***READ THE GUIDE****

For those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Gunpla/Plamo Secret Santa!

Sign ups run until December 4th. I'll try to have everyone paired up by December 6th.

Like last year, I'm going to have everyone fill out a Google form so I can collect the information easily.

Also, if you have some kits in your backlog that you are willing to part with feel free to email me a list and estimated values.

***Disclaimer***
If you want to enter with stuff in your backlog, that's fine, but please be aware I may not be able to pair you with someone who wants something you have to give away. If you cannot afford to purchase a new kit in case of that, please just hold off this year.

You can toss a metal BB into the cups or bottles as an agitator. Or buy an airbrush paint mixer which is basically a mini hand held blender. It mixes paint very well.

I just got myself a MG Rick Dom for 12$ for a black friday day special at my hobby shop. This kit looks pretty old, anyone know when these were made? Thinking of keeping this one and not building it; and maybe buying another one to build. Probably retarded to do so, but I like to keep the "vintage" stuff and not build it. Is this kit kinda "rare" haven't been really able to find it at any hobby shops

Well, somebody I know suggested "why not just get a second hand airbrush", so I come to ask about an obvious concern:

Is it practical to buy a second hand airbrush? Would you end up having to buy replacement parts for it anyway? It seems like it'd be less of a hassle to just buy a brand new one.

Never gone that route, but when I was reading up before I bought mine, an article (can't remember sauce) pointed out that you sort of have to know what you're looking at to make an informed buying decision, and noobs can't really do that yet. At the very least, try to test drive the brush first.
>>
>>5306814
for the amount of plastic you get it's a great deal since it's a 1/60 size thing.

It's not really a model, but a mostly pre-built 1/60 rick dom with wiring you need to thread through most of the kit.

if you want a 1/60 rick dom it's your only real choice besides the super old original 1/60 kit.

ims in general is a bitch to make so I'm guess the resin kits will be ten times harder. Or plastic and resin kits are totally different and I'm talking out of my ass.
Here is a blog of someone making IMS Siren Neptune

http://pla-zone.proboards.com/thread/792/star-stories-siren-neptune-ims

>Upon opening the box I realized how much work this would be... Volks is supposed to be one of the bets when it comes to resin kits but I don't think they have a lot of experience with plastic. Either that or I've been really spoiled by Bandai. There are issues with this kit that will make this a very difficult build, as far as prep is concerned. In fact, building this kit will be mostly sanding, filling and flash removal.
>Here's another example of nastiness... The gates are attached to the piece in the worst possible place, in 4 places both sides of the piece. Exactly in the middle of the curved, chamfered edge. I'm beginning to think it was planned and moulded this way on purpose.

I'm not against FFS I love the story and the mech designs but I think people who are new to volk kits need to understand what they are getting into before spending 70-100 dollars on a kit.

>>

Is that from RG zeta or something?

You could try gluing it. If you want something stronger you could drill aligning holes in both broken faces and run a small metal pin through them.

Yeah that's what it's from. I just used some glue right after posting. If that doesn't work I'll run a pin

If it's the RG, beware that some parts of the frame uses PP plastic. Usual modeling cement for styrene does not work.

Inner frames have so far been almost exclusively an MG and RG thing, with IBO the gimmick is interchangeable pieces and an inner frame so its the first time we've seen then at this level on HGs and probably the only times it'll happen. However recent HG designs in general have been getting closer to inner frames so we might see them again if designs call for them, its at least standard to have some sort of pseudo inner frame nowadays.

> It did have some extra pieces in the PC sprue that I can't figure out the purpose of
>PC sprue
huehue welcome to the club, start your collection of spare polycaps. Its cheaper to include a whole universal PC sprue than to make a mold for each and every kit when most can take from said universal sprue. You'll see on the manual that the contents section will X out unused spare parts.

So I might be upgrading to an airbrush soon, which leaves me with the question of what to do with all my Vallejo acrylic paints. What's the ideal ratio of thinner to paint? I'd search for a guide now but it's like 3:30am so I'll ask now and look later.
>>
>>5309007
For Vallejo I use something just under milky consistency. It can also depend on the color. Yellow didn't take much thinning, but grey did for me.
>>
>>5309008
Good old "consistency of milk", then, thanks.

How much thinning does Vallejo Air need? Can't be much since it's pre-thinned but I'd imagine you'd need at least a drop or two.

>>5309010
Haven't tested mine yet since I only have red and white.

Just finished my HG Delta Plus yesterday, turned out pretty nice. I haven't built a transformable MS before since I'm not really interested in the wave riders at all, but I was pleasantly surprised. Articulation is still at least okay. I didn't care for how fiddly the shield is and how the aerospikes on the back of the legs don't really stick securely in place in MS mode, they're just restricted by the parts around them. That just autism on my part, though.

Today has been primarily working on the HG Gundam Barbatos. Really neat so far, about halfway done and articulation seems really good. The thing's really damn detailed for how few parts it actually uses, and the inner frame is quite neat. I am having some small issues cutting the parts away from the sprue too closely, not sure if the plastic is a little tougher/slipperier or my cutters are just getting dull.

I'll post pics when both are finished.

He only does it for MGs, I only recently noticed. He often goes over 100 but I haven't seen it go past 110, let alone all the way to 120

Also Barbie Toes starts out with the sorta shield plate on its arm, then after it uses the schwalbe graze claw and the show hasn't technically shown it in its final form where it just has both arms match and the iconic shoulders. Probably next episode since the mafia fixed up the barbatos with no budget limits

How long should I wait to apply another coat of Future on a loose joint. I put a thick-ass coat of Future 25 hours ago on this really loose hinge joint (moved side-to-side, flopped around under its own weight) and it still feels sort of tacky. What do you mean by "series"? The three SD Gundam spinoffs that originated in the late 80s are Sengokuden, Knight Gundam and G-force.

If you mean "model kit series", sangokuden is part of the BB Senshi line.
>>
>>5310927
Mobile Suit SD Gundam, Superior Defender Gundam Force, and SD Gundam Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors. Probably should have said animated series. My bad desu.

I'm asking what the lead suits of those are and what kits represent them the best. I can't find much information on anything related to Captain Gundam, Ryubi has about five trillion different iterations, and I'm still not sure what the lead suit is in the 80s series.
>>
>>5310852
I got some of those big Ikea wood cabinets meant for DVDs and the like, glass doors, mirror insets that come with glass shelves, and the push-to-toggle lights you find in the last section before the warehouse. You can get wood doors and skip the insets for the bottom row if you get a three-high, then use the bottom drawers for storing spare parts and painting supplies, while the one-high is just the right height to stick a TV and consoles on.
>>
>>5310938
The 80s animated SD Gundam was a bunch of gag shorts

In the late 80s, they made 3 spin-offs,
>Sengokuden = Japanese warring states
>Knight Gundam (Medieval theme)
>G-force (Futuristic theme)
These spin-offs had manga, anime, toys and model kits based on them. They were widely popular for a while but died down by the late 90s.

Superior Defender Gundam Force was an attempt to revitalize the SD Gundam spinoffs and heavily referenced the 3 themes above. Captain Gundam is extracted directly from G-force.

Eventually they hit gold in the late 2000s with Sangokuden which was immensely popular for a period just like the 3 old themes.

To answer your question, just go for the BB Legend line. It's "legend" for a reason.
>>

2.0 Shiki has great articulation over the original, kind of similar to the scale of the 2.0 zaku compared to the 1.0. It's literally a trade off of articulation vs aesthetics; if you're not going to be posing it constantly and don't give a damn about gimmicks (posable fingers/detailing) then just buy the original.

Also, the original has those seam lines and lacks some of the details on the legs. It should be no question.

I passed on preorders for Super Fumina but now a site I know has her and I know they have limited stock, she's a bit expensive but not nearly as bad.

I know her face is horrible and so are the stickers but I'm a sucker for this kind of shit, so for those who have her would you recommend her even at a slight markup or are the issues too many?

Can you mod? If yes then get it and go nuts. If not then can you live with an oob face thats mediocre at best?

I don't think I have the skills to do a competent face mod, I've got F.A.G faces which would be easier to mod in but they're are probably one bit too small, can anyone confirm?

I'll probably go for it if the face will be the most of my worries though
