At least the partsforming takes advantage of being extra parts and has proper joints. The hands can flay out which is something combiners have needed for a long time. The knees look like they have proper range. The arms can hold things up without flopping. It looks like the extra parts at least do something given that there are moving parts in this picture. I still think the drills, while nice, need to be a lot more massive though. If you're going to parts form you might as well make shit huge.
Still given that the dinocombiner was their last outing in combiner territory and it was a floppy piece of shit, I'm still hesitant.
Also the scale sort of hits you when you look at shit like this.

Sorry to quote several of you but I need some Quakewave advice: I have the 2nd run version from Captured Prey and at the time I got him I swapped out his clear purple hand for the solid colored one right away cause I liked it better. Well last week I was going to swap it back for something different and I noticed one of the fingers is assembled on backwards and so he can't close it down into a fist. I looked at taking it apart but it's a pin through thin translucent plastic so I think trying to disassemble it to fix it would be a bad idea.
Would it be worth trying to ask Captured Prey if they'd sell me another clear purple hand (assuming they even have any spares)? I'd even be willing to pay whatever they wanted for it but I don't know if it's been way too long at this point to ask.

It's an ok kit, not amazing but it does the job. The hip skirts hinder some movement slightly but that's my only real complaint. The new hands and head are probably the best part of the kit, but just a warning: you'll need to paint the black areas on Cyclonus's face like in the hollows of his cheeks if you want it to look right.
So yeah don't buy the whole Rear-End set just for the upgrade kit but if you're buying him anyway it's a nice bonus.

Aesthetically, it does. When it comes to MP scaled figures, I want them to all fit the same aesthetic; smoother panels, hard lines, blockier limbs, etc. Something that fits the G1 cartoon look but with a touch more modern design sensibilities. Accoustic Wave just never had that going for him. Prototype 1 looked alright but the legs turned me off but then Prototype 2 was just a busy mess of greebles. He's loaded with detaily bits and while some people are into that, it looks wrong to me in an MP scale because it makes it stand out against most of the other MP scale figures. There's a time and place for greebles and to me, the MP scale just isn't it. CHUG scale is fine for it but not MP.

CW megs is at least 40-55 bucks in the usa, 50 at TRU retail, 45 at walmart. the upgrade kit is anywhere between 48 and 60 bucks depending on where you are.
average price is 100 for both, assuming QC on both is acceptable. I literally got an apollyon with box and accessories and everything for 100, and x-transbots will replace parts through the original vendor if anything is missing.

It's definitely similar. This time shouldn't be a battle of bigger versus more stable, or stylized versus Armada. It's more integration versus combined/robot mode features.
Gravity builder looks most like a bigger badder Giant with everything integrated reasonably well but the designs are very distinct takes. Toyworld is making the most feature packed, massive, and articulate constructicons in all modes by sacrificing any integration what so ever with the combining bits.
