3rd party Dragon/Aircraft carrier triple changer headmaster when?
>>
is devastatin a good game seeing how its made by a third party and therefore prommothing third parrty transformers? :)
>>
>>5305998
I wish more Third Party companies would do their own original designs like
that Fansproject Heartmaster and the Glacialbots.
>>
>>5306101
Then they are not third party toys but just toy robots.
>>
Im really surprised no one has jumped on making a treansforming can for UM and upcoming Powermaster Prime. Seems like an obvious opening.

I'm looking forward to some fun third party to go along with next year's headmaster. Lot of opportunity there, too.

Anything worthwhile on the black Friday sales? I saw the war gauntlet for $25 and Quantron for $250. I already have the Deluxe insecticon pack so that's out.

Is Quantron worth it at the $250 price? My biggest gripe is how thin he looks when using the bow and the stupid fiddly nature of Maketoy's shit. One seems like it can be solved as Shadow Fisher has a $10 joint to hold the extra cannon piece in place on the back when forming the bow.
>>
>>5306752
The real sticking point for me is how narrow he is when combined. It's a huge peeve of mine when that happens.
>>
How's Before and After's six sigma, and is he worth $60?
>>
>>5306859
Honestly, I like him for the individual members first and the combined form second. I mean, I think I do. I'll see how that goes when I get my hands on 'em.
>>
>>5306134
>war gauntlet
whats te toy next to grimlock?
>>
>>5306752
My problem with them is how much liberty they take with their designs.
Maketoys Blades barely looks like blades. Though I have to say the rotor transformation is genius, it forms a sword AND the sheath for the sword. cool
>>
>>5306911
One of TransFormMission's Stunticons, no names for them yet. Based on some older IDW designs but Masterpiece sized.

>>
Anyone have pics or videos to show the addon kit for upgrading the look for CW Menasor?
>>
>>5306921
They did a good job with Devs and Computron. Giving them an updated look while keeping the feel of the original characters intact. With their Defensor set they've just go off the rails. Nothing about him says defensor.
>>
>>5306921
That actually looks badass. Shame the rotor blades look awful in vehicle mode as a result of the sword thing.
>>
>>5308923
Agreed with that, they've taken a lot of artistic liberty with this set. While the main bots don't look a whole lot like G1 at all, Defensor is pretty unmistakably Defensor.

Ironically I think the individual bots look a lot better than the combined mode.

>>
>>5310525
it looks like they tried to go hallway between the toon and the toy on that shade of green. It doesn't really work. I'm surprised they did it that way, since they love putting out two versions of their toys with toon/toy colors.

I'm considering picking up the perfect effect superion head, does anyone know how it stores in silverbolt? I can't seem to find a picture of silverbolt with the new head with it tucked away.

>worst turd party
Impossible toys. So shit they bombed out of the business. Xovergen for those still in the business even though they are probably kill too.

>Fansproject
Both. FP got the ball rolling and was top dog for a long while. They too were improving bit by bit. Any one of their modern releases is still light years beyond Defender. Despite fun releases, actual donutsteels, and generally doing whatever they wanted like the Glacialbots, FP started to get outclassed by the time Revolver came out. Their Dinobots have been particularly sloppy in design oversights and engineering. Madlaw's was a design that seemed like it should never have got out the concept phase. The Dinoking/Monstructor bits aren't really impressive for the same reason as the FP Dinobots. Plus they're jewing hard on the shells. Function X is the only thing left that shows some bit of initiative. Maketoys seems to be picking up the FP slack, but mostly because they share the same designer or two.

pic unrelated
>>
>>5311511
Why is Xovergen so bad? I remember hearing back during the spring that their God Ginrai Armor was so tight on one Anon's Trailerforce Armor that it wouldn't come back off?
>>
>>5311511
Well god help me because I just ordered their diaclone swoop. Aside from the legs it seems pretty nice.
>>
>>5307052
I'm not pretentious enough to act like I know what is the better one but it's definitely not something that look zoids with bad proportions, QC issues, and is basically baby first TF design. Quakewave IS definitely better that FR though.
>>
>>5310525
>I like Classics and not MP
It's okay.
>>
>>5311511
I got a certain level of respect for Impossible Toys. They did some really cool stuff.
>>
>>5311529
From the reviews, the Godbomber armor is all partsforming between modes, I mean beyond the amount usually expected for an armor based combination, and each mode has unused parts. The MP10 armor mode looks just so ugly as well. It feels like they just really half assed it.
>>
Man I'm starting to feel the urge to get back into 3rd party shit and its iron factory's fault.

How's Manacle and Turrets? Those would be the one's i'd go for first.

>>
>>5312933
Kapowtoys in the UK. Really hope I get before the 25th.
>>
>>5312304
Nice, solid figures. They're really made to pair with Metroplex as one becomes a box and the other just gets torn in half to form small guns. The other Ironfactory releases are a bit more interesting for stand-alones.
>>
>>5313122
Agreed. I'd say get their Magnus.

Sometimes I just fiddle with those two by themselves though. Turret is probably one of my favorite 3p figures, just in terms of fun. And Manacle can wield both halves of him.
>>
>>5313193
I have them and I'm not a huge fan. Too many hallow parts.

The rest of the line is nice though. I have sound blaster and he's very solid.

Ah yes, I can see that being a problem. Given that you're a vampire and all.
>>
>>5313122
Questioning anon here, yeah I actually have Metroplex and the play value in connection with him is one of the reasons Im interested, and in getting more legion-y sized dudes in general.

I dont think I want the magnus just because Im saving for the leader class version. Like he's a character I specifically want a big toy of.

It's accurate where it can be, like the tail lights on the legs and the detailing on the backpack, but it does it's own thing like making the head proportionally bigger and having the dino legs/arms stick out. There was no way to get the tail proportional since it's huge and just fucking expands out of nowhere in the game. They did a good job just making a damn great looking Rex mode that isn't the G1 style. The Robot mode is as spot on as it can be with the larger weapons really completing the look.

>>5314051
Turmoil has much more giganigger proportions in the comic but the mold works well enough for an alternate take. I don't really care for the accuracy as the figure itself looks awesome and half the reason I want it is because the alt mode leans heavily on Metal Slug. This one at least doesn't look like a purple duck head on treads. Shame they removed the toe guns from the other mold, but the changed cannon and turret detailing works.
>>
>>5314718
>>5314741

I fear this may confuse some people. Commotus/Turmoil comes with an alternate right hand to mirror his left, but nothing else.

Seems most likely that the brown is the colorist interpreting black for the page so the reader can see him, I doubt that brown is the intention at all. Fuck. I should have put some shit on my xmas list and not my credit card. I still have jumped on the wild Legends train but maybe I can start making my list there.

I feel you mang, I have $600 in preorders (BY FAR the most I've ever had), $160 of which became in stock today. I can afford it no problem but it's pretty jarring to actually quantify.

Fuuuuck, next week? I got Rear End and I was hoping Anachus would at least be at the end of the month. Glad it goes to my credit card and not my bank account but still.

While we're talking about these DJD dudes, will Tarn get another work-over before he's released? The most recent render they showed off still looks kinda wonky.

Abdomen is fine, but it looks tiny because the chest is wide.

It's the elbows.

I think it's the insignia antennae.

You mean the chest is wider than the reference and that's what makes it look off? I can kinda see that.

Same for the head actually.

The real travesty is what they did to the alt mode. It's just kind of blagh. The front treads have to fake the shoulder look and the ones in the back hide behind the legs.

Also the cannons aren't supposed to be the same length. In the art one the bottom one is larger.

As much as I like the metal slug shoe horn I would still like an accurate take.

Yeah the altmode bothers me too but I dont know how they could do it better and its so far away from the actual comic look I almost hate to begin criticizing it.

i honestly would have killed years ago for a transforming metal slug tank. i would love to be a stickler for accuracy too. but seeing as i have no connection with this character he is to me kick ass transforming black decepticon SV-001

I just used a shitty 50 cent paint brush. You brush the paint into the lines, doesn't need to be neat, then use a paper towel and rubbing alcohol the wipe away the excess. Easy peasy.

What are some 3P guys with really cool/fun/complex transformations, but at the same, not so engineered they are a living hell, like FP Diesel?
>>
>>5320560
FP Smart Robin
>>
>>5320569
seconded also his repaint is cool too if you like obscure ass japanese characters
>>
>>5320560

Stay away from FP or Maketoys with the exception of Function X and Manga Mech. Smart Robin is probably one of the more creative transformations out there.

The badcube insecticons are fun and clean with their transformation gimmicks in contrast with their Warpath.

UT Buzzing makes a lean and clean Blurr. Troll's arms transforming out of his monster arms which allows violence hand mode is a nice touch.

Planet X Slag does a good job moving everything around without feeling too fiddly once you know where the tail does.

MMC's new Commotus and Spartan do some cool tread to leg transforming. Sphinx's wheel feet and torso compacting is is pretty cool too.
>>
>>5320592
Why should I avoid most of FP and Maketoys? Are they generally too complex? Stuff like the spring-locks or whatever on Giant's components seem pretty cool and might make for unique transformations.
>>
>>5316417
>>5316476

It doesn't have a name per se. It's an oversized KO of Evasion mode Prime done by the Chinese company WeiJiang.

It'll probably show up on SirToys, and there's already Taobao agents taking preorders.

http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-3rd-party-discussion/1037840-ko-aoe-evasion-optimus-prime.html
>>
>>5320726

Transformation tolerances, incredibly exact lineups to tab, and over engineering. Do you want to spend a half hour to get from mode to mode and hurt your fingers doing so? Not all their releases are like that. Steel Core and Revolver were a nice change of pace.
>>
>>5320344

That's what I thought too. Arent 3P toys expensive because of assembly and complexity? this toy got none of that

Usually a kit that small would run you 10 bucks or less. Maybe the screws drive up the price?

Im a sucker though, so I bought one...
>>
>>5323637
They're expensive because of their small niche runs, relative complexity over the average official toys in the same size class, plus some jewing to make a profit.
>>
>>5323816
>relative complexity over the average official toys in the same size class
Really? Legends class Skrapnell has a pretty damn clever transformation, as well as Cosmos. This is Grimlock we're talking about, his Transformation is pretty straightforward.

And really, why does it matter? It's not like they have assembly costs to think about.

Annnnd he's here. I haven't messed with the cyclonus kit yet, but I'm liking the main event so far.

>>5323637
My first instinct is to compare it to stuff like gundams where you can get an MG kit that's twice the size and complexity for 2/3rds of the price, and then it's 100% a shit deal. Compare it to smaller garage kit type stuff with tiny runs though, and it's actually not bad. I still think it's too much, but I'm not exactly hurting for a legends grimlock.

I'd be worried about the joints being regular plastic off the sprues though, especially since their tiny shockwave had problems with joints shearing off. There's a reason bandai's been using polycaps for decades.

Yeah, he's definitely not as much of a home run as their last attempt in the series, the plastic feels noticeably thinner too. It's nowhere near "oh god something's gonna break" level though, and they really nailed the likeness, so I'm satisfied.
