I wouldn't call that outdated. Bandai going with figma style simple joints is to cut cost down and maybe so it looks less noticeable.
Mafex has joints similar to SHF with more reliance on ball-socket joints. I think they work well.
Figma, revo joints...the hinge with two pegs, that's an old style jointing system, that's what "outdated" should mean. What's better is another matter.
