Your order for those will be guaranteed. We are toy collectors too and we completely understand the frustration this situation has caused for many of you that thought they had much desired items on the way only to be disappointed. We want you to know that we are just as disappointed in this outcome as you are.
We have also concluded that our current set up for the store is not going to be able to handle the traffic or volume this line will demand. We are going to be moving to a system very similar to the one Onell uses for their drops. That work starts immediately.
As for a pre-order system. That is one that we still heavily debate. There aren't any plans to do that at the moment but it isn't entirely outside the realm of possibility for us. Part of the reason we didn't do that for this first wave is because of the lag time between the reveal and release for a pre-order model. It's easy to get excited about new pictures of coming toys. It's the waiting up to six months or more to finally get them in hand that we have never been too keen on.
It does sound ironic given that we now find ourselves in a very similar situation to one we hoped to avoid.
Know that we are working around the clock to expedite this next wave and the re-issues. Our fans and customers are extremely important to us, long timers and newcomers alike.
We love toys and we want the experience of collecting from us to be one that is exciting and enjoyable.
Bear with us as we find the solutions for these growing pains and we'll do everything in our power to make sure this kind of frustration is a one time ordeal for us all.

I was meaning real guns over SciFi weapons. Yes Banimon does offer pistol tops, but that seems like the extent of it. Just having talked to people at shows, I'm under the impression Matt wasn't a big fan of real weapons. The non-human heads look weird in muscle-flesh color. The wolf mask head is awesome as is the orc head. Umasked human is my 3rd favorite. I actually really like the orc head in flesh, it reminds me of like falmer or something. Hopefully they'll do a pale/sickly flesh color soon.

I'm not typically a fan of the he-man look and wide-stance pose, but I think it works. These definitely feel retro, but in a good way. The main body is going to be very versatile and the painted ones feel worth $15. With that quick sellout, hopefully these stay successful.

The problem is there's so many fucking sites for glyos now, and the community was never big to begin with, that everyone seems split between them. For years it was JUST October Toys with 2 simple boards and a BST. When OT announced they were shutting down it was like everyone shit their pants and tried to find a new place to go, but in reality it just scattered people more. It doesn't help that Godbeast and other creatives in the Onell corner have made literally 25 different facebook pages for every single new release item that happens. I get it, it's social media 101, you want to try to build a brand, but you're doing it all wrong. The only people who see the pages are the same people that see the other 15 pages. So we wind up with 3 major facebook groups with all the same photos posted, another 20 minor facebook pages with just one figure in each of them, the still not dead OTF(lol), the new glyos connect which looks great but can't compete with the in your faceness of facebook and the wild west actually say what you want without getting banned ness of here, oh and a fucking tumblr and shit now. It's just all too much, and for a community that used to be basically 100 people chatting and taking pics I'm not surprised that it's died and is barely hanging on thanks to 3 people who take photos and post them in all 48 places.

For reasons, OctoberToys had to shut down their forum and everything was gonna be lost. So everyone started panicking and looking for a place to migrate to. Onell themselves put up a new Glyos forum for everyone to move to. Then in the end the OctoberToys forum never did actually die? I don't think we ever got a clear clarification on why it didn't or what really happened.

It's really hard to find any of the story behind the characters too... I'm a big fan of Callgrim, but other than a few short summaries I haven't found basically any fluff for them. I know Roboforce has a comic, but other than that are there any archives of history for the toy lines?

Story goes that when the voting for series 2 was going on /toy/tards went over to the October Toys Forum and spam-voted Shirtle until he was a top runner. I have no idea if that story is legit or not. The only figure that was actually spam-voted for sure was Pugnacious in series 3.

Don't talk shit if you don't know shit. You've got like, half the facts at best. Yes, there were mass spam votes for Shirtle, but they were pretty much all from the same IP. It was the act of one overzealous idiot. And it didn't "derail OMFG," all that happened was George checked the IPs, removed the dupe votes, and business continued on as normal.
And if you meant "spam vote" not in the sense of dupe votes, but simply in the sense that /toy/ went over there to vote...well fucking duh we did. Shirtle was designed by one of our own /toy/ soldiers, so no shit we showed support. That's not against the rules or wrong in any way, and it's VERY different from the Pugnacious situation (the artist for that one solicited votes from dog communities who had no stake in the toy game at all and had no intention of ever even buying any figures).

Pugnacious definitely sucks, but let's all get back to the foundational point that Shittle ruined OMFG. Series 2 was the worst series we've seen by A LOT and the stupid figure was backed by a bunch of homos that never bought the sets. The proof is all the stupid series 2 sets still in various retailer stock and that many of those retailers were never able to go ahead with more product as they just sat on this absolute shit series.
The fan base was energized and series 1 was going good, then dickholes messed with the voting for series 2 and we got a series that people who will buy the product didn't really want. That's a recipe for disaster. Thanks /toy/ for rigging the vote for Shittle and whatever other crap got in that series...there were 3 sub-par figures that people manipulated. Shittle was just the most obvious shining example of a cool project gone WRONG!!!
