The balance this guy has is pretty fucking solid. I don't really feel like there's a lot I can't do. And the shoulders are insane. I especially love the blue joint, it's a nice touch.

Overall I think I could give this figure a 9.5/10. The hands could be a little greener, and it would have been nice to have 6 vernier effects, so that you could fill all the slots at the same time. At least 4 so we could get all 4 on the feet. The seam on the head is almost completely unnoticeable, honestly if I didn't know about it before it showed up I'm not sure when I would have realized it existed. All this for 34 USD? What a fucking deal, man. I highly recommend it.

It's only February and I'm not sure anything else can top this for my toy of the year. I wasn't sure about the rest of the ANIME line but I've been sold.

I think Sword has a good chance of being a regular release, but I'm a bit more worried about Blast, since it seems to be the least popular of the three main forms. It also has the least amount of model kits out of the three. But as long as it gets released and doesn't get stuck in prototype hell I'll be happy, regular or web exclusive.

IJ will probably be exclusive. It doesn't look like Justice sold all that well. It's like 50% off at places like Amiami.

>>

Improved sculpt or molding it seems. The panel lining looks crisper and the face looks different. Plus the face got a wash for the panel lines.

And better plastic color from the pictures. The original's plastic looks slightly translucent or something, not completely opaque on edges and corners.
>>
>>5516982
>IJ will probably be exclusive. It doesn't look like Justice sold all that well. It's like 50% off at places like Amiami.
I'd still get it, even if it was exclusive.
More so, SF is in desperate need of an updated release.

Nuu's review of the new Xi:

http://blog.livedoor.jp/hacchaka/archives/51973451.html

All that tampo detail is awesome, and I love the blue-ish tint added to the white. The body is still just bare plastic this time around, right? Can't tell for sure from Nuu's pictures. I had thought they were going to give it a matte finish this time like the other Ka Signature releases.

I sort of want God Gundam's RD but I imagine it's a bit small for a 60 dollar toy and I already have the HGUC (with a fucked up head but still).

Is he really worth the money? Maybe I'll save up and see if it's still there by the time I have the money for it since I did like Shining Gundam's RD
>>
Okay help me out bros, I have never read the crossbone manga but I really dig the gundam, problem is which robot spirit is the definitive one to have? There's like 7 variants in total.
>>
>>5521766
As someone who had to make do with the HGFC for the longest time, yes it is. It's a huge improvement unless you prefer the kit's derpified faux-Okawara lineart proportions and inaccurate head.

I can't tell you if he's worth 60 bux because I'm a moron and I pay through the nose for shit I want all the time.
>>
>>5521766
He's worth 60 bucks. Just be careful with the arm guards, they swap out for the Burning Finger and they can be loose. I lost my normal one for the left arm damn near a month after I bought the fucker and haven't been able to find it since.

Bandai Day tonight

I'm real excited for the Gouf and Lunamaria's ZAKU Warrior.
>>
>>5521955

Well I don't mind the arsenal, not really sure what it all entails as I'm not sure what's what but if I were to buy just one which one would be closest to the best in terms of accessories, articulation and scale.
>>
>>5523220
Even that's hard to say. The newer Full Action ones have a better sculpt and better articulation but overall come with less and do less than the older ones. My personal favorite's the Full Cloth, but, if you're willing to shell out a bit, the Full Action X1 Kai is probably the best overall.

I can decide whether I'm more excited for the Gouf or Lunamaria's ZAKU Warrior.

On one hand, Ramba Ral is my favorite 0079 character. On the other hand, the ZAKU looks great, and has so much potential with its Striker and Silhouette compatibility.

My vote goes to the Full Action X1 Kai as well. For me, the Crossbone is always about that cloak, and the FA's cloak is totally rad while the base figure is a big improvement sculpt-wise over the previous release. Here's one on Mandy for a not-too-terrible 6000JPY:

>>
Is the Turn-X RD any good? I have been thinking about for quite a while...

I am particularly interested in the translucent version.
>>
I am not a fan of the Destiny ZAKUs--they do look cool, I guess, but not cooler than the OG. The lack of originality is a deal breaker for me, it's not a 'bad' design but a lazy one. Curiously, I think the Slash Zaku is a good design--funny how an add-on can change one's opinion on a design (for example: 00 7 Sword > 00 raiser).

My biggest gripe against it though was that it replaced the Ginn/Cgue/Guiaz line of MS. Those were pretty neat. They evoked Zakuness [and gelgoogness] without being a slavish copy of the OG.

I am happy for those who are looking forward to the Destiny ZAKU RDs---it is always nice to get the figure you like. My only hope is that this release opens up the possibility for Seed Grunts, the real MVPs of that franchise.

Depends which "older release" you mean (there were two). The first had green hands which apparently couldn't grip its weapons properly, that was fixed for the second release which had grey hands.

The current release most definitely has the edge in scale and engineering but I'm kinda torn on the "ANIME" proportions. Go with your gut I guess.

I don't have any first-hand experience with the Combination Stages, but they seem solid enough, though they lack a ratchet joint for the main arm (which honestly, you don't reeeally need for most RDs).

I have 3 sets. I don't recommend them at full price, but they should still be on Amiami for like 800 JPY or something like that, which is a great deal. You definitely can't do as much as you would expect from their modular nature, but it's fun to be able to put together bases and platforms of varying degree. It's not terribly strong though, and you'll need to be careful about balance.

Also, note with this pic, any RD that has attaches to the stand higher than the waist is going to have height difficulties. I certainly can't extend his legs down all the way, so posing becomes slightly limited.

All in all, get at least 2 sets if they're on sale. Only having 1 isn't really worth it, and they just get better the more you have. I'd pick it up over spending the 15-20 bucks Act 5's go for on Amazon.

Pretty sure KA Signature just means they were designed by (Hajime) Katoki. I mean, I don't know this for a fact, but this is my assumption, especially since Katoki-designed gunpla are labeled "Ver. KA."

Ka Signature are RDs that have their design/production overseen by Hajime Katoki himself. There are three primary differences from regular RDs:

1.) Ka Signature are all approximately 1/144 scale, whereas regular RDs are non-scale.

2.) Ka Signature have additional paints apps and detail beyond the regular RD, with the majority of them having a matte painted finish over the entire figure (as opposed to the bare plastic of most regular RDs). Ka Signature also include a sheet of water-slide decals to really Katoki up the figure. This puts them a bit closer to being models, but they still have the great, smooth & strong articulation engineering of regular RDs.

3.) Ka Signature are always web exclusives, period.

And that's about the gist of it!

>>5529755
I'm guessing you're in the US? Anime-Island can sometimes be a pretty good site for preordering, as they have some deep preorder discounts. Their shipping costs can be steep though. BBTS is also a pretty good source for Bluefin releases (for me at least) because they don't charge me tax and they now offer SmartPost shipping which is dirt cheap.

Otherwise there's always importing from the usual suspects like HLJ, AmiAmi, HS, and Mandarake.

>I'm so confused, what's the difference between ka signature and the normal robot spirits?

Ka signature toys are designed by Hajime Katoki. Over the past few years, there have been Master Grade Gundam kits that have a "Ver.Ka" at the end of their name, which are Gundam Model kits that were designed by Hajime Katoki, so the Ka signature line is the toy equivalent of this. Katoki's design asthetic has a number of trademarks: longer legs, smaller heads, warning markings by thruster nozzles. These things change the look of a mobile suit from the original lineart of how the mobile suit appeared originally in animation.

About 10 - 15 years ago there was a similiar toy line, "Gundam Fix", which were Gundam toys design exclusively by Hajime Katoki. The Ka signature line is the modern day successor to that line.

This little guy finally came in the mail today but I'm finding that with the armor on, the articulation goes to shit in a big way.

Both sets of hands are angled downward so even if the beam rifles DID fit into the hands, the hands simply pop off. The grip on both sets of hands is also extremely loose, this isn't an issue for the shield since it mounts on the forearm but this thing can't even hold a beam saber.

The shoulders are less of an issue but the problem is still there. To facilitate the giant thruster sets, each shoulder joint is joined to the torso by a roughly 3/4' peg. To attach the thrusters, the peg is inserted thru the thruster assembly like a washer, and then goes into the torso. Problem is, with that thruster in place, the peg isn't quite deep enough into the torso, so it just falls right out.

I'd like to not have to permanently glue this thing into one configuration or the other but im not seeing many options, hence the reason I came here. Ya'll seem the most knowledgeable on this kind of thing.

(Disclaimer: This is the first time I've dealt with anything besides the MSIA figs that became real popular in the late 90's/early 2000's)

A lot of the Fix Figs with heavy armour have that issue, but you can usually get them into place and get them to stay there. Just experiment with the order the armour goes on and experiment with the pose you want it in.

Some of the Fix Figs and the Zeonography figures are outstanding but some can be frustrating if you want anything other then a statue.

Just persist with it

Looks like that's just a Tamashii Stage Act 4, that or its something ripping off the Act 4. Either way, that looks like it'd work. You're expected to use the Act 5 with RDs, but except for the heaviest ones an Act 4 should be fine.

>>5515252
I'd say I have a HUGE problem with the hips. The piece that holds on the butt skirt armor is sectioned off into two bits, they both attach and push outward a great deal. This creates to problems, one from one of the halves being different than the other and not being the right width, requiring that the inner right hip joint be bent out, and another from the sockets holding in the butt skirt armor, which pushes out the actual hip joints from | to / (topdown view), making it so that once the hips are up all of the way, the skirt armor can't go in all of the way. Aside from that, the lack of fists is a huge problem, the torso articulation is garbage and the front skirt piece gets locked inside of the side skirt pieces all of the time. It's like they reached a point where they just didn't care anymore, or something, because the thing is otherwise incredible.

And with those, I'd only give this a 6.5/10. The wing suits trump this thing engineering and articulation wise, I don't know why they keep doing the inner swivel hips but they're always problematic.
>>
>>5534748
Maybe you're just bad at posing man
>>
>>5521945
They're both pretty problematic, but yeah the HGFC is much more accurate to that lineart. The RD has a series aesthetic in some poses, but overall the only figure so far that actually has some series proportions/design accuracy is Shining, especially in the head. This is obviously only for some animation frames in the show, since he's much bulkier sometimes and much thinner. I personally think building a Shining or even a God with the same proportions as the recent Crossbone would be glorious.
>>
>>5534753
A fundamental engineering problem has nothing to do with posing. I don't even know why you brought it up, can you not read?
>>
>>5534576

Given the entire premise of Build Fighters its likely we'll never see any RDs of anything specifically from those shows.

>>5534269
I would strongly suggest you get the Tamashii Stage Act 4 or Act 5, instead. RDs nowadays are designed to be fully compatible with Tamashii Stages, which means you're able to plug the stand directly into the RD. This is a much, much better way to support a figure rather than the claw in that stand you're looking at (Tamashii Stages also include claw adapters for use with figures that don't have the plug attachment).

It's just so much easier to pose the figure with the stand directly plugged into the figure, and it's way less obtrusive than a claw.

I'm not quite sure what you mean here, do you think you could take some pictures to illustrate the issue? Where is it you're trying to get the skirt armor to go in to?

For me, the butt skirt armor are not causing any problems whatsoever. They do not make any contact with the inner right hip joint or any of the hips joints, so I'm having trouble picturing what you're explaining.

>front skirt piece gets locked inside of the side skirt pieces all of the time
Hmm, haven't had that happen. The way the front armor skirts rest on top of the side skirts, I just don't see how that would happen. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, though.
>>
>>5535123
>For me, the butt skirt armor are not causing any problems whatsoever. They do not make any contact with the inner right hip joint or any of the hips joints, so I'm having trouble picturing what you're explaining.
It isn't the actual butt skirt armor, it's the two pieces inside (grey) that they attach to that are causing both problems mentioned. When you put the hips all of the way in, via the inner hip joints, the hips on their balljoints are forced from a normal position to a / position, again, topdown. If you don't see it happening it's because you're not putting the hips all of the way in, and they're hanging down a bit. This might not bother some people but it bothers the hell out of me, especially since it not only stresses the piece a bit but also keeps the sideskirt armor from going down all of the way. The picture you posted, if it served any intent relevant to the situation, isn't performing a pose which can demonstrate anything mentioned.

>Hmm, haven't had that happen. The way the front armor skirts rest on top of the side skirts, I just don't see how that would happen. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, though.
The pivot point absolutely requires this to happen, if it isn't happening you are forcing either the front skirt piece to bend too far ahead or the side skirt piece to bend the butt pieces back, since that's where the side skirt piece is attached. They should've moved the joint for the front skirt higher up.

I'm not trying to be a butt, but I've taken it apart to see what issues I could relieve, and they're all mold issues. These are objective flaws and it's disappointing to see on a release I anticipated so highly.

Can you take some pictures and highlight on them exactly what you mean? It really sounds like you're nitpicking, man. This figure feels damn near perfect.

Definitely agree on the needing fists, though.
>>
>>5535161
I should mention any locking up happens right when the skirt hits a point near it being at a 90 degree bend upward. It actually isn't as bad as I recall, but it's still dumb that it has to pop in and out because it doesn't have the proper clearance. Either way, the hip issue was the real problem. It's not over the top horrible from a normal perspective but the fact that the flaw even exists is baffling to me. Especially since the entire setup that requires the right inner piece to bend when it's all assembled. There are so many things in this area that could've and should've been tackled differently. The inner hips could've been replaced for wing/unicorn styled hips, getting rid of extra tooling and making the figure fundamentally easier to pose, while not getting rid of any range of motion, just getting rid of options.
>>
>>5535181

>>5535175
How about you just try putting the hips in all of the way and see for yourself how the side skirt armor doesn't sit flush with the front skirt armor. Also, the tell for it being up all of the way is once the POM piece twists in towards the crotch. If it doesn't do that, it's too far down. I'm not going to waste my time taking a picture of something when illustrating it with pictures is really just as hard as explaining it. Also, yes, I'm nitpicking, but it's a relatively large issue to me. If another piece makes it so that a joint has to be bent, or for something to be at its default requires something else not to be, the figure loses huge points on my end. Especially when it was so easily avoided. The entire pelvic section is this overly complex system that could've been simplified in so many ways, specifically for the better of the figure. They've done this before, too, so I'm not really surprised, but I wish they'd go back to simpler setups when we know they've done it before.

Also, the torso articulation is abysmal, hands down one of the worst torso setups on any RD. How can this thing be perfect? It's fun, sure, but far from perfect, and certainly not a step up from past releases.
>>
>>5535212
I should summarize by mentioning, if this doesn't bother you or you can't even notice it, it shouldn't matter. It's there, but it's only an issue if you care for it, which I personally do, You both don't, which is fine, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I managed to point it out to someone else and they seemed to understand it pretty well, they asked for some clarification but they didn't seem this confused.

I took those pics before I read your posts so they definitely weren't meant to pertain to what you mentioned. And I definitely don't think you're a butt, so don't worry about that, haha. I really want to understand where you're coming from, especially if there's a danger of stressing the figure.

I think I'm kinda getting what you mean about the hip joints, and it may be simply something that's not bothering me because I can't immediately notice it, as you said. Are you saying that when the interior hip joints are completely tucked up and into the hips (so like a perfectly straight legged pose, I know the hips are on sort of a 'J' shaped hinge that allows them to pull down and out), they are not level with each other?

>not only stresses the piece a bit but also keeps the sideskirt armor from going down all of the way
Hmm, so maybe I'm not understanding you after all, haha. I have no problems with getting the sideskirts down on mine, they're flush with the butt skirt when standing at attention.

I think I am kinda understanding your point about the front skirts; you'd like more clearance
so they are not rubbing against the side skirts? I had thought you meant the front skirts were actually getting stuck or tucked under the side skirts before when you said they were getting "locked."

Also I just noticed that the two halves of the upper torso can pinch together to better allow Gundam to cross his arms in front of him, that's pretty darn cool!
>>
>>5521945
>generic Gundam head/face belonging to some RX-78 clone.

Maybe I'm just too dumb to get it.
>>
>>5535234
>they're flush with the butt skirt when standing at attention.
then you aren't putting the inner hips in all of the way, you just have them a the point where the actual hips stop a bit from the obstruction inside. Which is another reason why it's a problem.

Again, the tell is if the actual hips have to twist inward.

I couldn't tell if you were addressing it but the other problem is harder to see, it's that because of the halved pieces that go in, the one on its right side doesn't have the ability to sit flush with the rest of the piece, so it forces that inner piece to bend outward. You can see this with the bottom painted white panel not being flush with the other two pieces.
>>
>>5535212

this is an advanced form of autism
>>
>>5535262
And the front skirts do get locked underneath the sideskirts when they're out all of the way. And when I say out, I mean 90, not like the picture you posted. It's another thing where if it doesn't bother you I wouldn't mind, but I do worry about stressing mine when I have it bent out. So until I find a solution to it I've just been keeping it standing straight up.
>>
>>5527836
If you happen to have the first Xi figure, nothing has changed with the joints. They're fine overall. Ankles can be a little on the weak side but it's the Xi Gundam so it should always be flying anyhow.

Is buying the full armor version of the Unicorn mode Unicorn worth the new body and accessories over the original variant for like 1/3rd the price if I don't care about the full armor mode itself

Like I just really like the Unicorn mode

is there anything distinctively better about the body of the full armor version?
>>
>>5539647
The Full Action body, as I seem to recall it being called, is a bit larger and more posable. The sheer number of accessories the FA version comes with is nice, plus it comes with a stand for itself and its accessories. With armatures for both the Unicorn itself and two more to hold onto the huge booster tanks. Since those are just normal Tamashii Act armatures with the claw attachments at the end they're fairly versatile in what you can do with them. The technical improvements on the base figure and included stand make it a good deal, the sheer number of accessories included makes it a damn steal comparatively.
>>
>>5539647
The biggest issue is the scale (the older one being out of scale with the destroy mode). But if you don't care about that then its a good figure, nothing majorly wrong with it.

Alternatively you might want to get the Banshee Norn Unicorn mode if you just want the new sculpt without the full armor parts.
>>
>>5539647
Yes, it is worth it.

I don't have the first Unisex release but I do have the full armour release, so I cannot give a proper comparison.

The full action version is a great representation of the Unisex. The articulation is pretty neat--up to 'modern' RD standards. Once you add the full armour loadout the articulation is limited, which is expected. Nonetheless, it makes for an impressive display piece.

I am not a scalefag but the new version is in scale with the Sinanju and Unisex variants.

I think you've made the right choice anon; if you're going to spend the money, you might as well spend a little more to get the definitive version. Also, the armor parts are compatible with other Full Action RX-0s as well, so you can get lotsa mileage out of them if you ever add more RX-0s to your collection. Alternatively, if you really decide you have no need for the armor parts, you could probably sell them for a fair price pretty easily.

For me, I had thought the Full Armor loadout was pretty ridiculous and had no plans to use it, but once I got it in-hand and tried it out it was just really cool and impressive to behold. Now I've always got one RX-0 mounting the armor parts, haha.

I personally have mine in the middle of ditching the boosters, since the stand is plenty to hold up the Unicorn with the FA equipment all by its lonesome and each of the sub-arms can handle a booster just fine. Have it posed similarly to how it was when it ditched a booster mid-roll to use as a projectile in episode 6.

The equipment definitely grows on you, and the goofy encumbered/slapdash look is kind of on purpose given it was literally just them slapping on everything they could to make sure it made its (intended as one way!) trip safely and speedily.

How's the X-1 Full Cloth? I just want something definitive that would look good on the shelf but is still somewhat fun to fiddle around with. I have the MG and I hate it, it's everything I dislike about plamo. The HG also looks gross all glazed-up in jizz like that.
>>
>>5542138
X1 is great until you slap the FC parts on it, then you cant use shit. just take it off
>>
>>5542138
He's pretty fun to fiddle around with the cloak detached I guess. Only weapons he has are the Murasame Blaster and peacock smasher though.

Also note that the RD is based on Hasegawa, the manga artist's version of the design. This includes the BUFF proportions. The MG and HG are based on Katoki's design.

Personally, I love it. The FC cloak is fiddly as all hell, but it looks awesome when posed. The Murasame Blaster is also rather heavy with the effect parts in, but, again, looks awesome. Also, the I-Field effect parts for the shoulders/boxing gloves are snazzy. So, if you're ok with having to fight with the figure a bit when posing it, then go for it. It's a great looking figure, just don't be expecting a desk toy.

Also, I-Field boxing gloves.

Okay so can anyone clarify for all the f91 and crossbone stuff, are the earliest releases in a different scale than the later releases?

Because I saw they released the first three crossbones very early on, then there was a second release of each that are numbered in the line much later.

And then for f91 is the skull heart version in scale with the harrison or normal f91?

As someone who wasn't around in the beginning this gets confusing.
>>
>>5546428
The first three Crossbones have more accessories than the newer Full Action ones, but they're also smaller and much uglier looking since the sculpt is based off Hasegawa's art instead of Katoki's redesign. Pass on them.

Meanwhile the F91 has stayed constant this entire time. Both Harrison Ford's and the Skull Heart version (...which is also Harrison Ford's) are just recolors.

Just look up reviews.

BOTH the early and full action crossbone releases are based on Hasegawa's design. You can easily tell from the skirt armor and thruster design.

Skull Heart Harrison F91 has a modified waist joint.
>>

Okay cool, I'm hoping that they don't look too out of place with the newer ones like my exia does. (He's way too short)

I assume you have a collection consisting of newer stuff? Then Full Action will probably fit. Not so sure about F91.

The older releases go well with gunpla though.

Yeah most of my stuff is newer, I have the exia and turn A as probably my oldest and they definitely show it.

Bozune is a weird and ugly design, but to me that just made it all the more badass as a grunt suit.

And seeing some nameless joe in the anime doing something surprisingly heroic and skillful in the thing -- and sometimes without even dying in the process! -- was always a "fuck-yeah!" moment.

Metal Build plus the flight pack. Ahaha. Hoping for an RD down the road.

They do it well, but there is a crack for the door that lets dust in regardless. I used foam insulation stripping (for car doors/house doors), it's excellent at preventing all dust from floating in.

>>
>>5547139
Vifam is very popular in Japan. It usually winds up on best robot show lists. It won best anime of the year when it came out(back when Newtype was legit), and actually got rerun in 2006 or so which is pretty unusual for anime. The reason it has so few RDs is that it only has 4 or 5 designs that could possibly sell (with Dillfam and Mueller's robot being big ifs, I doubt Tamashii will bother with them) and RD has shifted its lineup focus to Gundam aggressively in the past couple of years(even more so than usual for Bandai).

Also, here's hoping that Bandai will be reasonable and release Sirbine either with actual accessories or under 9000 yen. I don't feel like we'll be that lucky though. I fully expect it to be the last RD I ever buy considering the line's current direction. I just really love Sirbine specifically.
>>
>>5547957

I'm a big fan of the Dunbine RDs, and was hoping for something similar with the Vifam, but man, in hand it was just a big disappointment. Weird joint designs, fragile feeling, and, well, just a mess really.
